I wanted to add a comment about this semi final race. She ran this time with 0 wind and she eased
up around 5 meters out. She could have easily been the first Non GDR Female Sprinter to go sub 11.
In the finals she aslo tripped coming out of the blocks and ran a 11.10 into a -0.7 wind so she did
everything today on her own power. Incredible sprinter and she is so talented not to mention pretty.
Congrats again to this fast rising star from Germany!

I have always thought you should never ease up if running that fast, she can see the timer as she gets near the finish....she may never get that close again...I hope she does break 11 but if you have the chance take it, especially when you know you are faster than everyone else in the final...just my 2cents worth

I agree with you. I've also seen a few freak injuries by sprinters easing up believe it or not or actually trying to slow down as fast as they can like in the indoor 60 meters spints. Sometimes weird things happen. Gina Luckenkemper would have easily went sub 11. It has happened to Julian Reus as far as missing a sub 10 due to easing up. He has run a 10.01 and 10.03 and he would already be in the sub 10 club if not for easing up a little too early! Lucky for him he didn't injure himself. If your gonna ease up do it after the finish line and do it very gradually. Just my thoughts.

On another positive note, Reus won the double sprint title in Germany today. He won the 100 meter gold at the nat'l champs yesterday running 10.10 and today followed it up with a new p.b. in the 200 meters of 20.29 to win by a landslide. It shows good speed endurance and hopefully is a sign that he is close to going sub 10 soon! The guy has won the national championship in the 100 meters for 5 years straight in Germany. That is no easy task! Congrats to Julian Reus on another fine performance.

Despite finishing 2nd today in London, England, Dafne Schippers ran another sub 11. She ran a superb time of 10.97! I feel
she will be a serious threat to medal over both sprints at the world champs. I 'm hoping for at least one
or two more gold medals. That would be incredible.

Great to see Ramil Guliyev join the sub 10/sub20 club at last.

Also great to see Sally Pearson with a clear 2nd to Kendra Harrison in London. 12.48 is her best since London 2012 and since her wrist snapping fall.

In each case the measure of a champion is the ability to bounce back.

Schippers is finding peak form right on schedule. She and the new coach seemed to know what they were doing

great to see Sally Pearson come back from the hamstring injury that caused her to wipe out and break her wrist. I believe over the 6-7 hurdles she surged even with Harrison then eased off slightly.....more in the tank I think.

Sally likes to win so unless she didn't want to strain at the finish I believe she was flat out with a little more work to do on the last part of her race in the next 3 weeks. Looking good though as several Americans tied up.
When she is fully confident her body is working right Sally isn't fazed by competition pressure.
(unlike our "number one" female sprinter who ties up as early as on the aeroplane going over to a big meet lol)

Is Jack Hale going to run anymore this summer? What about the other Aussie Male Sprinters? Thanks in advance.

Emile Erasmus left Germany today to compete in Joensuu Finland. Running on Wednesday. Only 2 events left to try and qualify for London. Athletics South Africa qualifying standard is 10.03 for the 100m!

Breen doth shine.....:)

That's going to be tough. But if he can get ideal conditions who knows? All the best to Emile

I think our worst performing female sprinter of all time when faced with international pressure. 11.74 in Rio struck her from any future expectations... and then this insult ......
"Canberra sprinter Melissa Breen's Olympic Games campaign ended in less than 12 seconds, but the 25-year-old was beaming with pride after being eliminated from the 100 metre event.
Breen missed the start and finished seventh in her heat on Saturday and 55th overall, crossing the line at 11.74 seconds at the Olympic stadium."
She should have been disappointed and really angry at herself - that's what winning people do.

I agree, she should have been pissed off, embarrassed, disgusted and apologetic to Australia and her Aussie fans, not be prideful for running like a 15 y old. Maybe if she loses her funding and has to work to live and train on the side like many athletes do she will see she has it good and should put her best foot forwards not backwards. Maybe a sports psychologist would help as well....

It cold be she likes to be a big fish in a little pond?

She's lost funding several times and then sneaks in a late, poor quality qualifier running up north in the Australian tropics during winter.
And she has access to sports psychologists but seemingly to no avail. And half decent runs she has are at 2000 feet, home track and support team there, usually lovely warm weather and a tailwind. Her lovey, dovey (non track savvy) followers just go by the mantra (she is the Australian record holder".

Interestingly, Sally Pearson has run 11.14 (2007) and 11.16 (2015) in years where she has concentrated on sprints a bit more. She could take that record should she have a year of no hurdling and just compete as often as possible on the international stage around Europe.

I just wanted to let Emile Erasmus and his father not that we are pulling for him in his next few races. Even though going sub 10.03 is tough we here know that Emile is capable of acheiving this mark. Just tell him to give it all he has and to be confident like usual. You have to believe before you acheive. It would be so exciting it he does it but either way we here at the castefootball forum are all huge fans. Good luck!

Another thing about Breen. The year she did the 11.11 and beat Pearson it was in January 2015, well before Pearson peaked after heavy hurdles training. From that meet on she never beat Pearson again (and that was her BEST EVER year)

I just saw on All-Athletics profile that Emile is rated in the world top 50 for 2017. No matter what happens here-on that is a very impressive thing to be able to tell grandkids in years to come.

Hope she can step it up for the next meet. One thing's for certain, she's not Aboriginal.

RATISLAVA. Slovak Sprint recorder Ján Volko would like to present himself in the finals of the upcoming European Championships up to 23 years old in athletics in Bydgoszcz, Poland (13-16 July).

The holder of the Slovak records in running at 100 and 200 meters will start on both sprinter tracks. Participation in the ME achieved one of the goals of this year's season.

Six runs for three days

"Everyone is expecting a medal, but it is essential that I get to the final, I want to go to the ME with humility and modesty," Volko said on Monday's briefing in Bratislava.

The Slovak recorder was preparing the championship for the past week in Šamorín. "We've been through the focus, I've had great conditions, and now it's up to me to get a good result," he added.

"

I do not feel like a leader. I do not allow myself waiting for something. That does not help me. "

Ján Volko, Slovak Sprint

According to Nadi Bend, the team will decide on the different circumstances, but especially the weather: "The goal of the final is true, everything open to us, one hundred, one for psychics, two for a physical burden, Six runs is not easy. "

"Janko is healthy, we have solved all the minor diseases, and preparations have been made as planned, times show that we are doing well if not better than we should be," Bend continued.

The last day before leaving is waiting for the Volga regeneration. "I believe we have even relaxed, we have four days to regenerate," she added.
Weather can not be settled

In Poland, lower temperatures are predicted during the ME, which is good for racers. "We do not know the weather in this season," said the Slovakian coach. But the volley is enjoying the colder wind.

"It's easier to get warmer in this weather, maybe better, it's not gonna be warm, it's gonna suit me, but I do not want to go for the weather."

The bulls are expected to run in both disciplines, then the semifinal and eventual finals. He is a leader among athletes, but he does not tolerate pressure. "I do not feel like a leader, I do not allow myself to wait for something, it does not help me."

The coach has been ticking ahead of the races to find out what time it would take to win the title of European Champion. "Again, I must say that the weather will be of great importance, with the ideal conditions, 22 degrees and zero winds, 10.24 for the hundreds, 20.47 for the 20.47."
He wishes to cleanse Totha
