Pretty good first round so far, with Adam Scott in the lead at -6. Zach Johnson and Paul Lawrie are tied for 2nd right now at -5. Tiger is currently tied for 4th at -3, like Carolina said in the other thread.

I'm really hoping Phil will be in contention and win this time.

My observations thus far:

Phil Mickelson has to be the greatest golfer who has played so badly, so often, in big tournaments. He has made some horrendous shots. I really don't see him ever winning a British Open.

Rory McElroy looked like the next phenom after last year's U.S. Open. Since then, he has been pretty putrid. Another should be rival to the wondrous Woods mysteriously seems unable to play now.

Speaking of should be rivals, what happened to Padric Harrington? Two British Opens in a row, two majors in a row, and then....nothing for like four years. Again, another lucky break for the magical One.

Woods is beginning to look not only roided up, but actually chubby. He's huge now. I guess the jock sniffers will concentrate on his tremendous, superhuman strength now, even when he doesn't win. He's right in the hunt. Let's keep our fingers crossed that he disappoints the "journalists" again.

Speaking of chubby, are there any golfers who are in shape now? Adam Scott looks pretty fit, but most of them seem to have a gut, or to look just soft (and like they spent a typical, work-free wealthy upbringing). I'd like to see a few more lean physiques like Gary Player or Greg Norman.

It's amazing that the top players in the world- Lee Westwood and Luke Donald, continue to bomb in majors. Regardless, if someone can keep Woods from winning, we will all be celebrating.

Seems like it'll be another tourney of Eldrick versus an un-heralded field going into the weekend. A recent trend. Mickelson absolutely bombed out today. Rory McIlroy had a lousy +5 and Bubba Watson a +3. Thankfully, American Brandt Snedeker shot a 6 under 64 to put him in the clubhouse lead at -10. That 2 day score tied an Open record. Adam Scott just birdied the 18th to finish up at -9.

I hope the "anointed one" finishes his day with a few boogies.

As Freethinker pointed out, Brandt Snedeker sure played some great golf today with a 6 under 64 round, matching Adam Scott's round yesterday.

Speaking of good rounds, Americans Matt Kuchar and Jason Dufner have both played well today.

Paul Lawrie has stayed in contention today as well.

Woods has looked average to me so far this round. I agree, it would be nice if he could finish up with some bogeys today.

It sucks that Mickelson bombed out yet again, will he ever get back to playing good golf in a major.

I agree about McElroy, I know that this week, ESPN showed a graphic showing his majors before his US Open win, and he was playing some great golf, but his last four majors have been shaky, to say the least.

Mickelson is 42, an age when few golfers win majors. Jack Nicklaus only won one after the age of 40, his win for the ages at The Masters in 1986 when he was 46.

Harrington mysteriously changed his swing after winning three majors in two years, and suffered for it. But he was in contention at both The Masters and U.S. Open this year and is close to being back to where he was.

I don't see a dominant golfer emerging again for a long time, if ever. Nicklaus and Watson were the last White golfers to do so, and their eras were a long time ago. When Palmer, Nicklaus and Player played, there were only a dozen or so legitimate contenders for the majors. Now it's wide open -- nine different winners of the last nine majors, all their first win in a major. Just as in professional team sports, there is just too much depth and parity on the PGA tour. You had a 17 year old amateur and a player ranked in the 400's contending for the U.S. Open a few weeks ago. Zach Johnson is the only golfer on the PGA Tour under the age of 40 to have as many as nine wins. There's just too many good players who can win any given week for one or two players to be gobbling up a big portion of the wins. Woods was a freak, and very likely loaded up with roids and who knows what else. To expect a White version of Woods is to be disappointed.

Of late the other Northern Ireland major winner Graeme McDowell actually looks more consistent.

Once again, the table is magically set for the media's favorite person of all time. He is hitting every fairway, and as usual his balls are totally sand repellent. Only two players in front of him, neither with a major win. Woods can still beat himself, of course, but it's highly unlikely that anyone else is going to beat him.

I can't really remember what it was like to be rooting for a particular player to win a major tournament. For so long, all I've done is root against the magic one. Can't we have a major without him being in the hunt? Can't he miss a cut once in a while, like Mickelson did?

Please let someone-any other player-win.

Don't be so negative! No one that has won the last 9 majors had won before so it's fine that non-winners are ahead of him. And Woods was in a tremendous career slump until a few weeks ago. He's a good golfer, he's going to have his competitive moments but he is not going to be the dominent force he was a few years back. Besides it's good that he's in competition, makes him losing all the better. I like to see the Tiger-worshippers get their hearts broken, it's better then him missing a cut and not having anyone to root against. Look on the bright side once in a while.

Yeah, I agree a little with bigunreal, but jaxvid makes a good point. I would add that I would like to see one player win more consistently, especially the Majors to take away the worshipping of Tigger. It has been sickening from the start today. So much that we had to watch the second hole tee shot of Tigger and missed Adam Scott's first hole introduction. Only Tigger would get this much attention. Paul Azinger has already called Tigger "MAGICAL" today.

Snedeker appears to be collapsing. Shocker. Now it's only Scott ahead of the magic one. If Woods is in the final group tomorrow, he wins. Period. No way can any mere mortal stand up to the presence of such superior genes in a major tournament. Well, unless it's a little asian guy. So amend that- no white guy can.

I literally can't watch a major when Woods is at or near the top. The gay fawning is almost incomprehensible. Every one of these middle aged men- most of them quite accomplished golfers themselves- should be totally embarassed.

Even on the rare occasions the great one misses the fairway, or even rarer occasions when his sand repellent doesn't work, and he lands in a bunker, he just makes another miraculous shot, shots that, the jock sniffers constantly remind us, "no one else can make." I'd like to hope for a triple bogey down the stretch here, but he's the only golfer out there who simply cannot have that happen to him. Part of being so magical, I guess.

Jaxvid, I'm sorry, but it's hard to be optimistic.

McDowell is looking good and Scott has a four stroke lead on Tiger. No need to be pessimistic at this point.

I wonder if the American players sporting a ribbon to express sympathy with the Batman murder victims did the same after Omar Thornton murdered all those white workers in Connecticut a few years a go. I very much doubt it.

Adam Scott's career has been very similar to Sergio Garcia's -- both were very heralded at a young age and were expected to win lots of tournaments and multiple majors, but both have been disappointments and are now mostly afterthoughts at majors. Scott's biggest win was The Players' Championship back in 2004 (also the most prestigious tournament Garcia has won). But he's played better since hiring Woods' former caddy Stevie Williams. I'd much rather see Adam in the lead going to the final round than Snedeker.

McDowell is very tough mentally, and Els and Zach Johnson are also. Els winning would be almost as popular as Darren Clarke's unexpected triumph last year. Should be a fun final round to watch, unless you know who comes from behind to win.

Keep up your eternal pessimism, bigunreal, because it seems to be working. The moment you admit Woods is done winning, he'll probably win a major. So, until then, I'd like for you to continue predicting that he'll win every single major for the next 3-4 years.

LMAO, that's like the best post I have ever seen in this site, good sense of humor man ;)

Not into golf much, I consider it 99,9% a white dominated sport and I don't worry much cause Zulu tribe finally produced a good champ in 120-130 years of white dominance, but I enjoy the fact that many white players add their name in the glorious lists of Slam winners, instead of a couple dominant players who should have won pretty much everything; something that seems to be the desire of most white fans in here from what I see.
Our kind has produced the most dominant player of all time, Jack Nicklaous and if I am not mistaken 99% of the greatest Slam winners are other white players as well, so it doesn't hurt much if more and more white players win major titles and earn victories against media's darling Woods.

Again according to my logic :

A) Many whites winning Slams against especially the "magical" Negro who is promoted as Jesus of the sport = In my head means that white pool of talent is so vast that can produce a different white champ each time. It takes a great army filled with MANY great soldiers to win a war, a single great warrior never won a war, maybe a battle. I hope you get my point :)

B) One or two dominant players is cool, but it's not special in my eyes, I know the "American logic" requires one great champ ala Larry Bird or Michael Phelps or Lance Armstrong, but I personally think that's where America lose it all; What would you want an 80% white dominated NBA with the MVP award going half the times to a Negro and half times to a white player or a 70% black NBA and the MVP award going to a white player in 70% of the cases? I mean if you prefer the second, why would you complain for the NFL? That's the case it seems, the MVP player, highest paid players etc seem to be white QB's in most cases, right?

Back to the topic though, the Aussie should win, he looks good so far, I hope he wins!

Just saw some more of the magic one's incredible, nearly incomprehensible luck. He hit a poor shot on 3, and we were treated to him pleading with the ball to do what he wanted it to. The same plea mere mortal golfers make on a regular basis. The difference is that Woods' pleas are usually answered, as this one was.

I hope Scott can hang on. It's highly unlikely any other golfer will be making a move. They're too busy watching the magnificent one do his thing. So far, Woods is getting his normal lucky bounces.

Two bogeys in the first 3 holes for Scott. Not exactly looking confident. Most every other player near the top has dropped a shot as well, except...you know who.

Woods will have to beat himself.

I wish this web site had been around at the beginning of Woods' career. Then I could have made gloomy predictions of his inevitable victories in every major.

In that case, how many would he have won? Love that triple bogey, baby!

Wood's didn't have any of his luck or magical shots on the 6th hole today. He had a pretty bad lie in the bunker, and then took 2 shots to get out, and ended up making triple to drop him back to 3 under.

With Snedeker potentially hitting his ball out of bounds, it looks like Scott will have to really imploded to lose this tournament.

It's not over yet. Woods makes another "miracle" shot. Scott keeps dropping shots and so does everyone else. The announcers are angry he wasn't penalized when his ball just moved. Sure is hard to tell who they're rooting for....

Right bigunreal, when Tigger made triple bogey on 6 you could almost see the deflation on the announcers and you could certainly hear it in their voices. It's as if someone has died in their presence!

I feel terrible for Adam Scott, watching him collapse like that on the last 4 holes. But congrats to Ernie Els for winning his 4th major!! He played a good round today. Ernie Els also has won majors in 3 different decades too. A remarkable accomplishment.

Woods fell apart like the proverbial 2 dollar Taiwanese watch today(circa 82').....:biggrin1: Nice to see Els grab a major in the twilight of his prime on the tour. It looked like he would never win another as he has had many near misses since his last win about a decade ago. Scott seemed to pull the kind of losses that journeymen have when leading on the last day of a major....

I deliberately didn't check any news today so that I could watch ABC's three hour truncated showing of the final round from noon to 3 Pacific time without knowing who won. Am I glad I did! Amazing finish, great to see Ernie Els move forward as everyone else moved back.

Makes the snubbing of Ernie at this year's Masters that much more unconscionable.

And it's also nice to see the corporate media's and bigunreal's sure winner lose yet again!

Els is truly one of the good-guys on the Tour, so this was a great victory for him, despite what happened to Adam Scott. I hope he manages to bounce back and finally win a major.

Bigunreal is now 3-for-3, which means Woods is 0-3. We will need him (bigunreal) to be in top form Aug. 9-12 for the PGA champoinship for the last major of 2012.

Another year going by without Woods winning a major is of course a great thing. It means 4 less chances for him to catch Nicklaus, being a year older and getting close to that all-important 40th birthday. The added bonus here is the pure agony and torture his jock-sniffers in the media have to deal with each time he fails at a major.

I was watching the Tiger Channel's post-tournament coverage and Rich Lerner was asking Brandel Chamblee and David Feherty the obligatory question of whether Woods would catch and surpass Jack Nicklaus in the majors. Lerner pointed out that Woods is still ahead of Nicklaus's pace despite his current long drought. Chamblee said he didn't think Woods would catch Jack "for a number of reasons," one of them being that Woods' body at 36 isn't in nearly the same condition Jack's was at that age as the injury-prone Woods has had numerous operations and procedures (and he's likely been taking PEDs for a long time, though Chamblee of course didn't say that).

Chamblee is one of the very few announcers or commentators who isn't an automatic Woods worshipper. ABC does very few golf tournaments these days, but Paul Azinger was nauseating to listen to this week, as Tiger-centric as Nick Faldo on CBS and Johnny Miller on NBC.

As far as tribesman Lerner, he's very articulate and knowledgeable about golf, but he appears to be the lead orchestrator of Golf Channel's virtual non-stop round-the-clock Woods hype.
