A nice leader board heading into the final round. A win by Darren Clarke would be hugely popular. I'm pulling for Phil Mickelson, who has an outside shot to win his first British Open, but I'll also be pulling for Dustin Johnson, who is in the final group for the third time in the last six majors. His path up to this point has been a lot like Rory McIlroy's in the majors -- close but no cigar. Would be nice to seem him break through, but luck and Mother Nature will likely play a big role in this tournament's final round.

Darren Clarke's shot making was outstanding given the course and the strong winds and off and on rain. Mickelson made a run on the front nine but couldn't sustain it. There were a lot of Americans on the first page of the leader board, quite an upset actually, but the string of majors won by non-Americans continues. Three different Northern Irishmen have won since Phil won the 2010 Masters. :eek:hwell:

I was also glad that Darren Clarke didn't cry. It was a very emotional win, and the ABC announcers were gleefully anticipating a bucket full of tears, figuring for sure that viewers would get to witness another weeping White man, but Clarke, who lost his wife to cancer five years ago, kept his composure, much like Mickelson did after his emotional Masters win last year when his wife who was battling cancer was on the 18th hole waiting for him.

Perhaps the most poignant moment of the 2011 Open Championship was the somewhat eerie footage (from 1999, I believe) of a 9-year old Rory McIlroy being interviewed on an Irish talk show after winning the “Under 10 World Golf Championship.†He even proved his phenomenal talent by chipping golf balls into the circular opening of a washing machine. An interviewer inquired to the young McIlroy: “So who is your favorite Irish golfer?†Rory quickly responded: “Darren Clarke.â€

After his victory, when asked if his late wife, Heather (who passed away from breast cancer in 2006) would be “proud of him for winning the Claret Jugâ€â€¦he responded that although winning the Open Championship was wonderful, she’d be much more pleased with the development of the couples’ two sons. In all interviews I’ve seen, Clarke seems to have everything in proper perspective. He’s a family-man who isn’t egotistical concerning his golfing talents, discourteous towards the fans, or obnoxious on the course. Like Phil Mickelson (and so many other top white golfers), Darren Clarke is the perfect antithesis of Eldrick “Tiger†Woods.

Another white victory…

Mickelson and Johnson, congratulatory and classy in defeat…

Golf is infinitely more noble without America’s “black†billionaire-corporate-villain spitting, cursing, smashing/throwing clubs, passing gas, screaming at fans, and engaging in degenerate-level cheating, womanizing, excessive drinking, high-stakes gambling, jet-setting, illegal drug abuse, prostitutes, call girls, hookers, porn stars, steroids, perverted voicemails/texts/emails, orgies, a series of impregnations/abortions, etc.
