Don't forget Gaffney. He could supplement Toby. Actually I hope he does, considering Toby could take a beating.

Im excited to see Andrew Luck, he is supposedly the real deal at QB. With the offense opening up more Toby will get chances to break more long runs.

Stanford now starts a black LT. Lorig's DE spot is now occupied by another white, Chase Thomas.

Stanford can still win the Pac-10. If they win out, they have a solid chance of winning the conference.

Stanford needs to beat Oregon and USC head to head. Oregon and USC face each other this week so one has to lose. The winner of that game has to lose one more match-up.

Oregon could lose to the following after playing USC this week:
Week 9 at Stanford: Stanford has to win this game (knock on wood):
Week 10 is Arizona State- I sense a win
Week 11 is at Arizona- possible loss
Week 12 is Oregon State- possible loss here

Here are the remaining games for USC after playing Oregon this week:
Week 9 is at Arizona State- probable win, but the away crowd factors in
Week 10 is Stanford- Stanford has to win (should I double knock on wood)
Week 11 is UCLA- probable win
Week 12 is Arizona- possible loss

Since Arizona beat Stanford head to head b/c of way too many gambles by coach Harbaugh- they must lose twice for Stanford to win the Pac-10. Here are the remaining games for Arizona:
Game 8 is Washington State- doubt they'll lose this one
Game 9 at California- Arizona could lose here
Game 10 Oregon- we don't know who to root for in this game yet
Game 11 at Arizona State- maybe they'll get upset by the fellow AZ school
Week 12 at USC- probable loss- we obviously want USC to win if they have already lost to Oregon and Stanford the next two weeks.

The problem is that Oregon, USC and Arizona all play each other on the remaining schedule- so these teams can't lose to each other head to head. I think our best shot for a Stanford Pac-10 title, is for Oregon to beat USC and then lose to Stanford and Oregon State- which is a pretty good team. We then need Arizona to lose two of these three games: at California, at home vs. Oregon and at USC.

Tackling Toby Gerhart is key for Trojans

Going up against an Oregon Ducks team that was arguably one of the
hottest in college football, the Stanford Cardinal did not even bat an
eye.

With their 51-42 victory over the Ducks, the Cardinal not
only threw their hat into the ring, they also broke the Pac-10 race
wide open for practically everyone.

One of the big keys, if not the biggest, to the Cardinal's success this season has been the play of Toby Gerhart, who seems to put up bigger numbers week in and week out.

See
where this is going? Gerhart makes big plays and delivers the big
performances, and his size (6-foot-1, 237 pounds) is just big in
general.

For a more in-depth look at Gerhart'sseason to date check out the slideshow at the bottom of the page.

Gerhart's 223 yards rushing against Oregon is his second 200 yard game of the season, the other coming against Washington.

If
Southern California wants to avoid its third loss on the season, it
will be imperative to bring down Stanford's main weapon and star
tailback.

In two of Stanford's three losses on the season, Gerhart was unable to crack the century mark.

The Cardinal's other loss, coming at the hands of the Arizona Wildcats, was more a byproduct of UofA quarterback Nick Foles'
breakout performance than it was Gerhart's inability to produce, as he
finished that game with 123 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns.

At his Tuesday press conference, Trojans' head coach Pete Carroll addressed the Gerhart's importance to the Cardinal offense and team.

"They
have a real obvious core of their offense in Toby Gerhart, just a
hammer back there running the football, said Carroll. "They've built
their style around his physical nature, and it's working very well for
them."Â￾

Gerhart's physical style is something the Southern
California defense really has not seen this season. While they've gone
up against some of the Pac-10's best backs in Jacquizz Rodgers, LaMichael James and Jahvid Best, they have yet to play against a brutal runner such as Gerhart.

When asked to compare Gerhart to someone he has seen or coached, Pete Carroll had an interesting response:

"He
would be like playing the Bus (Jerome Bettis) the old days at
Pittsburgh where you just knew you had a big war daddy coming back
there at you down after down after down. There is a certain style to
his running and all that and certain things you want to do to try to
defend against that. I don't think there are many guys that had that
kind of presence offhand other than going all the way back to him."Â￾

Simply
put, Gerhart likes to hit and he's going to come out of the gates
running when Saturday afternoon rolls around at the Coliseum. Luckily
for the Trojans' the have a defense full of heavy hitters too.

"I mean, this is a real battler,"Â￾ said Carroll of Gerhart. "He really fights you."Â￾

One
thing is for sure, the stage has been set for this Pac-10 battle. In
front of 90,000 large packing the Coliseum, does it get much better?http://www.examiner.com/x-5385-USC-Trojans-Examiner~y2009m11d11-Tackling-Toby-Gerhart-is-key-for-Trojans

While USC's passing game is struggling under its first-year
quarterback, the Cardinal's offense is rolling behind its freshman
signal-caller.

Andrew Luck
completed 12 of 20 passes for 251 yards and two touchdowns against the
Ducks, and has thrown for 2,076 yards with 11 TDs to just three
interceptions on the season.

He is joined in the backfield by running back Toby Gerhart, who leads the Pac-10 in both rushing yards (1,217) and rushing touchdowns (16).

Gerhart
is coming off an outstanding performance, running for a school-record
223 yards and three scores against Oregon. The senior has seven
100-yard games on the season, and finished with 101 yards and a
touchdown on 23 carries against USC last season.

"They're playing
lights-out," Carroll said of Stanford. "I don't know how we're going to
slow them down. I don't know, but we'll figure that out."

Carroll
is hoping his team can take advantage of finishing the regular season
with three straight home games after playing just two of their previous
eight at the Coliseum. USC has won 12 consecutive home games since the
loss to Stanford in 2007.http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/preview?gameId=293180030

TD Stanford! 35-21 early in the 4th! Coby Fleener!

Taylor Mays is getting exposed by the White Receivers of Stanford. I so wish I could watch this game, but listening to it is beautiful!

Pick 6 for Stanford! That has to seal the game!

Andrew Luck outran the USC defense on 2 long runs as well. The Coliseum is emptying out with 11 minutes to go.

I LOVE STANFORD!!! They kicked SC's butt!!!
Biggest home loss EVER for SC!!! most points EVER scored against the Trojans!
Toby Gerhart has 3 TDs, Gaffney has 1 TD, they have white receivers, white DBs, white OL, etc.
This is what a football team should look like!

I just love how Pepodokis or whoever he is kept saying throughout the game that USC's affletes would bring them back. I guess that didn't exactly work out for the Trojans. If USC was so much more athletic than Stanford, why is USC getting killed?

Nice to see Gaffney getting some running time. Toby has another phenomenal performance!

Unreal game by Stanford! They simply crushed USC and Pete "Pukeface" Carroll. Definitely the best game I've ever listened to! Toby should be mentioned more for the Heisman now, and he moves up to be Stanford's #2 career rusher. Now, they need to whip Cal and Notre Dame and they should be in the Rose Bowl!

man the cardinal just went up 55 to 21. Stanford has a great team. the announcer is a douchebag (Petros Papadakis). he made it a point early on to say something to the effect of, "i'm sorry but Alan Bradford is much faster than Toby Gerhart." what a clown this guy is. Toby is a perfect mix of power and speed. yeah its more power than speed, but he still has good speed. this isn't Ron Dayne, Toby is a supreme athlete. after this game, any "expert" that doesnt have Toby going in the first round of the draft is a moron.

178 yrds and 3 touchdown against SC. any black rb that put up those numbers would be a lock for the first round. lets hope Toby gets the same treatment.

Harbaugh's decision to go for 2 points after they went up 48-21 was curious. Looked like he was trying to rub it in. Will be interesting to find out his explanation.
