Within the very narrow constraints of the NFL's Caste System, the Packers have changed demographically rather dramatically in recent years. In 2005, the last year Mike Sherman was coaching the team, Green Bay had 4 white starters and just 12 whites on the roster. The Pack begins 2008 with 10 white starters and 22 white players overall, seven more than last season.

The big story in football of course has been QB Brett Favre's retirement, unretirement and then bittersweet departure for New York. In his place steps Aaron Rodgers, the former first round draft pick who's had three seasons to watch and learn and who looks capable of continuing the Packers' rebuilding process which quickly blossomed last year under Mike McCarthy.

Rodgers is backed up by two rookies, Brian Brohm and Matt Flynn. It will be a big surprise if Brohm isn't a big star in the league at some point. Flynn was the quarterback of LSU's national championship team in 2007.

Green Bay still uses the fullback heavily, but only as a blocker and occasional receiver. John Kuhn and Korey Hall handle those duties, though both can also run; Kuhn was a record setting back for Division II Shippensburg.

For the second straight season the Packers start an all-white offensive line. The group, which boasts a rookie this year, really came together as the '07 season went on and provided Favre with superb protection in the playoffs.

Wisconsin grad Mark Tauscher starts at RT, rookie Josh Sitton at RG, Scott Wells in his fifth season out of Tennessee is the center, Jason Spitz is the LG, and Chad Clifton, another Tennessee Vol, is the starter at LT.

Backups are Daryn Colledge, Allen Barbre, Tony Moll, and Breno Giacomini.

All three of the tight ends are black, but the Packers stunned the football world in April by taking the only two white wide receivers to be picked in the 2008 NFL Draft, Jordy Nelson and Brett Swain.

Swain went in the final round and is currently on Green Bay's practice squad. Nelson was selected early in the second round after a dominating senior season at Kansas State during which he made 122 receptions for 1,606 yards and 11 TDs. Nelson is 6-3 and has what the Caste media likes to call "deceptive speed," whatever that is. The truth is that there have been dozens of white receivers with Nelson's size and talent who never had the opportunity to play at a I-A program much less get a fair shot in the NFL, so it's nice to see the rare white receiver fall through the cracks. But wide receiver is a position that whites would dominate in the NFL, much like they are beginning to take over tight end, if recruited after high school like blacks are and then allowed to develop in college and the pros.

On defense, LE Aaron Kampman finally made it to the Pro Bowl as a starter following the 2007 season. Now in his seventh season, Kampman was forced to go through the NFL's ridiculous racial apprenticeship program, "learning" as a backup for two seasons, and then, after becoming a starter and being one of the best tacklers in the league at his position, still was routinely maligned as the "overachieving" weak link on the defense. It wasn't until Kampman became a top sack artist to go along with his tremendous pursuit and tackling abilities that he was finally recognized as the big-time star he is.

A. J. Hawk is the weakside linebacker. The '06 first round pick from Ohio State has had two solid seasons in the NFL and is going to continue to get better.

Strongside LB Brady Poppinga is one of those quietly consistent and productive players who comes under excessive scrutiny for not being "flashy" enough, e.g., not black enough. But while he'll never be enshrined in Canton, Poppinga does his job very efficiently.

Brandon Chillar, who is mixed white and Indian (from India), is a backup outside linebacker.

NUMBER OF WHITE STARTERS: 10

APPROXIMATE NUMBER OF WHITE PLAYERS ON 53 MAN ROSTER: 22

GRADE: C

Everyone has to copy Dallas from the Big Three days and put blocking pads on the FB. Take an eligible receiver and ball carrier and let the defense discount him before the ball is snapped. I like McCarthy and for a Sniffer he is slightly out of the box but he is wasting time thinking he can redux the extra lineman on the field that Dallas used. Don't get me going on what the Rams do to Leonard.

Maybe McCarthy heard me, the white FBs got three balls thrown their way, one for a TD (better not do that too much the affletes might get upset and there goes locker room chemistry). Next they might hand off the ball for a run play in a one back set or if the HB goes in motion, Naahhh never happen the secret Caste Commitee has rules you know.

I just want the Pack to start 11 whites at some point in the season. Green Bay and New England are the only white spots in the NFL this year.

Last nights Colts-Titans game was pathetic with only 5 white starters on either side.

From the looks of Colts O-line from the few minutes I seen is that they need to lighten the complexion of theirs. Not to say the Pack's white line is playing as well as they could, I think Clifton's best days might be behind him plus he has a bum leg.

Came close, both sides of the line need better production before the Pack steps up into the elite caliber team ratings. Kuhn made a great run for a first down, but the sniffers in the media probably will overlook it because he didn't take his tight hips to the house, but instead did what the play called for a high percentage play to move the chains. Rogers didn't freeze the safety on a pass to the inside so it came up an int in the endzone, would J. Russel be critiqued by the sniffers for throwing this ball? And Brady Poppinga needs to be turned upfield, he absoulutely nailed the QB almost causing an int. save for the greasy fingered DBs who blew a sure one.

Gonna have to call out the FB Hall, I think his technical skills in blocking are up to snuff, but he is not earholing the "afflete" LBs to take their head out of the game such as "why this cracka messin wit me, I be all pro."I could be wrong it is hard to tell with network coverage it bouncing between the focus on the ball and the sniffers (though this crew is above average)reiterating the conventional wisdom, and not on the small battles being played out.

Chad Clifton is not 100% with his leg and Jared ate him up, the network ran a replay of one of his pressures and it was Allen's feet after he beat Clifton's hands that got him to Rogers, it was a thing of beauty. Of course the Pack kept resorting to deep dropback passes which gave the Vikes target practice, but as Taush said after the game "we stunk." I hate the Vikes with a passion, but I must give Ben Leber credit he put a clean hit on Rogers that will affect his grandchildren it was so hard.

Snow Patrol alert! This sunday the Packers will have Hawk at mlb and Chillar and Poppinga on the outside. Along with Kampman that will be 4 whites starting likely for the rest of the year.

I'm no expert but I was hoping for Poppinga inside in the old fashioned middle line backer role maybe two down run stuffer, and put Chillar in his strong side spot. I'm still not sold on either Hawk or Poppinga in space, Hawk has a bad groin (those don't heal in two weeks time) and Poppinga is better when he gets going down hill not sideways. (it is why Chillar is there)

yeah, if only they threw more to Jordy and had at least one white TE... fullbacks get occasional carry or a catch but nothing to write home about.

Packers sign Spencer Havner a linebacker to active roster, bringing to four the number of white linebackers on squad. According to yahoo sports the Bears were interested in signing him, so Packers signed him from their practice squad to preempt the Bears.Edited by: referendum

Still a 7 cylinder team in an 8 cylinder league. No phase of their game is up to par.

Aaron Rodgers has been better than anyone hoped. The Packers were supposed to be rebuilding but had a big season last year. They came back to earth in '08 but have a solid foundation. Hopefully it's back to the playoffs in '09.

Whats sucks for Rodgers is that no matter how much better he performs than Favre, be it in passing yards, TD's, etc, if the Packers don't win, he'll never be considered as good as Fav-ruh.

Of course, Rodgers has to win to be considered as good as Favre. That's part of the game. This is especially true of a young white QB some might say.

The Packer's defense and Ryan Grant have been the weak links this year. The Pack could have certainly used Justin Beaver. Aaron Kampman is a star, but they need to find other guys on the D-line to help him!

Thank god its over, the season that sucked. Kampman needs to find his game, one on one all day and not a sniff of the QB.

Kampman was a disappointment pretty much all season.

Aaron Rodgers threw for over 4,000 yds,had a QB rating in the low 90's, and had 28 TD'sto only 13 INT's. Far better stats than anyone would have predicted. Too bad the -D - went backwards this year.

In defense of Aaron Kampman he was the only threat to pass rush ALL season. KGB was cut. Cullen Jenkins got hurt. Backup Mike MOntgomerry did not do anything and neither DT was much of sack specialist.

Nick Barnett getting hurt really hurt them late in the season. AJ Hawk is pretty good, although not a star, on the outside, but wasn't up to par in the middle. Aaron Kampman underperformed for what he's capable of, but didn't have much help in the pass rush and got lots of double teams. The Pack CBs are good, but weren't Pro-bowl deserving IMO. The safeties aren't very good and the DTs suck.

Ryan Grant was nothing special all season. He had moments, but the Pack could have used a Beaver/ Woodhead like change of pace. Brandon Jackson played pretty well and deserved more carries over Grant.

Bottom Line: the Packers needed some more players available to help them.

Mike McCarthy fired most of his defensive coaches today and also the strength coach. Sounds like a good idea as the Packers defense was not as good as the talent it has. If they improve their defense and learn how to win close games instead of blowing leads, they can be in the playoffs next season.

I also noted that two of the five fired coaches (40 percent) are from that amazingly giftedrace which comprises only 12 percent of the population yet is wildly over-represented in football when it comes to players, coaches and broadcasters.
