Last I heard Nick Oppenneer; who is white had one of the starting conerback postitions. He didn't get much playing time last year, but did well this spring.

this is right, patriot.

Nick Oppenneer, a junior, has won the starting spot at right cornerback.

also, sophomore Scott Zick is in the mix to get a lot of playing time, as well. he is currently listed as second string, but he's been getting a lot of playing time with the starting defense due to injuries.

with Kubiak and Pagnotta set to start at the safety spots, and Jake Galusha and Zach Donaldson as their back-ups (with Galusha expected to play in the nickel), it is entirely possible for the Rams to have five white defensive backs on the game at one time this fall.

M: Is Kyle Bell going to get more than 40 carries, like he had in last year's game?

SF: I'll tell you what, if he keeps ripping off 6-7-yard runs, he'll get 40, 50 carries if he's hot. Ever since we did it, and I wasn't the coordinator, but I saw it first-hand when we had Marshall Faulk at San Diego State. He was so talented, it was hard to take him out of the game. I remember one year, we opened up and played SC and he ran for 100 or 200 yards, and all together had three or four of those games, and you're thinking, 'Now he can't keep carrying 28-32 times a game for the whole season,' and he always ended up getting nicked. I don't think that was his durability, I think that was how we used him. So, you just can't wear a guy out. It's a physical position that's getting more physical every year in football. I mean, the safeties are getting bigger, the corners are getting bigger, the running backs are bigger, so we just got to be smart on how we use Kyle and Gartrell, and we're lucky we have depth even behind those two that we feel pretty good about.

M: Is Nick Oppenneer going to be ready?

SF: Yes, I believe so.

Jason Smith who was going to be both our kicker and our punter broke his arm. It's not a career or season-ending injury, but he will be out for an undetermined length of time. I'm fairly certain he will be back this year, which will be good for him, he's a senior. In the meantime, Ben DeLine, who we recruited to come in and be a kicker, will be our kicker, and Anthony Hartz will be the punter right now.

Here is a recap of the Buffaloes 38-17 win. Looks like Mosure came up big!!!

Recap: Colorado State vs. Colorado

By Sports Network
The Sports Network

Cody Hawkins threw a touchdown and ran for two more as the Colorado Buffaloes opened their 2008 season with a 38-17 victory over the in-state rival Colorado State Rams at Invesco Field in Denver.

Hawkins threw for 214 yards on 20-of-29 passes while also tossing a pick for Colorado (1-0), which ended last season with a loss to Alabama in the Independence Bowl. Darrell Scott added 54 yards on the ground with a touchdown, and Scotty McKnight hauled in five passes for 67 yards and a TD.

Billy Farris completed 27-of-37 passes for 187 yards with a touchdown and two picks for Colorado State (0-1), which couldn't pick up a win in Steve Fairchild's coaching debut with the Rams. Gartrell Johnson carried the ball 12 times for 95 yards in the loss.

After a scoreless opening quarter, Hawkins found an open McKnight on a post route down the middle of the field for a 35-yard touchdown less than a minute into the second.

With the rain coming down hard, CSU was forced to punt on its next possession, but a high snap over the punter's head gave Colorado the ball at the five-yard line, and Hawkins punched in a one-yard score two plays later.

A Hawkins interception midway through the second led to the Rams' first score, as Farris found Dion Morton in the end zone for a 21-yard TD with under seven minutes to play in the first half.

Then the fireworks started as CSU's squib-quick on the ensuing kickoff was returned for a 93-yard score by Josh Smith. John Mosure answered right back on a 90-yard kickoff return of his own to make it a 21-14 game heading into the locker room.

Aided by yet another solid kickoff return from Smith, Hawkins scored on another one-yard plunge on the eighth play from scrimmage out of the break.

The Rams' Ben Deline cut into the 28-14 lead with a 26-yard field goal with just over two minutes to go in to the third quarter, but Colorado held the ball for the next seven-plus minutes and Eric Goodman kicked a 23-yard field goal to push the lead back to 14.

Scott sealed the game with a one-yard rush to pay dirt with just over two minutes left in the game.

Yeah its really sad, Kyle didn't look explosive at all yesterday... I remember one particular play where he got a pass in the flat and when the defender came to tackle him, Kyle didn't try to elude him, he didn't try to lower the shoulder, he just got tackled, he doesn't look like the same player he once did.

i agree with Gi-15 completely, in this case. as much as i hate to say it, Bell looked awful. he was thoroughly out-played by johnson.

Bell looked sluggish, tentative, and did not run hard. not a bright day for one of my favorite players.

i found a pic of him running, though.

Don't hope your buying in to the caste bull sh't. He was better last year that is why he started. Kyle will get better as the season goes on he reminds me of Franco Harris as far as his abilty to get better during the season. On the bright side Mosure is a sophmore and he will be the starter next year by himself this kid has speed to burn.

Just so you know, CSU cancelled their spring game because of the threat of 7" of snow.
