A man coverage team trying to play the zone, they had players out of place the whole night especially the first half. When there are questions about the defensive secondary for the Pack it pays to look to Johnny Gray's column at the Packer Report. And no pressure on Romo, its like the coach was hiding his blitz formations from Dallas in prep for a playoff rematch, I hope.

Two great white running backs on a single team, Paul Hornung and Jim Taylor. Both played in an integrated NFL. How did the white running back become "extinct" except by deliberate design?

Oh, ok. Thanks for the explanation. I thought something had happened to Brian Leonard. After I saw your post this morning, I spent about 30 minutes surfing the web trying to find out what happened. Turns out it was just a technical error.

If two white running backs are on the same team these days, it's probably so one of them will not get any playing time or be relegated to the practice squad, just the way it happens when you have two white wide receivers.

Anyone see the story recently that Brett Favre was interested in coming back with another team? It got big play on Yahoo sports, then next I saw he denied it and it went away. What's with that?

I had asked my two grandfathers; and people their age would all tell you how athletic and talented Jim Taylor was. Taylor was very close behind Jim Brown as the best RB in the league in those days. In fact Jim Taylor out rushed legend Jim Brown one year. I don't think anyone from the World War II generation would have ever speculated the NFL becoming as coal black as it is at the WR, RB, CB and Safety positions.

It is ingrained racism in our society (ie. segregating certain NFL positions) that has created the caste system; and it's racist against blacks and whites.

Jim Taylor is, hands down, the most underrated RB in NFL history. As Tough J notes, he was a close second to Jimmy Brown during his heyday, but he is never even mentioned in any discussion of the game's all-time great running backs. This is obviously because he's white, but also because mentioning how great he was might make a few drunk white fans question why there aren't any other running backs that look like him carrying the ball in the NFL now.

What is really sad to consider is that, if Taylor were coming out of college now, he would be lucky to be drafted. He certainly wouldn't be given a chance to carry the ball for any team, and his only chance to play would be to bulk up and become a blocking back, as so many other great white runners have had to do. As for Hornung, he would have even less of a chance in today's NFL, because he didn't have Taylor's size. He would have had to make it as a quarterback (his college position at Notre Dame), which in all liklihood he couldn't have done, and thus probably have been one of those white players who are cut multiple times and are lucky to spend time on the practice squad. There is no way in today's NFL that any coach would have the audacity to switch a white QB like Hornung to running back.

No question about it. Not only have many white runners who would be very good or even average at it in the NFL been denied any opportunity whatsoever for the past 30 years with no end in sight, but whites who would now be in the Hall of Fame alongside Jim Taylor have also been totally shut out.
