Roll on Tide!

There is nothing like the crowds in the SEC. What a joy to go to these games and sit in the stands. I am from Iowa and Iowa Hawkeye games are a good time, but in the south we are talking hand and hand with religion.

I went to LSU-Alabama two years ago and it was magical. If you ever wonder why we want our own to man the field go to one of these games once in your lifetime.

We walked in to a sea of red and white. The cheerleaders directing each side of the stadium with a conductors precision. "Roll"Other side " Tide" , "Roll" "Tide"The recruits where being walked along the sidelines as 90k spectators yelled in unison with a sea of 70k red and white pom-poms. At this point the hair is standing on the back of my neck.

Then the Purple and Gold of LSU come on to the field to a chorus of (but not obnoxious) boos. (Like everyone in the stadium were saying in a low voice "heeeecckk them boys are gonna get a beating today")

Then here comes the tide with the understated red and white. It is senior day and the crowd has a heartfelt love for the players.

Just when I think it is over , a song starts and the crowd erupts in song and this leads into a movie like opening on the big screen with a voice booming out that is hard to place at first for a guy from Iowa. It Bear Bryant talking about what is means to be a winner. The crowd quiets to hear the words of the legend that is Bear Bryant. Holy sh*t I have goosebumps the size of pimples.

This is it , I thought, this is the mecca of college football and I begin to relax, albeit excitedly, that the game will start soon.

Just then,

Well, hear for yourself

I guess every big SEC school claims to have the best atmosphere. I've heard a lot about being at Alabama, but as a former Ole Miss fan, I have to say, along with many other SEC fans, that it is hard to top going to a game in Oxford. As for Alabama, well: Rammer jammer, yellow hammer...

Give me a break. You want an atmousphere try going to an Ohio St game in the Shoe'. Everybody and I mean everybody is wearing scarlet & gray singing Hang on Slooopy and wearing their Buckeye necklaces singing the songs the band plays. Script-Ohio before every game is the best pregame tradition in the nation. Then outside the Shoe' during the game(and I mean for every game even vs. MAC teams) there are parking lots closed off with huge projection screens showing the game and everyone is just crammmed but still having a great time watching the Bucks!

I'm sure it's a great time, but 4 white starters on the whole team? You are telling me that is not racism? If not, why do the all-white teams routinely beat the all-black teams in high school football?

Ipray to God for a football game (college or pro) matching the best whites against the best blacks. Then we'd see the truth.

So pardon me ifI cheer for BYU, Utah or Notre Dame if they ever play your racist team.

Yes and No.Southerners have a lot more experience separating race from any cultural activity. I am not sure when my buddy says "that negro sure can run"(cleaned up) that he is a naive white guy.

WhiteCB, you may be right as I had to ignore Penn St, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Michigan but EVERY team down south(SEC) has this type of atmosphere. For Example, the Atlanta Falcons are page 4 while Alabama, Georgia and Auburn are real news down there.

I enjoy the SEC atmosphere more, but I enjoy watching the MWC games more because they are full of whites. In the SEC the attitude now for many is "my blacks are gonna beat your blacks." I know a lot of high school teams who's fans said things like that after integration. Now it has happened at the college level. Most SEC teams have been majority black since the 80s. Only a couple resisted much longer.

WOW! That is sad to hear. I was in florida visiting a friend and a buddy he met down there said black RBs were fast becuase "we bred them that way". I wanted to puke or go into a tirad at that point. Not only does superior evolution take WAY longer than the time period salvery was around but that quote just tells me how down white people are on themselves in the south. I'm soooo glad I don't live in the south, just to aviod these white retards.

These ideas are not only held by southerners. Ignorance is often most prevalent in areas (such as the North), where they are not in contact with blacks. Most liberals (also mostly northern states), adore the black race and marvel at their athletic achievements while also not understanding why negroes and whites can't always get along. They have no clue because they don't see blacks and the trouble that they cause with their violence and disregard for self reliance.

The point I was making is that in the South, many white sports fans don't care enough about the existence of the Caste System, so instead they take what I call a "false ownership" of a coal black SEC team and root for them to beat anyone else. For them, "their" blacks are better than anyone on any team, both in skill level and behavior. It is strange, but that is one trend I have noticed among a lot of white fans who don't necessarily like the fact that whites are not on the field, but have adopted this kind of thinking now that "their team" has become darker than a Maduro cigar.

You may call them southern "white retards" but I can tell you which lot will come to your aid if jumped by a pack of wild negroes. It would be the good ole boys from the south in a flash.

That is one of the true tests of white racial consciousness that matter to me!

Yeah, I didn't want to jump on whiteCB, but I have met a lot of white retards from the north, and some are fairly well educated. I have been all over the country, and I would rather live in the South anyday. From my experiences, there is too much arrogance up there for my taste.

Edit: I met a girl from Ohio at Dukesfest a few weeks ago, and she was as rude as they come. Nothing personal, but I'd rather be surrounded by ignorance as opposed to arrogance, as the former is much easier to change than the latter.

This whole thing sort of reminds me of what my college history professor said about being around his grandmother a lot when he was young. He said it was his first year in college before he knew damnyankee was actually two words!

To foreigners, a Yankee is an American.
To Americans, a Yankee is a Northerner.
To Northerners, a Yankee is an Easterner.
To Easterners, a Yankee is a New Englander.
To New Englanders, a Yankee is a Vermonter.
And in Vermont, a Yankee is somebody who eats pie for breakfast.

Hey not tryin to make anything personal here. I just perfer, and believe, that to me personally Ohio St(Columbus) is the best place to watch college football. That's just what I think and its better than not only southern schools but northern schools such as Pennt St, Michigan, and so on.

Nothing wrong with that at all whiteCB. I'm sure I'd like the Ohio State football atmosphere too. I've talked to a couple of big OSU fans from there and it sounds really cool.

In my travels, I have found that Southerners have the most man-love for their black affletes. 70,00+ White Southernerspack SEC stadiums every weekend in the fall to cheer on the very people who are literally destroying their region. This is one of the (many) reasons why I despise that conference and their child-like fanatics.

I know plenty of racist southerners who still root for their state teams. They don't like basketball because there are too many blacks, but a football uniform acts as camouflage or something.

That being said, the white players on the team are usually their favorites.

Just so we are clear here, one person cannot be racist. Racism is a societal level, institutional practice, not an individual one. One can be racially prejudiced and even discriminate, but personal discrimination and racism are two different things.

The word racist is a noun is it not? Therefore a person can be a racist. I know that you are a sociologist and that you probably see most things at the societal level but I believe a person can be a or be described as racist. I used the term above as an adjective. Using the term as a noun or an adjective is acceptable according to the American Heritage definition.

rac·ism

NOUN:

The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.
Discrimination or prejudice based on race.

OTHER FORMS:
racist (Adjective) (Noun)

I agree that someone can exhibit "racist" behaviors, but the affect they might have as an individual on a whole population of "others" is usually zero. They can institute racism only if they get a lot of people to join them so they can enforce racist laws or customs against the group of others. Racism to "the others" is being held back in society by another group. I think the definition of racism you wrote above is tainted by that same lack of clarity that so many people have today on the issue. If you were to go back and look at a dictionary from the 1950s or before, you'd probably see what I am talking about. Prejudice and discrimination are two different things, but the above definition lumps them in together.

I think the best word for the belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability is racialist, not racist. Real racism to me will always be tied to institutional discrimination, not individual prejudice.

Of course, if you believe that a racist is merely someone who believes there are differences between blacks and whites, good luck trying to convince people that being a racist is no big deal.

Personally, I'd rather stick with the definitional argument. Edited by: Colonel_Reb

Well, I've had to fight and have had guns pulled on me by individual black racists, so I'm not going to be convinced that the racist attitudes of individuals do not count. And I believe acts like that are not well described as "discrimination". I don't think definitional arguments are very effective anyway. What you are saying is similar to what I hear many liberals say when they claim that blacks can't be racist because they don't have any power. They have enough power to make whites flee the cities for the suburbs. They have enough power to kill and rape thousands every year. That has an effect on society. If their acts of violence are frequent enough, and they are, then those acts are just as influential and very much like "institutional" racism.
