2017 World Track & Field Championships

Apologies if this should have been posted in the Media Racism and Stereotyping thread. While we were celebrating the good results from the 2017 World T&F Champs the news media continue to indoctrinate the general public. Here is a selection of some news reports I have seen and read: Schippers...

Dafne Schippers makes it a double 200 m win.

Christophe Lemaitre "White Lightning" 9.92 and 19.80! -- Part Two

T&F News claim it is based upon championship results and also considers season's comparative performances and even number of races. It is IMO quite subjective and always somewhat controversial. Back in 1980 Wells was not ranked first in the 100m because of the boycott despite him having beaten...

Christophe Lemaitre "White Lightning" 9.92 and 19.80! -- Part Two

Amazing CL: In the semifinals Christophe beat two guys with much better PBs - Blake (19.26) and Gatlin (19.57). The three heats had similar negative wind and he qualified fourth fastest. In the semis and finals he also beat four runners with similar PBs - Ashmeade (19.85), Martina (19.85), Webb...

    2016 Rio Olympics

Elispeedster: The 100m has been at the top of popularity in the US for generations but in other places it has only acquired that position in the last 20 years or so. In 1980 in the UK when Allan Wells won the 100m most people were only interested in middle distance with the Coe v. Ovett events...

    2016 Rio Olympics

I saw the super-heavyweight weight-lifting last night. It was expected the Iranian winner from London would win in Rio too; and the room (not a stadium) was filled with his supporters. But a guy from Georgia (which is predominantly Christian) won with an Olympic record. There was drama as the...

    2016 Rio Olympics

HJ winner Derek Drouin not only won with ease but he jumps more consistently than other jumpers. Ever since Whites started dominating this event the "experts" came up with the bouncing stick theory: that it doesn't take spring in the legs to jump high just a non-athletic technique. They...

    2016 Rio Olympics

200m Round 1: Danny Talbot qualified with a 20.27 PB in heat 1 as well as Bruno Hortelano with 20.12 in heat 2.

    2016 Outdoor Track Season

I have just looked at the video of the Martin Rooney win in the European 400m Championships. Now while the time was not good what was so interesting was the lack of interest in the voice of the British commentator describing the victory of a British competitor. This is very typical approach used...

Christophe Lemaitre "White Lightning" 9.92 and 19.80! -- Part Two

WL and 55: I agree Teeters has form issues especially his foot angle and excessive ankle pronation. But 9.995 can't be overlooked. Sorry, I posted this in the wrong thread.

Unfortunately, at the British Championships Kilty was 6th and Robertson 8th.

    UEFA EURO 2016

Don't worry f38 - all the top speed shows is how slow these guys really are! 31 km/hr is 8.611 m/s or 19.26 mph. With 1 second added for the start that represents 12.62 seconds for 100 meters - assuming they don't slow down. I expect most of us on this board are faster than that.

Christophe Lemaitre "White Lightning" 9.92 and 19.80! -- Part Two

This idea has been around for 30 years or more. I remember a Scientific American article giving an analysis of foot contact time, force, and time in air. When I was a sprint coach at that time it was understood micro-improvements of cadence due to "style" adjustment was a major issue. We had...

    white long jumpers

Carl Lewis is commenting on Rutherford here: http://tenplay.com.au/news/2016/03/09/carl-lewis-slams-long-jump-fears-dying-sport He thinks 8.51 is pathetic; conveniently forgetting the drug testing stringency in the UK right now, and that Rutherford lost his small amount of funding after the...

    2016 Indoor Track Season

Andrew Robertson 6.54 was second in British Championships - a big PR from 6.61 a few years back. (Dasaolu won in 6.53). Kilty DQed. NOTE: from a Twitter feed so will need to be confirmed.

    Heisman Trophy Candidate Christian McCaffrey

Dave Sime was definitely the worlds fastest man. He held world records in 110y, 200y and 200y hurdles, defeated Morrow in 56 got injured and missed Melbourne Olympics and should have got gold past his prime in 1960 but for Hary's fast start.

Study finds white people associate superhuman words with black people

The phenomenon is called negrophilia and was described in a 2010 book of that name by Erik Rush - a black guy. Incidentally Sport received only a passing mention but it is worth a read by everyone on this site.

Christophe Lemaitre "White Lightning" 9.92 and 19.80!

Trying to be optimistic: most runners were well off their season's best - Thompson (-0.26) , Ujah (-0.24), Alonso (-0.24), Carter (-0.10) - so the conditions didn't help.

    2014 Outdoor Season

You are correct WL to stay patient. The answer is statistical - because there are so few White guys who can ignore all the negativity and get to run 10.2 then the probability of a White guy having a brake-out season and run sub-10 is correspondingly low. It is actually the the same for...

Christophe Lemaitre "White Lightning" 9.92 and 19.80!

I'm not a great believer in the Basic Time approach because there are so many other variables that affect performance on a given day - nature of wind, temperature, humidity, competitors, track surface, etc. But comparing the 2014 performances of Vicaut (9.95) and Lemaitre (10.31) (assuming Aix...

    2014 Outdoor Season

I have followed Greg's career since 2006 when he was a 8.26 jumper and he said he would soon do "a big jump" - implying over 8.50. I was beginning to think he was not up to it but this is great news.
