Michael Conlan fights Miguel Marriaga this Saturday, coming off of a TKO loss to Leigh Wood.
Conlan won easy and scored three knockdowns. He looks ready to fight a non shop worn opponent in his next bout a rematch with Woods appears down the road as Woods is trying to negotiate a unification bout with Warrington, Conlan may have to fight the winner of that bout.

PS prospects fought and won on Saturday during the day. Johnny Fisher destroyed a fleshy Czech professional opponent, Fisher needs to fight an opponent who will give him rounds he is learning nothing fighting obese tomato cans. As always the case it's hard to match a heavyweight prospect, if you match him too tough and there goes his O and it's back to the drawing board.

Campbell Hatton won again but he still hasn't impressed me enough that he is any different than Hasim Rahman Jr. and other sons of champions who are more celebrity boxers than true blue chip prospects.

@white is right you forgot to mention the best performance of the night from Dalton Smith:cool:

You're right it would be like a food critic giving a review on the appetizer and salad but neglecting the main course... I missed mentioning the fight because I channel surfed and saw bits of the Conlan fight.

It's funny but Smith is the best prospect on essentially the prospect card that Hearn promoted yesterday.

Following up on the weekend PPV it seemed that Andy Ruiz pulled a circus act at the weigh in on Saturday and weighed 268 and change without water in his system and sucking in his gut. He showed up for the fight as obese as ever and once again was too economical for my taste.

As for the fight with 3 knockdowns of the aged Ortiz Ruiz had to get the decision but the scorecards were tight because aside from those rounds Ruiz arguably lost most of the other rounds.

This weekend has two British cards and the DAZN card has a White British fighter headlining against Kid Galahad. Maxi Hughes defends his IBO belt at 135 pounds against the comebacking Kid Galahad. The last I seen of Galahad he was being flattened by Kiko Martinez who was viewed as done like chicken dinner at the world level. Hughes has a spotty record at the domestic level so Galahad should be the betting favorite even with a dodgy chin.

On the supporting bouts of Joyce vs Parker Anthony Cacace fights an Italian national Michael Magnesi for the IBO 130 pound belt. Magnesi is the defending IBO champion and has made 2 successful defenses of his belt so he should be stern test for the Irish fighter who is stepping up to the fringes of the world level.

There is an ESPN card tonight but as far as I know there are no White prospects or even B side name veterans. Note the Joyce vs Parker card is a PPV in England but is an ESPN+ broadcast in the United States if I can find a working link I will try and comment on this card and give a small mention of the main event as the winner of Joyce vs Parker is a mandatory of Usyk for his WBO belt.

Maxi Hughes defeated the overrated "Kid Galahad" to retain his IBO title.

Galahad, whose real name is Abdul Bari Awad, was resorting to dirty tactics including deliberate head butts that cut Hughes.

Ty for the report as I missed this bout as I watched the Joyce vs Parker card on and off. On the under card Anthony Cacae earned a hard fought split decision over his veteran Italian opponent. I only watched this bout in spots as I had to do house work so I won't give a report on this fight beyond the result. I will say this depending on the perceived abilities of the fighters winning an IBO belt is either a launching pad to world level fights or a way to earn a higher purse than European or domestic level fights. Both fighters that won today can go in either route.

PS Joyce vs Parker was a scary donnybrook with the iron chinned Joyce eventually grinding down the tiring Parker with an 11th round stoppage. Joyce is now the WBO interim champion and a mandatory to Usyk at some point in 23'. It will be an interesting fight down the line if they meet up as the styles will make an interesting fight.

I heard during the PPV preview show that Joyce has 5 times the bone density of a normal man and this would make sense as he appears to soak up punishment at an alarming rate and keeps coming forward. I wouldn't be shocked to learn GGG had a similar make up as Joyce and years ago JCC Sr was reputed to have a similar build.

Joyce's chin is being overrated right now.

I knew of the semi pro Joyce loss to Usyk in a team format but never have seen this one before. Joyce here looks skinnier than he is now but doesn't look weight drained and shouldn't be as he was fighting in the open class. This is a strange case of a fighter getting a stronger chin by gaining weight but not being drained before the weight gain.

Ty for the video sir!

Legendary hall of fame boxer Eder Jofre passed away this weekend. Jofre won two titles in the original 8 divisions when in most cases the titles weren't split up between the various bodies in boxing. He only had two losses in his career and they were both to another hall of fame member in Fighting Harada the first Japanese world champion. He also won a world title at 37 on a comeback after his retirement following the back to back loses to Harada.

Sad news about the death of a true legend....https://www.boxingscene.com/eder-jofre-former-two-division-world-champion-passes-away-86--169449

Showtime Sports Youtube channel will be carrying a fight card this Sat. night.
There are more fighters than him competing tomorrow. Prospect Viktor Slavinksyi fights Edward Vasquez, I'm assuming Vasquez is a journeyman as I have never heard of him. Argentine Fernando Martinez defends his IBF belt at 115 against former champion Derwin Ancajas.

In an off tv main event Joey Dawejko fights a main event against a journeyman fighter I have never heard of Terrell Jamal Woods. Joey D is a club fighting draw in the Great Philly area so he should be the favorite here.

PS there was to be huge domestic bout in England that was cancelled because the son of Nigel Benn popped dirty for a masking agent that is found in female fertility pills. He was to fight the son of Chris Eubank for a reputed 4 million US purse split down the middle. Both promoters of the respective fighters tried to press on without official BBBoC sanctioning but supposedly DAZN who were the broadcasters of the PPV wanted no part of a possible spectacle if Benn were to violently ko Eubank.

Here's Chris Algieri discussing whether Benn was doped when he fought him last year...

PS 2 Kavaliauskas fights another circus freak Fox who is a listed 6'4" welterweight who towers over the Lithuanian. Similar to the main event fighter Fundora if you stay on the outside an opponent that tall will pick you off all day long and the Mean Machine will have to get inside and bang away to the body and weaken his spindly legged opponent. I recall Thomas Hearns losing his first classic bout with Leonard by this method and being rescued by the referee while draped on the ropes in the 14th round.

Kavaliauskas dominates Fox

Former world title challenger, Lithuanian welterweight Egidijus Kavaliauskas (23-2-1, 18 KO’s) won a unanimous decision against Mykal Fox (22-3, 5 KO’s) of Washington, D.C. on Saturday night at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. Kavaliauskas floored Fox twice in round three. The Mean Machine was the aggressor pressing Fox throughout the fight as Fox basically fought to survive following the knockdowns.

Attacking much of the fight behind a strong jab, the second half of the fight saw Kavaliauskas chase and continue to attack as Fox kept his distance and boxed away using his height and reach to his advantage. It was all Mean Machine as he continued to attack and landing big punches backing Fox, closing to impress the judges in route to the decision. The judges scored the bout 100-88, 99-89, and 98-90 in favor of the Mean Machine.

Rounding up the weekend fights in an off tv main event Joey D. won an easy sparring session type fight against professional loser Terrell Jamal Woods Daweko is still a full level better than this level of opponent and will fight again. He may have a fight down the road against Sonny Conto for the unofficial Philly heavyweight championship.

On the undercard of the Fondura vs Ocampo interim WBC 154 pound title fight Viktor Slavinskyi seemed to be out boxed by Edward Vasquez as I missed most of the rounds doing house work but saw the last two rounds and it was the case in these rounds as while he was aggressive it wasn't effective aggression. Scores were wide for Vasquez and if the Ukrainian is to improve he will need to fight more like the Mean Machine than what he showed yesterday.

As discussed above the Mean Machine walked through the tall and long Fox. Initially I wasn't sure if Fox would be a problem for the Mean Machine but after looking up his record he has never won a step up fight and judging from watching yesterdays fight he is too passive and lets smaller fights walk him down without eating jabs to get inside of his reach advantage.

PS in the main event Fondura won his interim title fight and I found his ring walk music strange before the fight as entered the ring to Metallica and didn't wave Mexican flags and then I found out he is half Cuban and half Mexican and probably judging from his looks is partially Afro Cuban. He seemed to be losing to his White Mexican opponent and then brawled on the inside and battered him and had him holding on and on the verge of stoppage it was the complete opposite of the passive Fox but this is probably while he at least a fringe world level fighter and Fox is just a club level fighter.

Also in international news Lucas Browne was denied an opportunity to fight for the WBA regular belt against Daniel Dubois by the BBBoC who deemed him to old to be competitive with the young and peaking Dubois. Browne who destroyed the ranked Fa and is rated and may have a case for a civil suit against the once again heavy handed BBBoC who in the last month cancelled a major card because of the death of the Queen, Connor Benn being popped for PED's and now this probable mismatch. Only the Benn fight cancellation seemed to make sense to me.

Where was the BBBoC for the mismatch of Haye vs Fraudley Harrison. Browne could do no worse than Harrison in that fight. https://fightnews.com/

Fundora is so overrated and will lose soon. I don't rate him at all, I had him losing to Sergio Garcia, and beating the mediocre Erickson Lubin (another overrated guy) is nothing to shout about.

As I talked about before he won't be able to beat an elite guy who can get inside of his jab and if he willingly gives up space to brawl on the inside it's a matter of time before he crashes down again. He was lucky the first time he was hurt that he wasn't in with Tyszu or Charlo both would have finished him in that situation.

PS I forgot to mention Argentine 115 pound champion Fernando Martinez pounded out a clear cut unanimous decision over Jerwin Ancajas. I watched this fight in spurts but it seemed whenever I glanced to the screen Martinez was pounding the Filipino to body or head.

After the first fight Ancajas stated his body let him down by a hard weight cut well after this beating his body will be telling him to move on up...

Daniel Dubois vs Kevin Lerena is supposedly happening. I think Lerena has a chance of causing an upset there! Good fight.

This fight is a wash with the proposed Browne fight IMO. The public backlash if Browne ate canvas and counted sheep for a 100 count would be worse but he is a proven fighter more than Lerena at the heavyweight level and has marketing momentum as Warren could show the Fa massacre all day and Browne can talk a good fight.

PS the Benn "accident" is looking increasingly less likely as he supposedly was positive before the WADA test but Matchroom tried to sweep his positive test under the rug. Benn destroyed a few fringe world level guys all should look to hire lawyers and sue Matchroom or Benn as it's increasingly likely he was glowing when he destroyed these guys. https://www.boxingscene.com/report-...gated-over-claims-second-test-failure--169647

Kevin Lerena is a good boxer, but he's too small for heavyweight. He looked bloated in his fight with Wach - he should be fighting at his natural weight of cruiserweight. Warren chose him for Dubois because of his smaller size, he's doing what Bob Arum often did, having his boxers fight smaller opponents.

And Lerena won't win a decision on a Frank Warren card in the UK. And I wouldn't be surprised if a Warren's dodgy referee calls a "British stoppage" in favor of Dubois.

But I'll definitely be rooting for him to beat Dubois.

There is a full weekend of boxing this week and it starts tonight. I believe the FS2 card Sat. night might be the best.
