Boston Red Sox player Dustin Pedroia has announced his retirement from baseball after battling knee injuries for three years that allowed him to play just 9 games. He will be paid 12 million dollars this year. He won ROY & MVP while playing in Boston.

Wow was just wondering to myself what happened to this guy while I was clicking on this thread. He had a great career and will go down as one of the best to play in MLB under 6 foot!

I loved watching Dustin play - hard nosed, hustled, skilled, great defensive and offensive player. That slide in 2017 is what pretty much destroyed his career. I don't think it was a malicious slide on Machado's part but I just read that Pedroia had knee replacement surgery and will never be able to run again - he's only 38 years old - that's a damn shame. He was one of the best true ball players of the past 15-20 years.

He was old school. Much as I hate to praise anything from Boston, the guy was great. Glad he got paid on his way out the door
