I believe Helenius time has passed as a true heavyweight Championship challenger.

He has some money left to earn if he fights out of Europe. If he fights anywhere else he'll not only not get paid but he'd have to beat judges, referees, and doping organizations also. Tough business this boxing.

The fight is on youtube but I'm embarrassed to link it. Basile came all the way from Argentina to Finland for that? A punching bag could have put up a better fight than the tattooed freak. BoxRec has Helenius listed as only 1/2 inch taller than the supposedly 6'6" Argentine. Why is it then that Helenius looks a head taller? Basile is the number one heavyweight in Argentina. Not good.

You only used to see people like that in the circus side show.

Argentina has never really produced large boxers of quality. Most of the world class boxers in Argentina have tended to be Mestizos or Castizos and then tend to be smaller people than full blooded Europeans. Also Spaniards aren't large people girth wise compared to Nordic people or Slavs. Oscar Bonevena was Italian on his paternal side and he was a freak size wise as he had the poundage that modern heavyweights have.

Ps Helenius has a beer gut for this fight. I dare say he trained down to his opposition. Not that he ever really has been a lean ripped type boxer.

Lost hope in this guy. Now he will have a chance to change my mind and become relevant again. We shall see.

I haven't lost hope in him. The bookies have his ******* opponent a 4 to 1 favorite.

He lost today. Time for him hang them up. His window of opportunity was 5 years or so ago. He never realized his potential. Something tells me he lacked the discipline.

Damn. Thats a shame. It says he got in good shots in round two and then may have gotten injured. He's too injury prone.

I agree unless he had a broken hand, the ambition after the 2nd round wasn't there and it seemed like he was clock watching while landing the rare counter punch. It's not like Whyte is a Rocky Marciano, Mike Tyson pressure fighter clone. His career trajectory is downward at this point and the pay cheques will become thinner.

Ps in the main event Joshua looked winded again but he didn't have a guy who was capable of exposing his gas tank issues. Somebody that can ride out the storm but has power late can pull off the upset against Joshua.

Helenius has fought twice since last October when he lost to Dillian Whyte by decision. Both fights have been against the same club fighter. He won the first one in March by split decision, and then won the rematch last night by UD. The guy he fought has a 10-16 record. This is not a good sign for Helenius as he should have been able to stop a fighter of this caliber. In any case, he is 34 so he may have a few years left, but his best years have probably passed. I never watched much of Helenius, but he's a huge guy and seems to have had the potential to become elite but just never materialized.

I just saw the replay. Great win by Helenius. He looked to be in tip-top condition and able to whether Kownacki's storm. Maybe he has one more great fight in him!

At one time even our good friend Max K. was high on Helenius. Then he slumped. Sometimes badly.

They say you're only as good as your last fight, and the Finn is looking pretty good right now and in line for a nice payday somewhere.

Helenius stops Kownacki in huge upset

https://fightnews.com/heavyweight-results-from-brooklyn/70738

Al Haymon and PBC have taken several big losses at heavyweight in recent months (Wilder, Ruiz, and now Kocnecki).
The only sign of this upset happening was Helenius looked fitter than he has looked in years and Kownacki just didn't look like he was taking him seriously at the weigh in or face off. Helenius can bang but needs room to punch and extend his arms, I like everybody else thought he was on the down slide and was here to find a soft spot in the ring once the going got tough.

I never liked the style of Kownacki but it seemed to be working against the Helenius level of fighters as far as I know he never has been wobbled before let alone dropped. He must get tighter defense and lose weight to be less plodding on his feet and get a camp away from family and friends as he had to have been distracted from various people in Brooklyn and Long Island where he now lives.

Helenius should now be the mandatory for Joshua but with WBA and the other organizations they tend to make the rules up as they go along. The WBC has made the boorish Whyte wait for his shot going on 3 years according to his camp and promoter. Helenius could have the same bs to deal with.

PS, here is an interview where he stated he took the Whyte fight on short notice and wasn't match fit enough to go for the win and instead clock watched and preserved his energy levels....

Kownacki looks skinny in this photo. Maybe it's the angle. Or is that somebody else?
