This 17 year old sprinting phenom from Poland is one to keep a close eye on. He set a under 18 Polish Record today and he will continue to amaze as he gets older. We will probably have an thread just about him in the future!

Denis Almaz (or Almas) from Germany, a new name this season.
He just ran 10.08 at Weinheim, Germany! A complete surprise.
He thoroughly beat Luca Lai of Italy (10.33)
Yannick Wolf was 2nd in 10.27.
Trying to find more info about Almas.

His name is Deniz Almas and he is a 23 year old sprinter from Germany. He set another p.b. several weeks ago of 10.24 so this is a huge jump. To win in a new personal best of 10.08 with no competition is great. The kid has some serious talant! :)

Deniz Almas sprints into the spotlight in 10.08 seconds

Alexandra Dersch

Sprinter Deniz Almas impressed at the B&S Kurpfalz Gala light in Weinheim on Saturday afternoon. The German indoor champion won the 100 meters in 10.08 seconds. It was the best performance by a German sprinter over this track since 2016. In the long jump, Julian Howard returned with 8.06 meters.

Strong performance by Deniz Almas. The 23-year-old Wolfsburg player needed only 10.08 seconds at 1.4 m/s tailwind for the 100 meters at the Sepp-Herberger Stadium in Weinheim, which was only open to 300 spectators due to the Corona restrictions.

Most recently, julian Reus, a German sprinter, was faster over this track in 2016. On 29 July 2016, the Erfurt, then still in the jersey of the TV Wattenscheid, set the German record for the 100 metres with 10.01 seconds.

With this achievement Denis Almaz also became the title contender for the German Championships next weekend (8/9 August) in Braunschweig, as no other German sprinter has run nearly as fast as the German indoor champion so far this season. Second was the Munich Yannick Wolf (10.27 sec) on Saturday afternoon.

that's interesting.
The surname would appear to be Persian (Arabic) origin if Almaz or Tartar origin if Almas - Deniz (given name) is of Turkish origin.
Do we have another outlier who is going on to make a name for himself as a sprinter?

I assumed he was Turkish, based on the fact that he's from Germany

LOL, yes - me too!

Kiryu can't be far from a consistent sub 10 guy now. I've seen him and team mates in Australia in January/February. Such a work ethic - they ran heats and final of the 100 when I was there and Kiryu also ran and won the 200 same day.
Australian sprinters on the other hand ran once

he's been at this level and not given up for ages - I remember he was 3rd to Lemaitre and Guliyev in 2009 European juniors 100.
He'd beat Lemaitre now quite possibly.

Almas looks popular with the other guys. That's good for team spirit

Deniz Almas does it again. He is now the 100 meters German National Champion for the first time at only 23 years of age! He ran a time of 10.09 for the gold medal with no wind assistance! Wow is this impressive! :)

Also I should add that Philipp Trutenatwho came in 4th place is also 23 and he ran 10.28 a few weeks ago and 10.32 today. Both of these young sprinters showed talent and composure under pressure at these German Natl Champs. I was a little sad to see the legend of german sprinting finish 3rd. Julian Reus has inspired so many of the local youth around Germany.

Men

100m (8) (0.1) 1 Dennis Almaz 10.09 2 Joshua Hartmann 10.23; 3 Julian Reus 10.26; 4 Philipp Trutenat 10.32; 5 Michael Pohl 10.35 (10.34 (0.4) 2s2); 6 Aleksandar Askovic 10.41 (10.40 (-0)

08.08.2020 | Braunschweig
DM Day 1: Deniz Almas unbeatable in 10.09 seconds

Alexandra Dersch

They are championships at a distance – but still with championship-worthy performances. Deniz Almas crowned the first day of the 120th German Championships at the Eintracht Stadium in Braunschweig, which takes place under strict hygiene regulations in view of the Corona pandemic, with his rapid 10.09 seconds over the 100 meters. Max Hess won his fourth title in the triple jump. But there were also numerous surprise winners this Saturday in Braunschweig.

They are different championships than the athletes are used to. Championships with mask. At a distance. And without spectators. Championships in the Corona Summer. But still championships, in which the athletes pushed themselves to top performance, because at best the reward shines golden.
The fastest wolf is also the fastest German. Deniz Almas (VfL Wolfsburg) filled the entire Eintracht Stadium with his cheering scream. Justified, after all, the 23-year-old had only recently won the title in the 100 meters with 10.09 seconds. 10.09 seconds – no German champion has been over this distance since Julian Reus' record run in 2014. In Braunschweig, it was also The Julian Reus (LAC Erfurt) who put a lot of pressure on the young Almaz from the first metre, but the five-time open-air winner, who wants to end his career after the 2021 Olympic Games, came out of the blocks by far best.

But then the young savages romped in the person of Deniz Almas, but also the Cologne-based Joshua Hartmann. The 21-year-old Hartmann had already run a best time of 10.14 seconds this year and also proved his worth in the hot Braunschweig stadium. In 10.23 seconds, after finishing fifth last year, he took silver ahead of Julian Reus, who proved in 10.26 seconds that he should still not be underestimated at the age of 32. This year, however, Germany's sprint king is clearly called Deniz Almas, as he was able to win the title over 60 meters in the hall. The 10.09 seconds is the second fastest time in Europe this summer – only Almas himself was faster this year (10.08 sec).

Bruno is back! This is great news even though it's late in the summer. He is in very good shape. Excited to see what he can do over 100, 200 and 400 meters. Mostly the first two distances as he is the best sprinter in Spain by far! :)

good to see Bruno running again - I wish it was here in my state where he was born.
I'm also surprised that tiny ANDORRA LA VELLA even has a track, being wedged into the heart of the Pyrenees. So it was run at slight altitude (1020 metres)

Andrew Pozzi will be a serious threat to medal at the olympics next year in Japan. He put down a very fast time today with little competition.

08/13/2020 | Diamond League Restart
Top fields in Monaco: Corinna Schwab and Deniz Almas enter the big stage

Jan-Henner Reitze

Despite Corona, Corinna Schwab and Deniz Almas have made a rapid rise nationally this year. They have earned a starting spot at the Diamond League reboot in Monaco on Friday. At the meeting with four other DLV athletes, the international scene finally meets again as usual.

No more long-distance duels, no more switching into the front gardens of the protagonists and no fields decimated on three athletes. With the Diamond League meeting in Monaco (Monte Carlo) on Friday (14 August) a bit of normality returns to the international scene. The two-hour program is packed with stars, as known from before Corona. 5,000 spectators are also allowed in the "Stade Louis II", which in recent years has been a guarantee for fast times on the middle distances.

Six DLV athletes have also announced their intentions at the Diamond League reboot. After his strong indoor season, German champion Marc Reuther (LG Eintracht Frankfurt) can compete with the best in the world around world champion Donavan Brazier (USA). A high tempo is pre-programmed. The Ingebrigtsen brothers Jakob and Filip world champion Timothy Cheruiyot (Kenya) claim over 1,500 meters.

In the high-class women's 5,000-meter field with world champion Hellen Obiri (Kenya), European record holder Sifan Hassan (Netherlands) and the World Championship runner-up over 10,000 meters Letesenbet Gidey (Ethiopia) is unfortunately missing the World Championship third Konstanze Klosterhalfen (TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen). Olympic champion Faith Kipyegon and European champion Laura Muir are two of the world's best 1,500m runners in the 1,000m.
Constantin Price in a race with Karsten Warholm

Constantin Preis (VfL Sindelfingen) can compete in the 400 metres hurdles with none other than Karsten Warholm (Norway). For the first time ever at a Diamond League meeting, 400-meter runner Corinna Schwab (LG Telis Finanz Regensburg) will compete in all six races so far this summer against national competition. Opponents such as European champion Justyna Swiety-Ersetic (Poland) offer a chance to move on to the next level.

This also applies to the DLV Sprint starter of the year Deniz Almas (VfL Wolfsburg), who is over 200 meters ahead of his biggest international meeting start to date. He can prove himself against the big ones of the scene: the world champions of 2019 Noah Lyles (USA) and of 2017 Ramil Guliyev (Turkey). The younger brother of reigning world champion Josephus Lyles is also about to make his Diamond League debut. Deniz Almas moved into the field at short notice because the Olympic third Christophe Lemaitre (France) had to cancel.
Rebekka Haase is also back in the Diamond League coming off her time of 11.11. in the 100 meters recently.

Christophe pulled up in the 100m at the Pavo Nurmi meet in Finland.
He's been racing this year, and putting up pathetic times.
He would have been running for last place at this meet.
I'm so over this guy . . . loaded with talented, but has no guts, no heart, no determination, no desire, no courage.
It just goes to show that talent is only one factor that goes into making a great athlete.

Ingebrigtsen and Warholm!
Europe's 2 best track athletes are from the tiny nation of Norway. Norway has less than 6 million people.
Great job by both ofthese guys. I have the utmost respect for these guys.

I think your leaving out the world record holder in the pole vault Mondo Duplantis! I do agree about Ingebrigtsen and Warholm. All 3 of these warriors are a sight to see and a joy to watch! :)
