Well after taking 2007 off to rest from injuries(broken hand) Fedor is starting up right where he left off. He beat the Korean Monster(this guy is 7 foot 2!) by way of 1st Rd submission on New Year's Eve in Japan. Man does Fedor love the submission moves! In October he signed a 2 year 6 fight deal with M-1 Global. It's a MMA gig trying to become big time after it was bought this past year by some American investors. Its a good contract because it allows him to fight in UFC or anyone else that would dare challenge Fedor.

After 3 years, the great one, Fedor Emelianenko, is set to return to the ring!

Hopefully, he'll finally sign with the UFC, but given his long-standing feud, it seems very doubtful. Given his relationship with for Strikeforce promoter, Scott Coker, I could see him signing with Bellator to fight several of their terrible Negro heavyweights (Kongo, Slice, Lashley, Ortiz).

Great news! Fedor was a beast, one of the most badass athletes in all of sports when he was active. Hopefully his time off gave his body time to heal like Vitali and he can make one more strong run.

Fedor is indeed the MMA GOAT...not Silva, "YOnes" or even Rickson Gracie.

"The Last Emperor" will be back in action in October against Chael Sonnen.

Fedor has lost his chin (as he’s well past his prime), but he still has heavy hands & sambo skills. With that, he should KO/TKO Sonnen (like he did Frank ”Murr”).

Fedor defeats Chael Sonnen
Dan Miragliotta is the third man in the cage for this heavyweight grand prix semifinal. Emelianenko drops Sonnen with a left hook in an initial exchange. Fedor lets Sonnen return to his feet. Sonnen is attempting to punch his way into takedown range. The Russian shucks his foe aside and lets him up again. Emelianenko connects with a body punch, but moments later Sonnen finally scores a takedown. The Russian reverses it shortly thereafter and assumes top position. Sonnen rushes forward and Emelianenko tosses the American aside. Sonnen takes top position after dropping low for a takedown, then inexplicably attempts to roll and take Emelianenko with him. That backfires and Fedor winds up on top, dropping heavy ground-and-pound. They stand, and Sonnen is pressing the action with big left hands. Sonnen explodes and plants “The Last Emperor” on his back near the fence with 2:00 to go in the round. Sonnen is on top in half guard. Emelianenko is doing a good job controlling the posture of his foe. Emelianenko lands some lefts to the ribs from his back. Sonnen transitions to mount, only to be reversed by the former Pride Star. Emelianenko stands and then launches an assault when Sonnen returns to his feet. They end up back on the canvas, and Fedor takes top position and unleashes a salvo of unanswered left hands. Miragliotta watches as the Russian lands repeated shots, urging Sonnen to defend himself. Finally, the veteran official is forced to call off the bout. Emelianenko will advance to the finals of the heavyweight grand prix to face Ryan Bader.
The Official Result
Fedor Emelianenko def. Chael Sonnen via TKO (Punches) R1 4:46

Sonnen is a 185 bulked up, even Frank Mir could beat Sonnen....Hell GSP would kill Sonnen at 185. If Sonnen had beat Fedor I would never watch MMA again.

I saw this fight, Fedor literally toyed with Sonnen. If the fight were a boxing match it would have been stopped on the three knockdown rule as Sonnen was dropped three times from straight right hands to start the fight. After that it was stuffed take downs and the inevitable full mount and cranium punches. It's hard to tell if Fedor is revived or Sonnen was too tiny to do anything to Fedor. It's probably more the latter...

If Fedor wants to shine again he needs to fight a legit top ten heavyweight otherwise he is just another "has been" fighting for the money aka Rampage, Wanderlei Silva, Arlovski etc....

Fedor's time as a top heavyweight ended in 2010. He shouldn't be fighting ANY top 10 heavyweight. He can't take those big punches to the chin anymore. He is now fighting for the cash. And he deserves all the money he can get. During his prime he was an all time great mma fighter, maybe the best mma fighter of all time. But his prime fighting years ended suddenly and quickly. He now should only be fighting certain types of fighters.

I agree with Phil. Fedor changed after 2010. It happens to all athletes. With some it's sudden, with others more gradual. With Fedor it was sudden. I think it was sudden with Ken Shamrock too. Your body as a survival mechanism tells you it is simply not going to take those big shots any more.

Fedor should cash in against these second tier fighters like Chael and get that money invested.

Yeah, Fedor is 42. He'll be an underdog against Ryan Bader. He looked exhausted in that Chael fight after only a few minutes. He can definitely still deliver hard shots, but can't take them very well as seen in the Mitrione fight. He's still fast for his age, but not near as fast as he was in 2004/5 (obv). I've love to see him take this tourney win though and then retire.

Fedor in probably his last fight KO'd Rampage Jackson in the 1st round! It happened in Japan today. No doubt Fedor an all-time great MMA fighter.

Jackson was terrified the whole fight. He took one right hand and was done....neither of these guys should be fighting anymore.

Glad to see Fedor win and pad his resume. Prime Fedor is still best heavyweight ever.

Good outcome, shame about his brothers criminality and lack of discipline, had the potential to be one of the best, maybe the best.
