I’m excited for the Scotty Miller and Sutton Smith debut tonight! Bucs also have a potential practice squad guy in WR Spencer Schnell.

I was wondering why I never saw Scotty Miller, he didn’t travel with the team due to a hamstring injury just like Andy Isabella. Pretty disappointing although both will make the 53 man roster, I was excited to see what they could do. Hopefully they can stay healthy, injuries are the biggest career killer in the NFL.

Justin Watson has looked good. I've watched parts of the second and third quarters and he's had a few catches, all on short and medium routes.

Watson reminds me of a poor mans Matt Jones. The guy has good size, great hands and very nice speed. He could become a star if he is allowed to get the playing time. Tampa is alot more fun to watch recently. It's about time. So many teams to keep an eye on this year.

Looks like the two players I wanted to see tonight, Scotty Miller and Sutton Smith were both injured and didn’t play. It’s so important for our guys to stay healthy, especially late round picks. However, undrafted rookie Spencer Schnell has impressed with 6 catches for 114 yards so far tonight.

Tampa's third string QB, Ryan Griffin, has played most of the game and started throwing to Schnell repeatedly once Schnell came in the game. He looks good too but is too far down on the depth chart. Tampa also has a bunch of White backup TEs, but it remains to be seen what the opening day roster will look like. I was watching Bruce (anti)Arians being interviewed the other day and he was bragging about how all of his coordinators are black and how he's hired not one but two female coaches. So don't get too optimistic about the Bucs just yet.

Wow, now Schnell at 7 catches for 119 yards. I believe that’s the most catches and yards for any player so far this week.

What’s even crazier about Schnell’s performance is that he recorded all 7 catches in the final 9 minutes of the game!

You have to wonder if that is a psychological side effect of having the name "Arians"

I’ll be at the 49ers vs. Cowboys game today, too bad Bosa won’t be playing I wanted to see him. Not too many players I’m looking forward to seeing, maybe Trent Taylor and Luke Gifford (Nebraska).

Braxton Berrios for the most part has been getting bad reviews of late from the caste media so this is encouraging:

Bill Belichick Thoroughly Explains How Braxton Berrios Has Improved

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was in-depth but concise in his assessment of Braxton Berrios after Thursday night’s preseason opener. Berrios caught three passes for 45 yards, including a fourth-down conversion in the Patriots’ 31-3 preseason win over the Detroit Lions. He also returned four punts for 35 yards. Belichick seems to think Berrios, who did all of his work out of the slot Thursday night, has his route-running skills down. It’s everything else the 2018 sixth-round pick has needed to work on after spending all of last season on injured reserve.

“I think his improvement has come from his training, understanding the offense, and timing work with the quarterbacks,” Belichick said Friday morning. “Those are things that he didn’t have as much of an opportunity to do last year, especially early in the season, in training camp, and then, later on, he was able to train more. But, he still wasn’t able to work with the team, so this year he’s been able to do all of those and there’s no question that that’s helped him, and helped our team.” Berrios is in a competition with fellow wideouts Ryan Davis, Phillip Dorsett, Maurice Harris, Dontrelle Inman, Jakobi Meyers, Gunner Olszewski, Damoun Patterson, Demaryius Thomas and Cameron Meredith for what could be just three spots on the 53-man roster. Meyers set himself apart Thursday night with six catches for 69 yards with two touchdowns, but Berrios finished second on the team in receptions and yards. Roster cuts are going to be difficult in some areas for the Patriots on Aug. 31.

Drue Tranquill highest-graded Chargers defender Thursday

Drue Tranquill got his chance to show off both run-stopping and coverage ability against the Arizona Cardinals, and he didn’t disappoint.

Drue Tranquill, the first pick for the Chargers on the final day of the 2019 NFL Draft, was brought in as an athletic linebacker who was very capable and comfortable in coverage. He tested well at the combine, and his physical traits make him a more prototypical NFL linebacker than most of last year’s linebacker corps. The Chargers began their quest to upgrade the position by selecting Kyzir White (also a fourth-round pick) in 2018, and Tranquill’s ability to cover ground in the run and passing game makes him another future asset against the New England Patriots.

No. 49 looked like the team’s best defender on Thursday, and the rating all but solidifies his strong rookie debut. Though Dzubnar graded in the top five and led the team in total tackles, it’s hard to see Tranquill buried behind him for much longer. Tom Telesco may have found himself another gem with this one, adding to his treasure’s trove of draft steals once again.

This is really bad news:

So, Trent Taylor suffered a broken foot. General manager John Lynch just said on the live 49ers broadcast that Taylor will be out indefinitely after catching a touchdown pass during Thursday’s practice. Lynch said they didn’t think much of it, then when Taylor got checked out after practice by the medical team, they found out he broke his foot. We’ll update the timetable as soon as we hear about that. This is almost worst-case scenario for the offense, as Taylor was Jimmy Garoppolo’s go-to wide receiver during training camp.

Maxx Crosby broke his hand tonight in his debut, I don’t think it should keep him out too long.

Also Luke Gifford’s injury seems to be a not too severe ankle sprain, I’m so glad it wasn’t a knee injury.

Hate to see that Taylor and Crosby both have injuries. Hopefully they are pretty much ready to go early in the season. We still have about a month until kick off.

The news on Taylor is better today than it was last night:

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said there's "hope" Trent Taylor (foot) will be ready for Week 1.
Taylor suffered what is known as a "Jones fracture," though luckily the Niners caught it quick enough that it won't cost him much time. A complete fracture likely would have shelved Taylor 8-10 weeks, but instead San Francisco is hoping to get him back in about 4-6. Jalen Hurd, Richie James and Jordan Matthews should all see increased slot opportunities in Taylor's absence, however long it may be.

On Crosby: Multiple outlets reported that defensive Maxx Crosby, another fourth-round pick, suffered a fractured hand. Gruden did not address Crosby’s injury. But Crosby tweeted after the game: “I’m Good Y’all”.

LA Rams UDFA Alex Bachman Wake Forest, 4.4 forty, had 2 receptions for 24 yards last night. Interestingly another Wake Forest graduate, QB John Wolford had a decent day, 6/8 54 yards.
Also, interestingly, former Wake Forest RB, Matt Colburn also with the Rams, 5 carries, 11 yards. Colburn you may remember was the starting RB for Wake, 5'8 190lbs., with his blazing 4.73 forty time and explosive 28 vertical is on an NFL roster is amazing!!
While current Wake Forest RB, Cade Carney, 5'11 213 lbs., 4.53 forty and 40' vertical was the back up much of last season and ended up with over a 1,000 yards rushing.
What are the odds Carney gets an NFL sniff next season? Something to keep an eye on.
Carney has had some injuries at Wake and had shoulder surgery in the off season, however he does a firm grip on the number 1 RB position as of now.

The first week of preseason put me in a grouchy mood. But thanks to all above posters for pointing out some bright spots including speedy LBs Tranquill and Sommers. Lot of talented rookie white LBs this go around.

None of the drafted wide outs made any noise. Hunter Renfrow barely played and Scott Miller and Andy Isabella sat out due to injuries. And David Sills had an unmemorable beginning.

I find these sudden NFL injuries of speedy white players a huge annoyance. Not thinking conspiracy (?) but I'll be damned. Miller and Isabella played their entire college careers basically injury free and once they enter the NFL injuries crop up.

Same damn thing happened to S Troy Apke last season. Always healthy at Penn State he essentially missed his entire NFL rookie season with a hamstring issue. Good grief.

Things are tough enough for white wide receivers so injuries can be the kiss of death. Dylan Cantrell has already become a victim and now it looks like Trent Taylor may not start the season due to a minor broken foot ( see above).

Then I had to listen to an announcer this morning claim back up QB Trace McSorley might become if "things work out" a practice squad player. What? I thought they were going to utilize him like Taysom Hill ( who had 45 yards on 6 carries in his preseason game) and keep him on as a third QB?

Maybe I am being too negative at the moment but come 53 man roster time in three weeks every stinking year I come away disappointed. Not sure this year that trend will stop. Hoping for the best as always though.

Just about had a heart attack. Everything is fine. ESPN just had a headline saying "Cousins" has a torn ACL. Turns out it was the basketball Cousins. Speaking of Vikings QB Kirk Cousins I predict this will be the season he reaches superstar status.

Tonight should be the debut of WR Andy Isabella as the Cardinals play Hunter Renfrow and the Raiders on ESPN at 8:00 EST.

Friday night there is the Giants against the Bears on the NFL network at 7:30 EST. Chance to get a look at QB Daniel Jones. How can we forget how the media took a dump on him draft day. Unprecedented hate. In their opener he flashed serious talent. Athletic, poised, hyper intelligent, Jones has what it takes to become a star NFL QB.

White on white crime sighting. Because Scotty Miller the Tampa Bay WR with burning speed has had a hamstring issue there is talk that Spencer Schnell might take his roster spot. News flash! They just hired me to be the "arbitrator." My final decision on the 53 man roster? I'm keeping WRs Justin Watson, Spencer Schnell and Scott Miller. That wasn't so hard was it? In reality if you wash away the caste bias I see no reason whatsoever why every team can't at least have two white wide receivers on their rosters. And some could have up to four white receivers.

Too bad the toxic caste cloud that looms over the NFL prohibits such a reasonable proposition.

The Schnell situation reminds me of Chad Beebe last year, definitely good enough to be playing but stuck in the wrong situation. I think Schnell would be better off on a different team since he’d likely be the 5th or 6th receiver on the Bucs. I also think the media doesn’t understand Miller’s talent level like us who have been following him for years know. I hope Schnell sticks around on the practice squad or gets picked up by a team that needs him. The good thing is that the NFL has seen that the guy can play, but I don’t think it’s fair for the media to say that they’re necessarily competing for the same roster spot. Miller brings more to the table than Schnell, but Schnell can bring a lot to the table if a team is looking for the typical slot receiver. Once they see Miller torch a DB straight down the field they’ll realize that they aren’t the same just because they’re white. Seems like the media people see 5’9” white receiver and assume that, typical caste talk that we see all the time. Luckily, the coaches around them everyday should know what we know. Instead of making the lazy Edelman or Welker comparison they should be comparing Miller to Don Beebe or Brandin Cooks, some of the coaches have made the pretty accurate DeSean Jackson comparison too. We saw it all throughout the draft with Andy Isabella laughably being compared to Welker as well.
