Faded? no, both ran a season's best (in Dafne's case), a virtual season best (Guliyev).

Dafne, while well beaten in Lausanne, ran 11.04 with virtually zero wind - a good result for her IF it means she has overcome that injury/niggle at last. If so she can work on her speed endurance for her best event, the 200. There's time till Doha.
Guliyev never worries me since he generally turns up in shape for big meets. Admittedly if there are some new 200 men on the block with the talent to go 19.5 then his is a tough ask - but he has had a great career. His 20.01 last week (-0.1) was no disaster. It was 2/100ths off his season best but he had 1.5 mps more wind against him in comparison to that 19.99 in May.

Those times were run in Lausanne which is at 1600ft (500m) altitude. Everyone ran great times in Lausanne because of that.
Instead of the times, look at who they beat and who they lost to, and by how much.
Dafne was soundly beaten by Dina Asher Smith of Britain by more than a tenth of a second. She used to beat her regularly. Ta Lou also beat her by a tenth.
Guliyev loss was worse. He lost to 2 Canadians (DeGrasse and Brown), an Ecuadorian (Quinonez), and of course Noah Lyles. Finishing 5th in a race with 1 American and no Caribbean sprinters is worrisome to me. In May, when he ran 19.99 in Doha, he beat Brown and Quinonez by 2 tenths of a second! Despite the time of 20.01 (-0.1w), he lost to sprinters he had beaten easily in the beginning of the season. So, to me, he's faded.

The wind was 1.1 in Robertson's race, run in Regensburg.
Anaso Jobodwana of South Africa, won the race in the same time as Robertson, 10.17.
Julian Reus came 4th in 10.28, which I think is a season's best for him.

that's pretty fair run from Robertson then

500m altitude is only a help of 0.02 /100m according to Brian Macs wind/altitude assistance tables. So that 11.04 from Schippers with nil wind may have been her best mid season run for a few years. I'm hopeful whereas I haven't felt that way the last two seasons.

I still think Schippers 11,04 is a good time considering she runs clean and 2 of the top three are most likely juicing. When you are in a race with two of the fastest starters in women's sprinting and you are notoriously slow out of the blocks your race is gonna be a tough one. I still believe Asher Smith is juicing as are most British black athletes. I doubt DeGrasse is cheating and to his credit he is extremely fast so for Guliyev to get beat by him is no embarrassment, I do not root for DeGrasse as he is not a white sprinter but I will acknowledge his speed.. Lyles is on gojuice, if not he is a freak....Given USA's history of doping it very likely he is cheating.

I have often wonder what would happen if Warholm just focused on the 400m....

Despite the slow time, it's great to see Christophe finally making a summer entrance. He is still fun to watch and if all goes right could be a huge dark house this fall at the world champs. Yes it's a super long shot I know as he is running club times at the moment but I'm hoping we can see a few last glimpses of hope from PepeleFlew(Lemaitre).

I'm very excited for the 2019 European Under 23 Championships. We have so many sprinters to keep an eye on. Many of these guys are already stars and only getting better
by the day! I want to see some of our men and women get closer to 10 and 11 seconds in the 100 meters. I can see quite a few capable of it if the sprinting conditions are right. One guy
to keep a close eye on is Henrik Larsson of Sweden. I think this kids nickname should be the"blonde bullet".

Universiades italy ......obviously white lightning had mentioned the German Schulte ...I was aware of him but of course wanted to see if he could perform under pressure outside of Germany ...looked impressive this morning in his heat running into -1.9 ......the mulatto German Hartmann was unimpressive and failed to progress ( don't know where he got 10.16 from because he has come nowhere near it since ) ......Oliver bromby and Dom ashwell both looked good ....although I have a feeling henrik Larson is the guy to look out for ....although have to say the Germans may have found a real talent in Schulte .....

Larson ran 10.45 into a - 1.0 headwind ...ashwell 10.46 ...same race ....but Larson is more of a 100 guy ....ashwells first 30/40 very impressive as one would expect from a Brit indoor champ over 60 .....Larson found his range over last 20 meters ...but a quality competitive heat for both of them ....heats gone according to recent season bests .....

Note .....some nice comments by commentary team of Eurosport re white athletes ...........and noting not a Jamaican or Caribbean in in sight ...why etc ....and commenting on how some carribbean athletes come out of nowhere later in their careers after not showing real quality at 19/20 .....we all know why .....

Swoboda looked comfortable despite some serious wrapping on her knees etc, very impressed by Herman in the womans 100mh, easy win. Both British women Reekie and Baker womens 800m look strong.

One thing I like about Olsson and Schulte is their height. I think the longer strides gives them even more upside as their stride rate increases. Think Christophe Lemaitre and how his huge strides just eat up the track. It is a real advantage in my honest opinion if you have the genetics to go with it which these two guys look like they have plenty of!

Does anyone know what happened to Samuel Purola? Another tall teenager with incredible genetics who has disapeared. I'm guessing he had an injury? If anyone has an update please let me know?

I've seen Purola's name this season, but his times weren't worth mentioning:
Turku (Finland), 11.6.2019 -Paavo Nurmi Games-
Men
100m (1.3) 1 Mike Rodgers (usa) 10.00; 2 Justin Gatlin (usa) 10.01; 3 Lamont Marcell Jacobs (ita) 10.13; 4 Ojie Edoburun (gbr) 10.17; 5 Henrik Larsson (swe) 10.35 (10.25 (1.4) 3h2); 6 Bismark Boateng (can) 10.36; 7 Emile Erasmus (rsa) 10.42; 8 Samuel Purola 10.50 (10.43 (1.4) 4h2)

He will be competing in the European U20 Championships next week.

We may have missed this before:

Bulle (Switzerland), 7.7.2019 -Meeting de la Gruyere-
100m (0.4) 1 Christophe Lemitre (fra) 10.27 (10.27 (0.5) 1h1); 2 Antonio Infantino (ita) 10.32; 3 Haiyang Xu (chn) 10.36;
200m h1 (-0,5) 1 Antonio Infantino (ita) 20.46; 2 Christophe Lemaitre (fra) 20.96;

I'm guessing that he was so winded from the 100m, that he couldn't muster the strength to run a decent 200m. ;-)

Are you aware of a 21-year old kid named Miltiadis Tentoglou? Experts here describe him as one of the greatest jumpers they have ever seen. . . . Apparently, he started training in long-jump just in 2015 and within less than four years he has collected any medal there is in international competitions. His trainer claims that he currently jumps closely to 8,80 during training sessions and that he doesn't even take the sport seriously. They claim that he will become the first jumper to break the 9-meter barrier.

My question is, is any of this a possibility or is there any sign of truth or just local hype? I see he has won a lot of gold in international competitions recently though . . . If he's as talented as they say, I hope he takes the right decisions and doesn't waste his talents.

Tentoglou won the European U23 Championship with a European leading jump of 8.32m or 27ft, 3-1/2in. A very good jump!

Congratulations to Larsson, Bromby, and Van Gool.
German sprinters continue their tradition of under performing at major meets.

I love the fact that 7 of the 8 finalists in the mens 100 meters were white sprinters. The top 6 finishers and all of the medalists were our guys. This bode well for the future. Henrik Larsson has been sick for a week or two. He decided to compete anyway. He admitted that in the final he had no strength in his legs and couldn't explode out of the blocks like usual He said his legs were numb and he couldn't feel anything with very little explosive power. Despite this he came back from a horrible start and ran down everyone. Larsson was also the 2nd youngest sprinter in the finals! Great race. I'm very happy for Bromby and Van Gool. This is a huge confidence boost for both of them. The two germans have immense upside so I'm not too worried about this one race.

On the womens side Swoboda was amazing as usual. Her fastest race in 2 years. To run a 11.15 in the finals with little wind is a great step in the right direction.

Swoboda was in a class of her own in the Final.
