The 2018 niners have the same amount of starters as at this time 2017, but with one extra man on the roster. After going 6-10 in 2017, winning their last five games with three of those against playoff teams, and losing five games by a field goal or less, the niners could be a chance at a playoff position - this will lie heavily on the shoulders of star QB Jimmy Garoppolo. The offense are definitely worth watching, aside from Jimmy G, with four pass-catchers who will get a lot of snaps in Juszczyk, Taylor, Celek, and Kittle, and three star offensive linemen in veteran Joe Staley, free agent recruit Weston Richburg, and high draft pick Mike McGlinchey. Letting go of Brandon Fusco and Zane Beadles and instead having two sumos start at guard prevents this team from reaching double-digit starters. The much-maligned Brock Coyle starts at LB after 10 starts and 64 tackles in 2017. Coyle might not be a Kuechly or Lee, but he's solid in coverage and run defense and is far from the worst starter on this defense. Cassius Marsh will hopefully get his fair share of snaps as well.

After a white-positive draft in 2017, the 49ers only drafted one white player from 9 selections in the 2018 draft which is a disappointment - this could be attributed to a draft focus on receivers and defensive backs, but they definitely had the chance to draft guys like Quinn, Watson or Apke.
