Jeff Horn

I wrote down in my little calendar book the date of this fight a while back but if you don't look at your calendar book periodically you forget about what you wrote in it. So here I am wasting time early this morning when I turn on ESPN and notice the Jeff Horn match ended a little after 7:30 EST. They showed the fight live at 6:30 and if you didn't know it was going to be on you were going to miss it that's for sure. Since when has ESPN put on live fight early in the morning? And I have no idea if they well replay it. I can't figure that out.

Horn the scrapper we love here had a test early with another white fighter Gary Corcoran and as expected they went at it full steam. But as the match went on I hear Horn just started to wear his opponent down and it was called in a later round due to too many cuts. I hope to catch the replay but I said it at the time and a few others here as well that Horn is one tough customer as he retained his welterweight WBO crown. Too many out there in the boxing world thought he was a flash in the pan. He answered that question big time.

Saw some highlights of Jeff Horn v Gary Corcoran. A real rough-up of a bout. Like watching Gene Fulmer v Carmen Basillio. Lots of head-to-head close work. Looked sloppy. Even though he won, Jeff can box better than that. He got sucked into a bit of a brawl.

The fight was two fights. The first half of the fight was very close with Horn pulling away once Corcoran slowed down and stopped throwing combinations.

Horne will have to fight the way he fought from round 7 on to have any chance to beat Crawford who is a precise combination puncher with fast hands. Horne though should have a huge strength advantage as he is a huge welterweight who can impose his size on naturally smaller men. I remember years ago Johnny Bumphus was viewed as mortal lock to beat Mad Dog Hatcher and Hatcher physically ground down Bumphus, Horne probably needs to do this to pip Crawford, similar to the Pacman fight.

The fight was replayed last night on ESPN2 last night at 9:30 PM EST. So I watched it and the early rounds were a muddle as described above but as time wore on Horn started controlling the fight with jabs and better power punches. Corcoran was just flinging punches in the latter rounds whereas Horn's shots had a purpose. Horn is a very rugged fighter. Very deceptive. People underestimate him. Then the bastards at ESPN2 changed to other programming at 10:30 right after the 8th or 9th round I can't remember exactly which one. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? What ******* at ESPN decided to pull that move? The show they put on wasn't even a live event. I find it hard to believe that ESPN was only planning on showing three quarters of the replay fight . So I never got to see the ending where Horn really starts to pour it on. I am going to try and see if I can get in touch with ESPN. BRUTAL!!

Horn vs Crawford will be one helluva fight. People forget how big The Aussie is for his weight class.
