Ok LumsdenPower, I do think Leonard can be good. I have discussed this issue with my cousin Bill, who is also one of my best friends, who is a Rutgers fan. I also have seen Leonard play via videotapes from college. I think Leonard has good speed not great for an NFL tailback (4.50) but especially good for a big man. He can make good cut backs but lacks elite shake. He has good power, not great and certainly not great for his size. He has decent vision and can certainly improve in this category as he was moved from HB to FB often in college and is new to the NFL. All in all I think Leonard would be an average starter in the NFL if given the chance.

Jesse Lumsden is faster, has better vision (for cut backs) and power and seems seems to have a quicker burst. Lumsden has about an equal ability to juke defenders in the open feild (which to me is neither's strength; both are better at outrunning you, bulling you over, or in Leonard's case going over you

). Leonard has better hands and is a little better in the passing game, but I think Lumsden has the ability to get better in this area especially since the CFL is a passing league. To me Lumsden translates to Steven Jackson in the NFL.

Sam McGuffie is another guy who could be a top 5 RB in the NFL, based on potential, (McGuffie also has LT type moves in the open field). It is still early to tell for McGuffie and he needs to improve his power.

Kyle Bell is also better than Leonard to me, b/c Bell's punishing style is off the charts. Bell has a lot of Alstott in him as far as power. I'd say Bell would be a top 10 RB in the NFL if given the chance and if he recovers from injury. Other guys I have seen, who didn't get a chance like Brock Forsey, Tre Smith, Dan Burks, are also right up there with Leonard to me. And as we know there are lots that get slotted out in college (ie. Tim Shaw) or have to play for Div. 1A or 2 (ie. Kyle Steffes, John Englebert) that I never got to scout.

I think Leonard benefited from the hype of the NY area market and helping the rebuilding of one of the worst programs in Div 1 football that happens to be a huge NJ state University. It also helped that he had his own signature move the Leonard leap and became very popular. Edited by: ToughJ.Riggins

I dont agree anyway, different opinion, same goal!

Brian Leonard is gonna prove you wrong if given the chance that he can be an elite RB in this league

In my opinion, Brian's upside is a less injury prone Brian Westbrook.Strong Receiving stats, Above average running stats. Borderline Pro-Bowler in his best years, top 15 RB in the league.

You compare a 6-2 226 pounder to a 5-8 200 pounder?

The good news is that he was replaced by Richard Owens who is a white tight end/h-back. I hate to see Hedgecock go but hopefully his replacement is an indication that Leonard is still a running back (who unfortunately isn't doing any running yet).

They just haven't updated the website yet. Hopefully he'll get picked up, but you know how that goes...

Got to play today and carried the ball 4 times for 21 yards good to see Leonard play and carry the ball. He might be used more since Steven Jackson is having a subpar year so far.

i wonder what will become of Brian in the long run. hopefully he can get enough rushes to show that he is the real deal, and either stay with Rams as featured back or eventually go somewhere else.
i am worried that he will sit on the bench for next 2 or 3 years though.

PS Don, i guess this whole thread would have to go to Rams subforum.

This thread's gotten too big to move. I don't think I can lift it.

ESPNews reports St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson (groin) is out for Week 4.

a full game for Leonard?! Cowboys are 8th in the league in rushing defense and with Rams o-line a mess i really hope that Brian can do enough to showcase his talent. this will be a tough game for him.

Well, although i never wanted it to happen, i guess you guys praying for it has made it happen, Jackson will miss the next game, Brian Leonard will get a lot of carries now. The Rams season is already over....too many injuries to overcome, hopefully Brian can play well against teh Cowboys, although there is no chance of winning.

Well it did happen, I do not think anyone is praying for someone to get injured. Jackson has been subpar this year however so maybe Leonard can provide a spark to the offense.
