Running a 4.3 40 does not always equate to fast 100 meter times. Christophe Lemaitre probably runs the same 40 yard time of 4.4, the difference is speed peaks at 50 -70 meters; some fast out of the block guys can only maintain their speed throughout, while the more natural accelerating speed guys generate more speed past the 40 yard mark and maintain it. Carl Lewis was a 4.4 40 yard guy. Also, fast 40 times in football is more power/speed then pure speed. NFL players are very strong and explosive (they exclusively train for that), that is why they also have higher standing vertical jumps than basketball players and high jumpers.

you're comparing apples to oranges, man. thus, your conclusion isn't on point. in fact, you make my point for me (see the emboldened text above).

Sansone isn't some elite long sprinter where your point would have merit. rather, his 200-meter time isn't very good, and he's only a good 100-meter guy (10.54). conversely, he's a spectacular short sprinter. he ran the fastest 55-meters EVER in Louisiana high school history (6.35).

now if you can explain how a kid with THAT kind of explosive short speed is somehow ridiculously fast at 55 meters yet rather average at 40 meters, i'd like to hear it. indoor short sprints (the 55-meters and 60-meters) favor athletes with explosive starts over guys with longer speed who perform better in the 100- and 200-. this would seem to indicate that something isn't right with all the "real" times for those affletes who populate the SEC.

so please tell me, how is it that Sansone is the fastest short sprinter ever in Louisiana high school history, yet he's really not fast enough to run a good 40 and thus not be a "real" speedster on the football field.

55 meters is about 59.5 yards. 6.35 is not super fast for that distance. Elite sprinters run 55 meters in 6.0 to 6.1. His 40 yard time makes sense in comparison to his 55 meter time. He could go faster considering his age. And yes, him being white labels him as being quick not fast, so you are right in that sense. My point is the biochemics of running, not race.

So based on this statement, Christophe Lemaitre would not be an elite sprinter, since he runs his 60-meter at 6.59. Unless somehow he is taking over 1/2 a second to log his last 5 meters.

Oh, and Jimmy, yes, the RGIII likeness is amazing:

lol! Im the Biggest Christophe Fan here. I am angry at his recent times because he should be running faster at this stage jut through experience, and he can, but his conditioning is not correct.

Anything under 6.65 in the 60 meters is elite; I dont know Christophe's 55 meter time, but I would assume around 6.2 -6.25...

The whole point of this topic was that 40 yard dash times does not prove succes in the 100 meters. Bolt ran 4.28 in the 40 yard dash with a slight wind at his back, fast track, when he ran 9.58. Chris Johnson who ran 4.24 40 yards indoors, would be smoked in the dust and wont even break 10.05 in the 100.

Pure speed is between 50 -80 meters. Guys like Bolt, and Christophe accelerate in this phase. Morne Nagle ran 6.45 in the 60 and never broke 10, then went downhill. And he was built for power.

Lemaitre is the most natural of all the sprinters but his talents are not being utilized to the fullest, because his training is wrong; I can tell by his build. No evidence of muscle power in the shoulder/ upper torso area, and underdeveloped hip flexors.

What is holding Christophe back is his power at the 1st 20-30 meters. He is not strong, and he is not training the way he should be. Caraz is a good coach but not a conditioning coach. He has him doing the basics when he should think out of the box.

In the race between Clarke and Christophe, where Clarke ran 6.50 and Christophe ran 6.57, Christophe ran a faster 50-60 meters.

Not to nitpick, but he wasn't even the fastest this year. This guy's already a burner, so we don't really have to pad numbers to cement his legacy.

A couple of guys ran a 6.31 and 6.34 in '09, and a couple ran a 6.25, and a 6.31 this year.

The numbers don't always coorelate. Justin Gatlin, has two 6.15 55M's this year. At the Tennessee Titan's Pro Day in 2008, a juiced out of his gourd Justin ran a 4.45 and a 4.42.

Also, forgot to add, that kid Marvin Bracy out of Orlando ran a 6.08 55M last month. He only (only probably should be in quotes) runs a 4.32 40Y.

I don't think estimating Trevor's 40Y at only .08 slower than Marvin's is all that bad considering his actual 55M is .27 slower.

i'm not actually padding anything. i took the information directly from his LSU player profile on their website.

you make a good point, but something just seems off. i'm not a track afficianado, but still it's a head scratcher to me. based on Sansone's performances on the track, it seems like he's more of an explosive starter than he is a long sprinter.

but, the bottom line is most of these 40 times affletes post are completely ridiculous. having seen guys who "run a 4.4" actually post a 4.6 or 4.7 on the stopwatch, i know this to be true. *shrug*

Macy Manning - all around excellence

we'll likely never talk about her as an elite-level hurdler, but Macy Manning (class of 2013) of Fayetteville (AR) High embodies the all-around excellence that make White people so great. she is also a terrific example of what Zeus routinely talks about here on the forums: there are far more important things in life than just being a good straight-line sprinter ...

Manning finished her high school career as the #1-ranked student in a class of 605. she also finished #1 in the state four times on the track, despite not beginning to compete in track until ninth grade. she won one indoor and three outdoor titles, including Class 7A State Championships in the 100- and 300-hurdles and the 400-meter relay (twice) and twice winning the 400-meter relay at the Meet of Champs. oh! did i mention she set the state record in the 60-meter hurdles? well, she did.

and just for added all-around excellence, Manning also captained Fayetteville's cheerleading team to two State Championships AND scored a perfect 36 on her ACT.

she'll be running track at Princeton (having turned down scholarship offers from Arkansas and Stanford among other schools), where she'll also be going pre-med and having already made the cheerleading squad.

i'd say that's more impressive than shaving a few tenths off her sprint time. wouldn't you?

40yard

40 yrd times , no real co-relation to track times of that of sprinters .... sprinter times are looked at in 10 meter segments:peace: over 100 meters ...but 40yrd times may indicate sprinting potential ..pending on body development ..ie a 16 yr old who can do a 4.4 at 150lbs rather then a college player at 180lbs lbs who runs a 4.4 ....obviously the 16yr old has potential as a sprinter ....

note .

Here's an article on Nick Hough, a 19yr old sprinter from Australia.
He's not quite world class yet, but hopefully he's on his way.
Let's keep an eye on him.
http://www.smh.com.au/sport/athletics/sprinter-homes-in-on-world-championships-20130210-2e6jn.html

firstly good find jacknyc .....hope hough can make it.....but reading the piece it makes one irritated to see him talk about the "genetic " dominance of the yamaicans .....long gone are the days of matt shirvington ...shows you why the aussies are a long way a way from a world class white sprinter over 100m with such a lack of coaching knowledge and with the like of sally pearson ....luckily soloman is a much more confident individual who doesnt buy into the race rubbish ......

We have to make a new list of some of these new young guns from around the globe.

Marcus Lawler is another one. He is from Ireland and only 18 years of age. We have briefly talked about him before.

He recently set a new national junior record in the 100 running a time of 10.38! He also holds the Irish Junior National 60 and 200
meters record too. This kid is very talented.

There are so many names to try and keep track of. Very exctiting times.

I think we are continuing to see the "Lemaitre Effect" in sprinting. I hope this continues and that it snowballs into an avalanche of
young sprinters both male and female from around the globe. Screw the damn stereotypes!:becky:

This is really great. I hadn't heard much about her till now. For Katarina Sivkova to break Privalovas Junior Record three times is flat out amazing. Irina Privalova is still the fastest women ever to run the 60 meters in the history of the world! Hope this girl can follow in her footsteps!

Marcus Lawler of Ireland is really tearing it up. He just broke the Irish Junior Outdoor 200 meters Nat'l Record running a 20.87 into a
negative 1.9 wind. Just think how fast he could have went with no wind or a positive wind. Amazing strength by the young lad!

A kid that I don't think we've mentioned before is Zack Bilderback of Univ. of Texas.
He is a freshman with a best time of 46.10 in the 400m.
He had done well as a high schooler, but now has dropped his times considerably.
He will be competing this weekend at the NCAA Championships. I hope the competition can drop his times into the 45s.

High schoolers Zach Johnson (Piedra Vista, NM) and Alex Mead (Mead, CO) both just ran a windy 10.49 last week in the final of the Great Southwest Classic at the University of New Mexico. They were lined up against the fastest black high schooler in the country, Trayvon Bromell. Bromell ran a windy 9.99 (he has a PB of 10.27).

Johnson set the New Mexico high school record in the 200-meters this year (21.53).

zachjohnsonpiedravista_zps83fe4dab.jpg

************************

High Schooler Tommy Grant (Penn, IN) broke a 59-year-old record in the 100-meters at the Section Finals a few weeks ago, running the 100 in 10.53 (with no wind indicated). He also led his 4x100 relay team to the Sectional title in 42.12, but aggravated his hamstring and was unable to run in his best event, the 200.

So where does one of the 25 fastest sprinters in the nation sign a scholarship to run collegiate track? Bethel College.

It’s in Mishawaka, IN if you didn’t know … I didn’t. I’d never even heard of the place.

The Europeans are coming. European teenage sprinters are setting records across Europe over 100 & 200 meters. I can't believe how many new national junior records we have already seen over 100 meters and its only June. This bodes very well for the future. Some of these kids will take it toe next level. Not all of them but hopefully more than half or 2/3. We need a changing of the guard in the sprints because many of our guys have not taken it to the next level as seniors so bring on the youth movement. We will have so many guys to follow from around the globe. Here is a quick European juniors top list so far this summer and it's very early in the year. All of the guys who have NJR next to their time stands for new national junior record! There are quite a few.

Another young sprinter to add to the Watch list is Seren Bundy-Davies, a 20 yr old Welsh 400m sprinter.
She has come out of nowhere this season to run the 2nd fastest 400m time in the world (now #3), and fastest time in Europe.
She beat the World Indoor Champion, Francena McCrory, in Birmingham earlier this year.
She's feeling confident going into the Euro Indoor Championships this week.
Here's an article about her:
