Christophe runs a time of 10.00 seconds flat to finish 3rd behind Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell. I'm so proud of him. He actually was very close to being with Bolt stride for stride for a good part of the race. It's his start which is where they pull ahead by the little margins that they win by. He only lost to Bolt by 9/100ths of a second. Outstanding form for Christophe this early in the year.

You also have to remember that he was lined up right beside Bolt. Talk about intimidating but it didn't phase him a bit. He is maturing and growing as a world class sprinter. Christophe beat alot of really other good sprinters. This race should give him even more confidence moving forward. He has ice in his veins. What a stud. He will beat both Powell and Bolt one of these days. Believe it Christophe. Your top end speed is right there with them. Just keep working on the starts and drive phase. What a race!

Barring injury he should break 9.9 this season and will probably get down into the 9.8mid world.

Thanks for posting his quotes Twinsen9. He loves the 100 and I think he would prefer to stay at the distance as his primary event. His coach and advisors need to realise this. I like seeing him run the 200 but only as long as he stays primarily in the main event. There are very few titles in the world like the Worlds Fastest Man. I believe Christophe can become the fastest sprinter in the world within the next 4-6 years. What a race!

Exactly how I saw it, CL had his most complete race ever.

He had a great start (when compared to his efforts from last year), he came up about 4th behind 3 of the best starters in the world and his first 3-5 steps were pretty good.

His drive phase needs some more work as his body position is not yet totally perfect but all in all a good effort .

He was with Bolt and Powell for much of the first 50-60 until Powell excelarated mid race and left both Bolt and CL.

Bolt maintained his speed best of the 3 and pulled away from CL and caught Powell on the line.

Btw if he had the max wind of 2 m/s he would have run around 9.93.
He will so go 9.8 this year.

From 30 to 100m i think CL actually gained on Powell - the third fastest man ever who has run 9.85 or better over 20 times.

I hope he changes his mind. If not, I would be very dissapointed. Even if he won the gold, I still think the 100 is the King of All Events.
He migh change his mind until then, depending on his own results, and on his competitors results. If next year he thinks he can get a medal on 100m, he will run for sure. We'll see after Daegu's world chiampionship, where he will run both races
Until he gets better at running the turn his best event is the century. Now if he learns to how to run the bend his best event should be the deuce due to his build and speed endurance. I think this is just talk to relieve pressure from the French press and public. Edited by: white is right

Christophe (again to Orange Sport) : "C'est la première fois que je me sens si près d'eux. Je suis même déçu de ne faire que 10''00".

My translation : "It's the first timeI'm feel so close to them. I am even disappointed do only 10''00"</span>

I said it before and I will say it again. Christophe will run in the high 9.80's before the summer is over. The guy is just born to run. He is amazing to watch. I only hope he can inspire some other white sprinters to step up their game soon. With Lemaitre, the sky is the limit!

I guess all that strenuous off season training is finally paying off. The key is to NOT over train, as I'm beginning to understand about sprinting. To run 10.0 is just mid season is already impressive, he'll certainly crack the the LOWER 9.90's or upper 9.80's by seasons end.

If Lemaitre is fortunate enough to avoid any serious injuries (like Nowitzki), he could remain a high level sprinter for the next 10 years.

Its around the middle to the end of June. The season peaks out in August and they have some big money meets in September and the rare one October but the major meets are in the end of August or the first week in September.

Excellent race of Lemaitre, was cool watch it.
Although i see very hard that this season he can down 9.9.
Only if he has very good race(reaction time, first 30m,...) and with wind +1.5 minimum.
If he can run in Daegu in low 9.9(very possible) he get final and perhaps 4th or 5th place.
I see very very hard get bronze(Bolt and Gay are very far in my opinion and Asafa if run well is very hard too)

He said his goal is to reach the final. Almost impossible to get a medal, with Bolt, Gay and powel on the track

Having Bolt start his season so poorly (for him) was huge. Based on his comments, LeMaitre's confidence has just gone through the roof, because neither Bolt nor Powell could leave him in the dust yesterday. Now LeMaitre feels like he belongs.
