I heard one of the announcers mention that Herring had a great camp and he was in a situation to see a lot of PT this year. He went on to say he had a nose for the ball and great athleticism.

ESPNs take on the Lawrence Jackson trade:

Player News (last updated: August 18, 2010)
News: The Seahawks traded Jackson to Detroit in exchange for an undisclosed 2011 draft pick, the Seattle Post Intelligencer reports.
Spin: The Seahawks reached for Jackson in the first round of the 2008 draft, and he failed to show much on the field, totaling 6.5 sacks in two years. He doesn't stand a chance of starting in Detroit, but he should earn a decent amount of time as a rotational player. His arrival comes at the expense of players like Jared DeVries, Willie Young and Jason Hunter.

It's like musical chairs.. affirmative action style.

Concerning the Quinn Pitcock ethnicity mystery, he was born in Piqua, Ohio which is about 95% white. He was out of the NFL due to personal reasons, was holed up in his apartment for awhile and was addicted to video games. Looks like he is getting his life on track, and hopefully will make the team, but I'm not sure about his chances.

And the beat goes on... From Rotoworld:

Seahawks waived WR Kole Heckendorf, K Clint Stitser, and OG Gregg Peat.
<div ="s_pNewsTextMain">
Pass-rushing prospect Ricky Foley went earlier in the day, so Seattle's
roster is now down to 76. Heckendorf, Stitser, and Peat were all big
long shots.

Caste Football Looks at the 2010 Seattle Seahawks

by Foobar75

The 2010 Seattle Seahawks are beginning a new regime under former USC and New England coach Pete Carroll. It's hard to believe that in his first season, Carroll's team looks even blacker than those of his predecessors, noted caste clowns Jim Mora ('09) and Mike Holmgren. The cupboard is almost entirely bare in Seattle, with zero White defensive starters, no white players in any of the skill positions on offense with the exception of TE John Carlson, and of course the customary white players occupying the positions of K/P/LS on special teams.

There are only 4 white starters on offense. Matt Hasselbeck starts at QB, a capable veteran who has been somewhat slowed by age and injuries, some of which are no doubt the result of horrendous offensive line play over the past 3 seasons courtesy of a majority black unit up front. That trend stays intact for 2010, as only 2 whites are starting on the offensive line. Evan Deitrich-Smith is expected to start in place of Max Unger at RG, who has been put on the IR after a Week 1 injury. Mike Gibson occupies the opposite guard spot.

John Carlson begins his 3rd year in the NFL as the starting TE, and is the lone bright spot on offense. After an impressive rookie season in 2008 in which he started 9 games and caught a team leading 5 TDs with 55 receptions for 627 yards, Carlson followed up with another impressive campaign in 2009. He started all 16 games, set the club record for tight ends with 7 TDs, which was also tops on the team. John Carlson is a solid all-around TE, equally skilled as a receiver and blocker. He should be one of Matt Hasselbeck's main weapons on offense during the 2010 season.

Following the retirement of perennial pro-bowler Patrick Kerney, as well as the release of talented DLs Nick Reed and Craig Terill this year, there are only 2 White defensive players left on the entire roster. They are back-up LBs Will Herring and Matt McCoy. Herring is a regular contributor on special teams who also sees the field on certain passing downs as an outside linebacker.

Here's a full break-down of the roster:

Just to throw everyone off guard, the Seahawks grap an offensive tackle, Giacometti, and Brandon Stokely in one day.

Good for Stokley! The Seahawks finally coming to their senses seeing the all the white boys tearing it up around the league for the past3 weeks...they are saying "we got to have one of those"...the 49ers should go get Haas!

The Seahawks start four sumos on the o-line and due to their inability to block Carlsons' receiving numbers have gone down hill. He's been forced to help block.

John Carlson was used mostly as a blocker in Sunday's loss to the Giants.
<div>
This is how Carlson has gone from a young, promising tight end to a
fantasy afterthought. The Seahawks' patchwork offensive line constantly
needs help and Carlson is asked to stay in on passing downs. He has just
nine catches in his last five games.

I've noticed Brent Celek blocking more this season, too, as the Eagles are another team with apoor sumo-dominated line.

Carlson is on pace to catch around 40 balls this year, which would be significantly less than the 51 receptions he had last year. Celek is on pace for similar numbers and that's even more frustrating because last season he was easily a top five tight end. He came within a reception or two of 1,000 yards and this season he may not even hit 500 yards for the season. His production has basically been cut in half.

Yep, Celek and Carlson should be used like Dallas Clark but aren't. Zach Miller in Oakland could be an 80 to 100 reception guy, but he's had the likes of DuhMarcus and Jason Campbell throwing to him most of his career. Hopefully Gradkowski will start again when he's healthy, as Tom Cable has said he will, and will utilize Miller more.

Pete Carroll told Mike Hass to take a hike, but then look at this. Dwayne Jarrett and Bobby Engram!!??? It'd be funny if it wasn't also almosta crime that the NFL can get away with its blatant racial spoils system, knowing that no one will call them on it but us:

The Seahawks worked out free agent WRs Dwayne Jarrett and Bobby Engram Tuesday. It's the first workout for each since they were released by their former teams. Both names are interesting, as Jarrett played for coach Pete Carroll at USC and Engram, of course, has played in Seattle for the majority of his career. Carroll has turned Mike Williams' career around, so we suppose we can't rule out him doing the same for Jarrett. Neither player was immediately signed.

Here is a good one. From Gayworld

Felony drug possession charges against former Seahawks S Kevin Ellison have been dropped.
<div>
Ellison was arrested last May for possession of 100 Vicodin pills. The
Chargers' 2009 sixth-round pick fell out of the league after being cut
by Seattle coming out of preseason action. He should get a look-see from
another team this summer.
</div></td></tr></t></table>

Am I missing something here? Is there a reason the charges were dropped? Another gift for an afflete.

It will be interesting to see if Brandon Stokely is allowed to play on the Seahawks next season, after becoming Hasselback's go to guy in the playoffs. Also, whether the sumo offensive line experiment continues.

Dropped balls cost the Seahawks this game. I lost count.
