The Jazz are starting the season without Carlos Boozer, who has been placed on the inactive list due to a hamstring injury. It is no real surprise that even though he has only been playing for 3 years, he is the highest paid of the Jazz. In spite of him being sidelined, the Jazz are being heralded as a possible surprise team this year. We will see, but they will probably start 4 whites against the Mavericks tomorrow night. Mehmet Okur, Greg Ostertag, Andrei Kirilenko, and Gordan Giricek. I wonder if the Jazz are still the whitest team in the league? They were last year.Edited by: Colonel_Reb

Caste Football's yearly survey of the "demographics" of each NBA team is on the homepage.

The Jazz have narrowed their roster to 15 now, and they have 5 whites on it, four of whom are starting tonight against Dallas.Edited by: Colonel_Reb

Has Ostertag been in the league for like 300 years now? I hope Boozer gets sicker and stays out the rest of the year and gets suspended for steroid use, thusly voiding his contract. What a sellout punk bitch.

Reb, the number is actually 5 whites on their roster. If you are counting Kris Humphries as white, his father is African-American. However some on this web site would count him as white.

Nope, I had no clue about Humphries. I wouldn't count him either. They really have had a drop off then. I wonder if there any rosters that are half white this year, seems like there were 2 last year.Edited by: Colonel_Reb

Ostertag has had a good ride. Kansas has a way of producing white centers that manage to keep themselves employed in the NBA for about a decade. Ostertag, Greg Dreiling, Paul Mokeski.

There are no majority white rosters this year.

I didn't know that about Humphries either. You can see it in some of his pictures but not in others:

This guy is like Grady Sizemore from the Indians, so white looking, that unless you know it specifically, you couldn't tell he wasn't fully white. I have known this one buddy of mine for like 8 years, and until like last month I had no clue he was half black.

Maybe he's adopted? If I was a black man and and my wife bore a son like that I would have a lot of questions for her.

Can anyone point to a specific article, etc., that mentions Kris Humphries and/or Grady Sizemore being half-black? The only place I have seen either guy referenced as being half-black is on this site, without any specific cites given.

The government should make cards to wear around our necks so we know eachothers race. [note: I am kidding]

You can tell that Humphries is part black by his features. Look at his hair, nostrils, ears, etc. I wouldn't go as far as to say he is half black. The average black in this country has about 20% European ancestry.

humphries is a quarter black or less. he'll be a career bench player though. i figure it doesn't matter much what he is.

the jazz started 3 white players and 1 turk last night. that was something. i also saw them have 5 white players on the floor at once last year.

It was a fun game to watch last night. Greg did have a good game. I could see Humphries on the bench, and I could tell he is partly black. It was good to see white guys dominate a game like last night's, although that rookie Williams for Utah had a good night off the bench.

AK47 had 10 boards and 6 blocks. Excellent! Love that guy.

Humphries' dad is a former collegiate football player (Minnesota I think.) I've seen him and he's black. We did find an article that mentioned that Humphries was "African American." I think that was on the old board.

Actually, Humphries' hair is one thing that made me doubt that he was part-black. The hair is usally a dead giveaway in identifying someone as part-black (Jason Kidd, Mike Bibby, Derek Jeter, etc.). Humphries' hair is straight, though -- he looks like any white guy with short hair. And I've seen white guys with more "suspect" nostrils and ears than Humphries. Still, he's got to be the least-black looking "black" guy I've ever seen. I wouldn't even classify him as "black." Wouldn't classify him as "white," either. Not sure WHAT to call him, frankly... It's very strange.

JD, how black-looking would you say Humphries' dad is? One problem is that, due to the one-drop rule, people are declared as "half-black" without taking into consideration how "black" the parent is. Tiger Woods is one example -- Earl Woods is only half-black, I believe, yet he is always identified as "black" in the media. If Kordell Stewart had a kid with a white wife, there's no chance he would look anything like Humphries. But if Colin Powell had a kid with a white wife, the result might look something like Humphries, I think. Yet both Kordell Stewart and Colin Powell are identified as "black" in the media.Edited by: StaleyWasScrewd

I agree. With that one well-lit photo above, his hair looks brown and straight.

My memory is that he was an average looking, middle aged black guy. "Medium complexion," or somewhere between an African and Colin Powell. I was watching a pre-game show for a pre-season game before last season, and they were talking about Humphries, mentioned that his dad is a former football player, and showed him very briefly, just a few seconds. My only recollection is that he was clearly black.

Also, I just did a google search and his mom was a collegiate rower. No wonder. I wouldn't doubt if she's very fair skinned and fair haired, given how "white-looking" her son is. I bet she was a tall, fit, attractive blonde in her day. Shame.

Well, Utah is 5-7, but they beat Milwaukee last night 100-80 to stop a 5 game losing streak. There were 4 whites on the floor quite a bit last night. Carlos Boozer will be out another month with his injury, so maybe these guys will get it together and start winning more.

One thing to remember is that Andrei Kirilenko (AK 47) has been out for a week, with him they'd probably have won one or two more.

Matt Harpring has been having problems with his knee as well. But on the bright side, Okur and Giricek have been playing well and Ostertag hasn't looked bad either. Okur must be from northern Turkey because he looks pretty white. They've won two in a row and I think they will be fine once they get AK back as long as Boozer doesn't come back and cut into everyones minutes and shots. Maybe they will trade him for another point guard. Its too bad they couldn't land Sarunas J. from Lithuania. He would have been a perfect fit for them ,and now he's only getting 17 minutes a game in Indiana.

Utah forward Andrei Kirilenko expects to return next week from a sprained ankle that has kept him out of the last seven games.

AK47 could be an MVP candidate if he could just stay healthy. He should pig out on some steaks or something.

He was actually very durable before last season. He only missed 6 games his first three years (yeah, I just looked it up.

) Last year's injuries were due to accidents- stepped on someone's foot and sprained his knee, and he was pushed while he was up in the air, broke his wrist on the way down. I assume he rolled his ankle or stepped on someone's foot this year. So I don't think those are as bad as the "wear and tear" type of injuries. At any rate, he's my favorite basketball player, so I definitely want him healthy, too!

The Jazz had a big win over Detroit (New Fallujah) last night. Maybe the Jazz can get a winning streak going and establish some consistency.

Utah is losing a big game to Denver. They are battling for the top of their division, and it looks like Denver wants it more, at least right now. Utah started 4 whites tonight. Maybe they will win a few more soon and get in the lead of their division. If they lose this one, they will be 20-20, and a game and a half back.
