I agree with you FastEuro. I'm in awe of the talent at such a young age. Very rare in any sprinter to make a World Championships Final in the 200 as a teenager. Again I repeat that Herring was so close. If he would have only ran the curve better, he would have been there as well. He was too tentative on the turn and it cost him. He will learn and he will be back. I keep mentioning him because after Lemaitre & Guliyev, he is the 3rd best hope for the future. I want him to get the credit he deserves.
Rocket Ramil made us proud today. Nothing that could happen tommorow would take away from making the final. He has proved he is world class. He will only get better. I for one will be in London, England to watch these guys in 2012! We have made the medal stand in the Junior Competitions for years. Time to do it at the senior level.

the myththat "White men can't jump" continues to be obliterated by anyone who cares about the truth ... unless i'm mistaken, of the 8 finalists in the men's high jump, there are only 2 blacks.

Ah...there are white Americans running the 800 and beyond. It's very rare to find a black American running anything more than 800m. They really aren't made for it. They are too heavy/muscular which is great for the sprints but small and scrawny like the Kenyans is key for distances.
Today was a typical day at the world championships...Three giant Euros swept the Discus medals....three tiny north African swept the 1500m...two 35 yr old Jamaicans with past steroid convictions won the 110m hurdles...and some kind of she/male won the 800m women's gold medal....Once again it's a science/biology class

Jamaica is as guilty as can be. Eat yams and run fast. If it was that easy, everyone would be doing it. What a joke.
I hate to say it but I have a bad feeling about Ramil tommorow night. He is in flippin lane one. How much does that suck. It reminds me of when Unger made the 200 Meters Olympics Final in Athens. He had the same lane one. You just cannot judge where everyone is at. It is very hard to medal from an inside or outside lane. I hate to say it but he did it to himself. They put you there according to your qualifying times and he just didn't run hard enough. I'm still proud of him and hoping for the best. Lane 1 is better than lane 8 at least. I will try to remain positive. Usually I am but it has been frustrating seeing our athletes struggle in these champs. Come on Ramil. Show them why we call you Rocket Man Ramil. Hardee sits in 3rd place (4511 pts) after day 1. Diaz from Cuba ran out of his mind to a 46.15 in the 400m to move him one point (4512 pts) above Hardee in 2nd place. Kasyanov of Ukraine is having a great meet and leads with 4555 pts.

I disagree. Bolt is in lane 5, and the worst spots are lanes 6-8, who will have lost their stagger to Bolt quite early. Lane 1,2,3, and 4 are by far the best lanes. Also, Ramil is less likely to step out of his lane in lane 1. Not to mention not knowing where you are compared to evryone else could motivate Ramil to sprint the first 100. I expect a sub 20, and possibly a medal.
Gillick is in lane 2. Not bad at all. Wariner has lane 6. He won't be able to jusdge where Merritt is, but that is still a good lane.

Most sprinters will tell you that lanes 3,4,5 and 6 are the preferred lanes. How many medals in any even are won in lane 1? Not too many. Lanes 7 & 8 are the worst because you are running blind. You can't see anyone. At least in lane 1 you can see some of the competitors but it's hard to judge where they are at. It's also hard to judge where you are at sometimes. It can be done though. Macrozonaris ran his 10.03 in the 100 out of lane 1. The 200 is alot harder but still possible. I am rooting for a sub 20 but I predict he will run around a 20.10 time. I hope your right my friend. A sub 20 and a possible medal would be awesome!
Wariner and Gillick need to have a p.b. for this season to guarantee a medal tommorow. So many guys ran in the 44 second range. Alot of high level competition in this race. Too bad the Borlee brother who ran in the high 44 second range earlier didn't compete. He is the better of the two twins so far.

Two members of the 2008 Jamaican Olympic track team received shipments of performance-enhancing drugs through an Internet distribution network, according to documents obtained by SI.
The documents state that between June 2006 and February 2007, two shipments of Somatropin (Human Growth Hormone, HGH) and one shipment of Triest (Estrogen) were sent to Delloreen London, at a Texas address that traces to the athlete Delloreen Ennis-London; the birth date on the document matches the athlete's as well, though the document lists the person's gender as male. Ennis-London, 33, is a Jamaican hurdler who won the silver medal in the 100-meter hurdles at the 2005 World Championships. In Beijing, she finished fifth in the event, but came within .01 of taking bronze. Though the information only pertains to receipt and not actual use of performance-enhancers, both drugs are banned for Olympic athletes.
The documents also indicate that in November 2006, a shipment of Testosterone, Testosterone Aqueous, and Oxandrolone (an oral steroid) were sent to Adrian Findlay, an alternate on the Jamaican Olympic team in the 400-meter hurdles. The drugs were sent to a North Carolina address that traces to Findlay; the birth date on the document matches the athlete's as well. Findlay, 25, was also a member of the Jamaican team that placed second in the 4x400 meter relays at the 2008 World Indoor Championships. Findlay attended St. Augustine's College in Raleigh, N.C.
Multiple attempts to reach Ennis-London through a variety of contacts, family members and organizations were unsuccessful. Ennis-London's husband, Lincoln, said Tuesday that his wife was racing in Switzerland and unreachable, but he confirmed she had ordered the drugs in June 2006 after consulting a physician over the phone about vaginal hemorrhaging she was experiencing. He said the shipment arrived when she was away at a competition and that she never opened the package. He added that the 2007 package arrived unsolicited and also was never opened. (Editor's note: Ennis-London was victorious in Switzerland on Tuesday, defeated Beijing gold medalist Dawn Harper of the U.S. with a time of 12.60.)
Reached Tuesday in North Carolina, Findlay forcefully denied the allegations. "I've been running stable all my life," he said. "Trust me, I don't use steroids. I guarantee you it wasn't mine and I didn't order it. I have a theory how this was sent."
The prescriptions written in the name of Delloreen London were reportedly obtained through the Anti-Aging Group, a network of clinics that advertise HGH and testosterone treatments on its Web site. According to the document reviewed by SI.com, the prescribing physician was Victor Shabanah. On his Web site, Shabanah advertises himself as a "hormone therapist."
Reached through the Anti-Aging Group in Miami, Dr. Shabanah asserted, "Make an appointment if you want to see me," before abruptly ending the call.
Findlay's prescription was reportedly obtained through the South Beach Rejuvenation clinic, a Florida facility through which Major League baseball outfielder Jay Gibbons, who was suspended by Major League baseball last December for violating the league's drug policy, received banned performance-enhancing drugs. According to the document, the prescribing physician was Daniel J. Hauser of Hollywood, Fla. Hauser did not return calls seeking his comment left at a home number and through South Beach Rejuvenation.

I agree, lane 1 has to run the entire curve, which is also tighter. It takes a lot of upper body and core strength to maintain sprinting form to run a fast curve. Anyone who has run the 200m will agree with me. Centrifugal force is pushing your body outward, so your upper body must overcome this force to generate speed. Guliyev is young and hasn't developed the upper body strength he needs to run a fast curve from lane 1. Let's hope that I am wrong.
Personally, I always liked running from lanes 5,6,7 because the curve is less and if I made up the stagger on lane 8 early on, it gave me confidence on the straight (the old theory that it is easier to win when you are leading the race than trying to catch up).Edited by: SteveB

Rocket being in lane one blows! I think I would rather be in lane 8 with less of a curve. I don't think he will medal, the best we can hope for is a PB. its going to be tough.
JW looked really good today, but him being a rabbit for Merritt might hurt him. I truthfuly feel him and Hart got something up thier sleeves. we may see JW win this thing in a mid 43 time. its going to be interesting.
According to the U.S. sports media, Harting would be considered "soft", "hard working overachiever", or "competes with a high motor". Anything but athletic. You decide.

The lane draws aren't all that important in the 200m, certainly not as important as the 400m, you just pretty much run your own race in 200m anyway, especially in the final. I don't really see Guliyev medaling in the 200m, he just seems kind of jaded to me, perhaps he has run too much this year or maybe it is the expectation but he seemed to really struggle at the end of the semi final.
yeah it was a great final, him vs Malachowski (who deserved to win, i mean he lead all throughout and then the very last throw was the one that Hering won with, and the only one that beat not one but two of Malachowski's best throws... not fair!).
they both beat the absolute legend, Gerd Kanter. it's worth noticing that Malachowski was throwing with an injured index finger.
overall i am very happy with the way Poland's been performing. gold and silver in ladies pole vault (beating the russian super star), and three medals in male strength competitions: Ziolkowski in hammer, Majewski in shot put and of course the aforementioned Malachowski. with a bit better luck Poland would be third in the medal table!
they both beat the absolute legend, Gerd Kanter. it's worth noticing that Malachowski was throwing with an injured index finger.
overall i am very happy with the way Poland's been performing. gold and silver in ladies pole vault (beating the russian super star), and three medals in male strength competitions: Ziolkowski in hammer, Majewski in shot put and of course the aforementioned Malachowski. with a bit better luck Poland would be third in the medal table!

I think Mike Myers in Austin Powers said it best "it's a man, baby!". does anyone remember Stella Walsh? probably the most famous gender offender of all time. she was the first women to break 11 in the 100m, and during her autopsy they found wiener & balls. look her up its a interesting story.

actually, though, if you want to see me in my element ... get me talking about basketball.
it's harder to quantify different aspects of a basketball player's skill/talent set, however. as such, football makes a much better sport to point out the blatancy of the caste system.
but i must admit, track and field is great! it's just a shame there is so much doping involved ... it reminds me of something else i used to be involved in a little bit: horse racing.
much like modern sprinting, in horse racing all the athletes (in this case horses) are very talented. but the winners are usually determined by who has the best vet ... and therefore the best "vitamins."
