Seems I owe you an apology. I actually thought you were being overly dramatic, but then today a black man won gold in the javelin for the first time! I am slightly annoyed about the sprints, commentators go on about the Jamaicans as if it is expected that they should dominate the sprints, but...

Christophe Lemaitre "White Lightning" 9.92 and 19.80!

I'm with you on the fact that promoting white sprinters and achievements shouldn't be done at the expense of other races, it isn't and shouldn't be about superiority and inferiority but about pride in one's race, heritage and culture. However I don't believe what he said was racist...

Christophe Lemaitre "White Lightning" 9.92 and 19.80!

Interesting read. I have to admit when I saw Lemaitre in the semi final I knew he wouldn't have much chance. I've never seen Lemaitre level with someone coming off the bend and not pass him. This is the man that in Daegu was closing down Dix and Bolt! Yet he couldn't get past Spearmon, who isn't...

Harold, I may be reading too much into your posts, but you seem quite cross about something? Did you see the short film before the 200m on the BBC, discussing white sprinting and its decline? And why black sprinters dominate, possibly due to eugenics? It was quite interesting. Especially as...

Adam Gemeli World 100 Meters Junior Champion (10.05)

Sorry Francois, I didn't make that very clear. Jonathan Edwards and Colin Jackson were talking about Christophe Lemaitre being the first white man to break 10s. I made it sound like Edwards was talking about himself but he wasn't. Neither of them got anywhere near the 10s barrier themselves...

Adam Gemeli World 100 Meters Junior Champion (10.05)

Actually I have just remembered that there was a discussion of it on the BBC at the Paris Diamond league about a week after Lemaitre broke 10s. Jonathan Edwards and Colin Jackson spoke about it briefly, specifically mentioning that he was the first white man to go under 10s, with Edwards even...

Adam Gemeli World 100 Meters Junior Champion (10.05)

I disagree, the UK papers didn't barely mention him, bar one - The Daily Mail - and that was a small story. But they did mention him being the fastest white man. The BBC didn't mention him at all, and as far as I remember the IAAF didn't mention him being the first white man to break 10s.

Adam Gemeli World 100 Meters Junior Champion (10.05)

I agree about Lewis Francis (too fast too soon and it went to his head) and somewhat about Pickering. I've been saying for some time that Pickering's best is behind him, and I honestly don't think he has the mental stamina or the latent speed to be a top UK sprinter. However last year he ran his...

    Craig Pickering

I know what jacknyc is saying, and a year ago I may have agreed with him, but after seeing that interview last year where he was complaining about not being in the A race and not being in the relay team ("for whatever reason" - his words) it demonstrated a little steel and fire in him. I think...

    Craig Pickering

Was a little surprised by Pickering's form in that race, especially considering his awful start and also by the interview afterwards. He was quite angry, as gulf 177 said, saying that there were people in the A race that he'd beaten, and that he should have been in it! On times he certainly...

2009 World Championship of Track & Field

Shamefully, it was the British team that complained and had them disqualified, very unsportsmanlike and not very British at all. Perhaps this new found ruthlessness comes from Charles van Commenee, who doesn't realise that snitching is simply not cricket.

She won in Beijing too, with a slightly slower time. Don't be too sure, he's been commentating for the BBC, and was saying that he thinks Bolt can break 19s. He also said that he think Bolt will step up to the 400m at some point, as there is no competition for him at the 100/200m. This may...

Thank god Semenya didn't do something similar.

2009 World Championship of Track & Field

Me too and won't believe otherwise until she has kids. Semenya certainly isn't the first attempt to get a man into the women's events, nor will it be the last. I am also sceptical about Al Gassra of Bahrain. The lane draws aren't all that important in the 200m, certainly not as important as...

2009 World Championship of Track & Field

To be fair Wells didn't start sprinting until he was 24/5, so who knows how fast he would have run had he started earlier and been running at 19 or 20. Edited by: charlie180
