6'-5" Rookie sharp shooter from Lipscomb ....Garrison Matthews - Wizards had a career high 28 points(4 for 7 from three) in 29 minutes off the bench (15 pts in 2nd qtr) ....team mates in Locker room greeted him with champagne spraying after the game! 123 -105 win vs. Heat

I wonder if they recently brought him up. Never heard of him before tonight. Thanks for posting this.

I saw that as well. I remember him from last year when Lipscomb made a run to the finals of the NIT. Undrafted and on a 2-way G-league contract. So he won’t be around much, but good for him to make a splash.

I don't know how Pat Connaughton is not getting more playing time. I think he is the most explosive leaper in the NBA and can shoot the three ball. I know Shadowlight has mentioned him several times and I just wanted to agree that he is playing the best I've seen him play in two years. The Bucs and Mavs are about the only teams I watch in the NBA.

Luka appears to be on his way to yet another
30 + point triple double night. He’s basically doing to basketball what CMAC did to the NFL.

it will be interesting to see if he starts in the all star game. TPTB somehow managed to keep greats like Bird, Dirk and Stockton from doing this most years.

Luka "Magic" Doncia with another triple double in a close loss. He just missed scoring 40 pts again but was still sensational in every way! :)

Not a double post. Luka with yet another triple double tonight. Scoring 38 points along the way. Jokic had 47 points. Too many good performances tonight to list them all. Just a really good night for Euro honkey bball.

The Pistons upset the Celtics and Svi might have had his career game scoring 21 on 6-9 shooting. He dished out 5 assists plus nailed a super long heave before the clock ran out. Svi is getting more minutes because Luke Kennard has been out with an injury.

It spoiled the terrific performance by Gordon Hayward who went 11-15 and scored 25 points. Hayward is shooting 52 % this season and is slowly but surely getting back to his form when he was at Utah. I keep hoping he can get back to that form full throttle.

Some news and notes from the NBA.

By the way first round draft pick for the Pacers Dylan Windler won't play at all this season with a stress fracture. Too bad I was looking forward to seeing him.

Luka Doncic put in a long step back rainbow to finish off Portland last night. Having closely followed Larry Bird from his senior season throughout his Celtics career I can't abide by the idea Luka belongs in that rarified air ( at least yet) which isn't a big dig because Bird was the greatest white player in NBA history. Some would argue Jerry West is second and if Bill Walton had stayed healthy he would have been in the running but Walton never came close to reaching his potential due to countless injuries. Although even I have to admit Luka has done stuff even Larry wasn't doing consistently. And at such a young age. But it is worth remembering Bird inherited an even worse team than Luka his rookie season and made them championship contenders overnight. Bird won a title in only his second season.

That said it is hard to place Luka who is doing amazing things at such a young age. He certainly ( White Lightening etc) has gotten a lot of pub on this site. The James Harden comparisons seemed apt but Harden wasn't this good at this age and Luka just looks smoother. He isn't as athletic as Kobe Bryant or as powerful as LeBron James but there are a few similarities there especially the way he can control a game from multiple facets. He does have exceptional balance and body control and some suddenness. Granted Dallas lacks talent and Porzingis is their next best player but he has been injury prone. So it is important for Dallas to upgrade their roster talent level over the next couple of years which will allow Luka a chance at a championship. As far as comparisons to Larry Bird I don't see the direct similarities. While they share a few things in common, especially court sense, I don't watch Doncic and say to myself Larry Bird. Different types of players in my mind.

The Undefeated site ( black focused) has a piece on Pat Connaughton and at 27 it looks like this high flier might never get a chance to start but it is time Pat gets an invite for the slam dunk contest. They rattled off the white names of players who have participated including Brent Barry who won the event by soaring from the free throw line. The other players mentioned were Rex Chapman, Bob Sura, Chase Budinger, Tom Chambers, Mason Plumlee and Chris Anderson. They also mentioned Pat as a white player with "black athleticism" and they included Lakers back up PG Alex Caruso and Taysom Hill in that "category." which is silly. They think by listing all 8 of the white slam dunk participants and a couple of other players that "they are the only" white players who are/were athletic. There have been plenty of soaring/ athletic white NBA players over the years.

Some updates on "athletic" white players.

Jake Layman was off to the best start of his career before going down with an injury with Minnesota.

Mario Hezonja is stuck on a team with now three ( they added Carmelo Anthony) black ball hogs and just hasn't been able to do much. Portland is also missing two key white frontcourt players and are now just a team of three shoot it from anywhere devil may care types.

Grayson Allen went 5-6 last night in a Memphis win last night and is averaging nearly 18 minutes off the bench and showing quiet improvement shooting 45 % from the field and 7.7 points a game off the bench.

Kevin Huerter hit the game winning three last night for the Hawks. Injured early this season he came back in poor form but is coming around now averaging 28 minutes and 11.8 points to go along with 4.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists a game while shooting 40% from three. He is only 21 and the hope here is he blossoms into a star.

Donte D (22) is another player who could follow suit. Also banged up early he is averaging 22 minutes a game and scoring nearly 9 points a game for the Bucks. It would be nice if Donte and Connaughton get to strut their stuff big time especially in the playoffs. PC who has rebounded well this season has had some shooting woes but in his defense it is hard to get in a groove when your minutes get so scrambled.

Two other players that are coming off arguably their career games.

I have followed the Pistons Svi since he was a freshman at Kansas. Hard to believe he is only 22 since he has been around forever but Svi is shooting .419 from three and at 20 minutes a game he is averaging 7.8 a game. His play has increased due to a Luke Kennard injury but I have always felt Svi was an underrated athlete and has good court sense. Could he eventually earn a starting role? I think it is possible.

Another 22 year old sharp shooter is Turk Furkan Korkmaz who was hot last night scoring 24 points. The slight Korkmaz is still trying to figure things out and isn't an all around talent like Luka but he could make his mark in this league as a marksman. The 76ers lost their marksman when JJ left so Korkmaz could see his role expand. He is averaging 6.7 off the bench so far.

Shadowlight I fully appreciate your basketball knowledge but I’m starting to suspect that you are highlighting scrubs on purpose. Pat C got royally screwed like many other bouncy whites, but he is not going to ever be an all star.

Jokic, Nurkic, Markankn, Sabonis, both Bogdonovic, Hayward, Gallinari, Bertans, Valenciunus, Doncic, joe ingles, the Miami guys, the center for Orlando, Steven Adams ( Im counting as white) are all top tier guys. They already exist.

Even guys like Rubio, Kaminsky, Baynes, Bender, Mc Dermet, Boban M for the Mavs, Joe Harris, Theis, Kleber, Sataransky have as much if not more promise then the regularly hyped Pat C, Hezonja, Layman and Huerter ( who might be ok, but plays for a real crappy team).

These posts feel weird and defeatist, when the exact opposite is going on. We dont need to look for the future in scrub wiggers like McClung or any other high flying walk-on there are so many more players already performing at a high level. In short, this is not the NFL and the upcoming WR shortage which is a legit doom and gloom scenario.

Except for the last two players I mentioned I have focused on these players because of their excellent run/jump athletic abilities. That is the common thread among them. They happen to be "scrubs" in your book but all of them are young except for Pat C so the hope is many of them become starters and perhaps even stars in some cases.

That said I would like to see Pat C in the slam dunk contest.

You are so stupid. All you do is come here to talk sh** about McClung and other athletes. This site is here to support and not to knock down and talk bad about white athletes. Mac McClung will be an good
nba player. Your an idiot calling him a wigger. The kid has almost no tattoos, no piercings, a 15 year old paper boy hair cut and you say he wants to be black. Look at him. He could be singing
in the church choir. Mac also doesn't use ebonics. Regardless, it's a young thing and eveyone does dumb crap when they are young. He is actually very mature for his young age of 19. The kid
is lighting it up again today like he has all year. He can shoot the three, beat you off the dribble and has elite athletecism. You need to contribute here or go to another site with your stupid lies
and fake news about athletes that we support! :)

Sorry your but-hurt over me stating the obvious about the wigger McClung, I took a lot of the same flack over the girlish figured arab looking wigger Manziel.

Shadowlight brings up a good point about white high flyer types being shunned in the NBA, but in reality there is so much more to being a good basketball player then leaping. Dirk, Porzingis and Walton could all fly for big men before injuries, but most of the great athletes relied on quickness, hand eye cordination and anticipation like Nash, Bird, Stockton, West , Havlo etc.

Either way white men dominated and were viewed as winners, which is exactly what Luka Doncic is doing at age 20. At this rate (((Silver))) and the gang either have to take him out or ignore the NBA like in the Klitschko years.

Winning instead of being trick wigger losers like Jason Williams and so many fringe other loser McClung types is whats important. The NBA Marxists will welcome McClung with open arms. I’ll give up this site and the NBA all together if he ever becomes more then a circus act. The tattoos and ebonics are coming in the near future. The kid picked Georgetown for a reason.

nice breakdown Shadowlight. looks like the undefeated forgot about Rudy Fernandez a few year's back.

Agreed would be awesome to see Pat Connaughton in Dunk Contest! I echoe your sentiments. The Bucks white role players should be crucial come playoffs.

Also nice to see you mention a couple of our less heralded guys having success. As for McClung.. Haha not getting into that right now!

It would be interesting for them to try to ignore the nba with its 80~? black viewerbase, they will probably make up some weaksauce excuse for the superior performance of some white nba players like they did for boxing.

Although the NBA TV audience is undoubtedly disproportionately black, I doubt it's anywhere near 80%. The NBA and basketball in general is beloved by many White liberals and urban dwellers. There's also no shortage of suburban White kids who follow the league to varying degrees.

Many normal Whites have tuned out, but that makes it even easier for the "mainstream" media and their corporate allies to prop up the league and keep the Caste System strong. If too many Euros begin to spoil the party, a way will be concocted to keep their participation at an "acceptable" percentage, as was done some 15 years ago when various black players and (((media))) hacks began to complain about the influx that was then taking place.

What! The WSJ complained that there was a crisis in NHL Hockey due to a lack of diversity. Surely in the "woke society of diviserty in 2020" the media will lead the clarion call due to the crises in the NFL and NBA for lack of diversity. Surely/SARC.

They can never seem to penetrate hockey despite taking interest in a few instances, consistently 90%+, mostly whites watch but anything to promote the "supreme athletes"?

The league did take a nice turn some years ago with talented Europeans being drafted to which suddenly the black players and racist John Thompson because upset . Remember when Larry Bird had a half white team some years ago and quickly received backlash from black supremacists:?

Yes, it was a good team too. It would be one thing if the team sucked. The jew Bob Kravitz writing for the Indy Star is the one that kept kvetching about it.

On the flip side they complain that black kids don't have enough baseball stars to root for, saying they need role models that look like them.

I don't know what the Sacramento Kings are waiting for. Kyle Guy has been tearing up in the G League. He is averaging over 20 pts per game. Call this kid up to the big time now!

Luka Doncic just made more history. The Dallas Mavericks second-year guard will start for the Western Conference in the All-Star Game Feb. 16 in Chicago. Doncic, who turns 21 two weeks after the game, is the youngest player to start an All-Star Game since LeBron James in 2005.
