it is common knowledge that Allen is white/black mix. I personally don't cheer for him, also he is a non factor in the 110mh internationally.

Allen was president of the Black Student Union at Brophy Prep, so that gave it away to me. I am a old Klansman and the book is one drop of black blood , they are black blue eyes or light-skin, they are black.

watching the Continental cup this morning and I swear the 2 british want to get down on their knees and "service" the mens Jamaican discus thrower......disgusting announcing. Warholm came third in a very lackluster performance in the 400mh.

I see tall, beautiful, extremely talented pole vaulter Sandy Morris is a mudshark, why would she pollute such beautiful genes??? I will no longer support her athletic endeavours.

Daphne Schippers finished 2nd in the 200m yesterday at the Continental Cup in 20.28 on a slow track, she led until 190m and got caught by Uibo. She is tightening up at 170-175m in most of her 200m races which shows her speed stamina is off, maybe needs more 400m workouts in practise. Her starts are extremely slow in the 100m which is strange as her starts in the 200m are decent. I am wondering if she was experimenting with different training sessions, weights etc this year to see which works best for her as this was a non championship year.

The African men and women need better drug enforcement as they are winning far too easily with great times in distance races.

Erasmus did not get a chance to run his leg(3rd) of the mens 4x100m as the lead off leg came up lame with 10m to second leg handoff.

I would not be surprised if Noah Lyles gets busted for PED use.

Shubenkov wins again in the mens 110mh, Allen gets his ass handed to him again.

Hi guys, Emile just returned from the Continental Cup this morning. He has one more 100m race on 22 September to close down his season. It is a local event in Pietermaritzburg opening the new athletics stadium. There will be no coverage so I will report on this.

Emile has had an exciting and very successful season and I do thank you all for the amazing support. I do relay all your messages to him. He will be starting his preparation for the world champs on 1 Oct, again a very long season as our season starts in January. He plans to participate on the indoor circuit in Europe in Feb 2019(4 events), provincial championships in March and a 4 leg Grand Prix series in March and April then South African champs in April as well as the student games also in April. He will do the European season in Juneand July anf finally the world Champs. All this while he is a full time civil engineering student.

His goal for next year is qualifying and being selected for the world champs, going sub 10 and targeting Akani Simbine for the no1 slot in South Africa.

Thank you again for all the support.

Thank you Texas Flash. Emile has put his studies second after his athletics. He has a University of Pretoria scholarship which includes a full support staff in terms of physiotherapists, dietitians, personal trainers and access to all medical facilities. For this he enrolls in the minimum subjects and will only complete his schooling in 2024.

Please visit https://www.up.ac.za/. This is one of the top schools in South Africa and the facilities are great. The track was redone in 2016 and was done in mondo. In the SA summer we have a lot of European athletes descending on Pretoria because the weather is great. Lots of sun and no wind.

Emile is classified as an amateur as he has no financial support in SA. Sponsors are not existing and he relies on me to support him.

PS: Please excuse my grammar as English is our second language!

This could explain why there are so many successful student athletes from South Africa.

PS your English is better than many native speakers.....:jump:

Hey Mielie23. How much prize money has Emilie won in the last couple of years? Hopefully he was able to give you a little
of your money back but regardless either way what a dream to be able to watch your son compete and beat many of the fastest
men on earth. The pride you must feel. It's a shame he doesn't have funding as in many European countries he would be paid very well for the times he has run. Emilie Erasmus in an elite athlete/sprinter at the top of the bell curve. Amazing sprinter!

I trust Emile doesn't fixate on the sub 10 thing. Our Matt Shirvington did that till he injured himself and made himself ill trying to run to the clock all the time

In Europe he makes enough to cover his expenses and maybe a little pocket money. He has no cash sponsors and rely on the European season to make a little extra. He has no shoe contract but gets kit from Nike, a university scholarship that pays about 60% school fees, a supplement sponsor and a university of Pretoria High Performance Centre sponsorship that pays various medical expenses. He still stays with me and commutes to school from home. I bought him a cheap 29 year old Volkswagen Jetta which he uses. He has some odd house sitting jobs which he saves for his vacation in December.

Yes I am extremely proud of him and love watching him run. I have collected all his stats since 2010 and as a hobby I am writing coffee table books on his career as an athlete. At present I have 56gig worth of info on him. I will be taking a road trip this weekend from Pretoria to Pietermaritzburg to watch a 10 second run Saturday afternoon about a 700 mile round trip. He is well prepared for Saturday and will take a 2 week rest after this weekend.

No he does not fixate. Him and his coach are working towards the sub 10 which is one of his goals. His coach believes that when he goes sub 10 he must know exactly what he did to achieve it so he can repeat it, he also believes that qualifying for the world champs the times will come. Emile has the rare ability to remember and analyze every step he runs in a race.

We have 5 sub 10 athletes in South Africa and only 2 has managed it more than once. Akani Simbine has run 16 sub 10's and has a amazing work ethic but he is a full time athlete, Wayde van Niekerk has done it twice but he is a freak of nature. The other three Henricho Bruintjies, Simon Magakwe and Thando Roto has only done it once and all indications are that it won't happen again for them. Apart from Wayde and Akani the last 2 seasons Emile has beaten the others consistently. Emile, Wayde, Akani and Henricho are all the same age and have been competing together since 2009 as u/18 athletes.

Emile is extremely consistent and improves his pb virtually every year.

Looking forward to the 2019 season which for South African athletes start as early as Feb.

Hi Guys,

Emile ran the 100m in the inaugural African Athletics League in Pietermaritzburg yesterday. It was cold and it rained. On a very wet track he won the race in 10.04, second was Simon Magakwe in 10.08.

Nice close to Emile's season!!

That is so frustrating. If the conditions were good, he would have broken 10.00 for sure. I hope he is planning to come back next year. I could not find the 10.04 race, but I came across this 10.11 into a negative wind.

He will definitely be back next year. 10.04 race was not televised. Also there was no wind meter so it will stay an unofficial time. I have the race on my phone and will try to share!

Hi guys,

This is the video on last Saturdays race. I apologize for the quality was recorded on my iPhone 4 and it has no zoom function. Emile slipped in his blocks and Simon pulled ,5m ahead but Emile shut him down. You can clearly see the weather and the state of the track, just see how the spectators are dressed. Although there was no wind meter they ran into a head wind.

Wow, great comeback. What type of training will Emile be doing now that the season is over. Does he go into a strength phase?

Yes he does. He has a couple of weeks off, but starts strength training on 8 Oct and back on the track a week later. Will have a 2 week break in December again and only do maintenance during that time. The first week of Jan he will start reducing the strength training to concentrate on form and speed.

The SA season starts in Jan and he has to peak in April for SA champs and World Relays, taper off again and peak again for the European season and World Champs

Oh yeah, I forgot you guys are in the southern hemisphere. That is great news in the sense that he will be back attacking the 10 second barrier relatively soon. He is ready to smash through NOW! :pesas:

great stuff Mielie23. Thanks.
It must be good to have someone like Simon and a few others to push Emile / keep him working hard.
Our season mimics yours timewise, so it'd be good to see our 20/21 year olds like Jack Hale, Rohan Browning, and Trae Williams competing against each other like that. While not at Emile's standard yet, they all have PBs in the 10.10 to 10.20 range so it will be nice to see them step it up.

It is great for them to have all the competition and they do compete regularly against each other. In the South African top 10 100m sprinters eight run for the same club, The University of Pretoria or TUKS as we call them. Only Simon Magakwe and Roscoe Engel run in Cape town. TUKS is known as the mecca for sprinters in South Africa. They have stunning facilities and a brand new mondo track redone 2 years ago. Pretoria is also at high altitude, 1330m or 4364 ft above sea level which makes the track very fast.

Most of the top athletes in South Africa only start later in our season and may only do 3 races before the SA champs in April whereas the other athletes will compete in 9 or 1o events before the SA champs. The top athletes has to peak 2 or 3 times in a season so it takes careful planning by their support teams. As an Aussie you know the challenges that goes with this. Our winter training is very short as most of the country shuts down in December, for our USA friends this is our summer holidays.

Emile started training yesterday but will take a 10 day break between Christmas and new year. His first race will probably only be in our Grand Prix series in late Feb.

Back again ...firstly the last time I posted ,,I promised bingtian su on tape squatting heavy ....can't provide it ...sorry ..and it's not on YouTube ....so apologies ....but re sprint trading ..it's important to understand " speed is synonymous with strength " ....not ! The other way around ...and any body interested shoulmyoutube Julian reus or Richard kilty lifting heavy ...remember these guys squatting multiples of 180 kilo .....so 1 rep max could be up to 20 kilo heavier .......note sprinters only lift heavy from October to December ....and then speed of the bar is much more important .so therefore reducing max loads ..ie power speed is increased ...with plyometrics combined ..which is very complex in relation to helping with sprint speed ......so intrinsically what sprinters do is not comparable to anything cross fitters or lifters do ......but generally strengt development bases are similar ..but specificity is completely different ....so when somebody sees ramil guliyev lifting light and jumping up 46 inches these are all multiples and are almost directly preseason ....ie ramil snatches a specific weight 5 by 5 the does multiple jumps ..ie plyometrics .....at least up to 10 reps ....power speed maintenance and development .....but to get there ...the lifting work has been done the previous autumn .....

so he ran 10.00 last year, 10.00 and 10.01 this year with no wind assistance. This guy would seem a dead cert to run 9.90 - should be there already
