Interesting sprint results, for sure, but let's talk about some great victories in other areas:

National Champion in men's 800: Clayton Murphy, a youngster who could only get a scholarship at Akron. After making the world champ squad as a freshman, he came back this year and showed tactical maturity and a Nick Symmonds-like kick to win it all.

National champion in women's 800: Kate Grace, formerly of Yale, whose kick proved too much for Ajee Wilson.

National champion in men's 10K: Galen Rupp, for the 8th time, after a race in which he simply toyed with the rest of the field.

I'll leave it to someone else to cover the field events.

Thanks sprintstar. Obviously the heat looked better than the semi. Good start, good pickup, fast acceleration, and looking good and clearly in the lead till about 50 meters out, then..................visibly tightening up in the jaw-neck-traps-shoulders with his arms turning into rigid straight oars rowing and slowing with the entire field passing him. Too bad he couldn't duplicate his heat, but then many runners in order to advance have to give it their all thereby sacrificing the next round unless they have great conditioning. He looks like a power lifter. He's intriguing and I wouldn't be surprised if one of the West Coast power-house track clubs doesn't invite him to join. He's so tight that he looks prone to muscle pulls and his running form and lack of smoothness (relaxation) plays into that. I really believe from what I just saw, that this guy in the right hands could be a legitimate 9.90-9.95.

Thanx for posting those Sprintstar, you da man!!

Yes, noticeably tighter in the second race. Some big race experience in Europe, a few form adjustments, and he definitely breaks 10.00. This is not one of those once in a life time performances. This guy could do it on a regular basis.

I am wondering how he made it through High School and University with such poor sprint form? Did his coaches just say "oh your naturally fast" no need to worry about form and technique? He is already world class with bad form, I agree with the right coaching he can go well under 10 seconds.

I think at the end of his semi final he almost lost concentration, tightened up badly and coasted last 2-3m once he knew he was not going to win or place. Not a good tough mindset there or I hope he just shut it down to avoid injuring himself in a lost race. Watching his interview video posted by limitless, this kid has some serious vertical, wonder how he would do in the long jump?

thanks for the video. Clearly tightened up in the semi.

Guys, at this point he is a legitimate 10.00 sprinter - he's done it, legitimately. If he were to stay healthy and get in some quality meets this summer 9.95 is possible without another years worth of training or coaching. Its there - all he has to do is put it all together and let it out. 0.05 - 0.10 may be a lot of time to a perfectly tuned sprinter like Gay or Gatlin, but Teeters is not that by a long shot.

If he runs professionally next year and gets with a good coach and training group, then after improving his technique, 9.8s are what he could be running next year. You guys do realize that Tyson Gay never ran faster than 10.06 by the time he left college, and that included his summer after college?? Teeters has already gone faster than that! Oh, and Gay in his first year of running professional ran in the 9.8s on three occasions.

Lets set the bar a little higher for Teeters.

Bromell went from 9.97 in 2014 with a 1.8 m/s tailwind to 9.84 in 2015 with a 1.3 m/s tailwind (0.13 sec increase). Yes both were on the ridiculously fast Oregon track, but who cares? I doubt Trayvon did. All it probably did was boost his confidence and allow him to run 9.9s in Beijing and get the bronze metal.

Point is I could go on and on with example after example of sprinters who once sat right were Teeters is now and within 12 months or less made a good size jump, their abilities never questioned again, and they became permanent fixtures. Why cant that be Teeters?? Instead we sit here debating whether he's already peaked or if he could run another 5 hundredths faster. All the while, if he is going to go pro, he hasnt even started his career yet. Really this doesnt make any sense especially if we are the ones who are suppose to be encouraging and rooting for him.

Not as exciting as the middle distances, but some new sprint results:
In Euro champs, Christophe opted out. Guliyev has the best time in a heat (10.21). Kilty also moves forward with a 10.24. The very young Tortu also won his heat in 10.25.

was there some negative winds in the 100m? these times are extremely slow.
Nope. Temperature was ideal and wind was negligible from where I sat.
Tortu looked great, Guliyev looked to be in control, Kilty almost obscured from my vision so will need to see how they go in the semis with a bit more pressure on.
Lalova and Asher-Smith had free passes to the 200 semis (where they were equal fastest to the final in 22.57. Maybe Reus, Vicaut and some of the Brits will turn up to the next round in the 100 because many of the guys I expected to see weren't there.

Yes Teeters went a shade too hard the day before. It also looked like he panicked and started tying up around the 70 meter mark. I think this was his first US trials and it showed in this race. I hope he is willing to give a year or two to trying to become a top pro.

He has as much potential as anybody out there. I wonder if he can land a top sponsorship deal with one of the big shoe companies?

In some respects, this panic attack at leading the race is Teeters' and his coach's own fault.
During his time at Oklahoma State, he was held out of many finals, just running the heats, and not learning how to deal with the pressure of a big time final.
In fact he choked in most of his big finals, because - in my opinion - he wasn't used to high pressure situations.
He needs to get a good coach, and make psychological as well as the physical improvements to his race.
But I think he has the potential to do it, and become a multiple sub-10 sprinter.

I'm just a Track & Field lurker....but, shouldn't Teeters have his own thread? If I'm not mistaken, he's now the 2nd fastest white man in track history. I know the Lemaitre thread has been epic, and has also brought many new posters to this site.

Good point. Teeters 10.00 is more legit than Woronin's. Teeters is only 22 and inexperienced as mentioned above. His upside potential is tremendous.

Meanwhile, back to track.....Ramil Guliyev ran a personal best of 10.07 to make it to the 100m finals.
Richard Kilty won his semi and also made it to the final.
The youngster Filippo Tortu looked really good, and finished 3rd in his semi with a new PB of 10.19. He is the future of white European sprinting.
Bruno Hortelano, this year's sprinting revelation of Spain, also made it into the finals.
Lucas Jakubczyk of Germany ran 10.16, but didn't qualify for the finals.

The big disappointment was Julian Reus who ran 10.22, and didn't qualify for the finals.
No offense, but this is actually typical of Reus. His entire career, he has only run well in Germany. He's 28, and he's never made the European finals and never made it out of the heats at the World Championships. He had been having a great season, but still ran very disappointingly in these Championships.
The Rio Olympics is his last chance to prove himself.
Like Lemaitre, he should have been putting himself up against international competition more often, so he wouldn't be so prone to choking at these type of championships.

No white man will ever break 10 flat. Lemaitre is a quarter black and his coach is Jewish. Only 4,000 Jews died during the Holocaust. I have the proof just like McCarthy. I don't have to show it as I have the proof and live by fear and hate mongering to push my beliefs along.. :) I think I got my point across more. It is sad so many posters will not stand up to the lunacy of holocaust deniers on this site. Yes many Jewish people have clearly taken a monetary gain on exploiting the obvious. They are scumbags. But the people that deny what happened despite the dispute in numbers is why you get the flak you do. Why can't people get the fact they are insane and paranoid? I don't expect an answer as I have had none in the past.
I think you left your medication on the night stand, please check and take two in the morning, two in the evening.

Nice for Ramil...Tortu looks promising,,it's funny but I think his name means turtle in Italian/Latin and he is far from it

wow! fall asleep and some one goes off kilter for a moment. Why we talking holocaust in sports forum?

I was doing some research on Danny Talbot and was shocked when I read his mother is half Trinidadian and father is white, making him a quarter dark skin, would he be considered white or black? From a distance he looks totally white yet from close up you can tell he is mixed blood. Thoughts?

I will say in the Euro champs 200m final he was closing on Gemili fast and would have had him in another stride or so. Gemili looked like Teeters tense and all over the place form wise. This kid Filippo Tortu is extremely impressive at such a young age, great form and very relaxed sprinter...hopefully many more great races from him and sub 10 in the next year or so...

On an off subject..does anyone here know what "black Irish" actually is?

Cheers...

just watched the womens euro 200m, bit disappointed with Lalova although she was closing. Lukenkemper looked slow but is still just 19 so lots of time for her to progress. Asher Smith looks like a PED afflete, her face looks like a mans. Lisa Mayer is dropdead gorgeous very feminine looking but has along way to go as of yet.

Kilty false starts in the final.
Vicaut chokes and finishes 3rd.
1st goes to a guy from the Netherlands Antilles (Caribbean)
2nd goes to a guy from Jamaica representing Turkey.
And thus you can see the (non-European) future of Europe!

Meanwhile Hortelano looked quite good in getting 4th place. He was in lane 9. If he had been closer to his competition, he might have done better.

Dunno who you were looking at ...... but Asher-Smith hardly looks like a man.

Meanwhile Reus didn't make the final and again fails against even moderate competition.
No offense White Lightning, but I'm starting to think his dad times him at all these small town meets he does the good times.
