Wonderlic questions.

Disclaimer - I apologize if any of these questions are dumb. I admittedly am only a casual NFL fan.

(1) Do most NFL players take this test?
(2) When did the NFL start administering the test to players?
(3) Can one easily access the data on the test results and, if so, where would one go to find this information?

Thanks.

1) All players who attend an NFL combine take the Wonderlic test.
2) Late '70s, wasn't taken as seriously until around the 90s though.
3) So far as I know the Wonderlic is the only combine result that's kept secret from the public. Wonder why?

Occasionally Wonderlic scores are leaked, most often for quarterbacks or when a player scores really high or really low. That said though leaks by their very nature have to be taken with a grain of salt.

Why am I not surprised. The compilation and thorough examination of that data would be particularly useful. Personally, I would be interested in identifying statistical relationships (correlations) using the mean scores on a team level, among other things. While the discovery of a correlation between a higher mean score and the whiteness percentage of a squad would be a near certainty, I also suspect that there would be correlations between a higher mean score and overall success on the field (or even success in particular areas). This may seem obvious and commonsensical to the community here, but I expect such relationships to exist because we routinely see the following:
(1) more white-friendly teams performing exceedingly well vis-a-vis more 'affletic' teams;
(2) teams who perform poorly due to the stacking of 'affletic' bust players suddenly performing better when underutilized white players receive their opportunity;
(3) heavily 'affletic' and overhyped 'dream teams' underperforming or completely busting.

It sounds like this is not currently feasible or even possible. Oh well, one can always hope.

There's a definite correlation between Wonderlic scores and success at quarterback. Quarterbacks with Wonderlic scores below 25 are much less likely to be successful.

Here are a few amusing facts on the matter (again, no one here will be shocked):

Average score in the NFL by position

Though used in a variety of settings, the Wonderlic test has become best known for its use in the NFL's Scouting Combine. According to Paul Zimmerman's The New Thinking Man's Guide to Pro Football, the average score of a NFL player according to position is the following:

Median score by profession

[SUP]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonderlic_Test#Median_score_by_profession
See also http://espn.go.com/page2/s/closer/020228.html

Halfbacks score two points above janitors, and may be unqualified to work as mall cops. I also have to wonder if QBs would, on average, score highest if black quarterbacks were excluded.
[/SUP]
If you click on the wikipedia link and look at the list of test-takers who earned abnormally high or low scores, you will also notice a clear trend.

I am sure we could even articulate a dozen or so race-neutral reasons for why further analysis of these scores would be useful. Unfortunately, any observations will likely fall on deaf ears since the average DWF is border-line retarded and accordingly feels a greater affinity to the dual brain celled affletes.

Interesting stuff. Is there a known average score for defensive linemen?

Keep in mind that those averages were documented in a book which was published in 1984. I'm sure they're much lower now due to the more recent injections of fresh negro upside in the talent pool.

If I'm not mistaken, back in the latter part of the 1990's and the early 2000's NFL.com used to post all Combine results for the public -- even Wonderlic scores could be found on the league's official site.

I guess when the obvious started occurring -- whites were outscoring blacks by large amounts, they began to keep the test scores private. Only scores allowed out publicly are by "goys" that get perfect or near perfect scores (50). Ryan Fitzpatrick and Kevin Curtis are examples.

Matter of fact, it used to be that scores of the real retards used to get leaked -- i.e. Frank Gore & Vince Young. But Roger Goodell is now clamping down on those leaks.

For the same reason they also started a media campaign claiming that Wonderlic scores were meaningless. Once they started this campaign the DWFs started repeating it.

The fact that playoff quarterbacks have higher Wonderlic scores than non-playoff quarterbacks disproves the claim that Wonderlic scores are meaningless.

The thing is every time someone gets a low score, they claim dyslexia.

Tim Tebow got a 22 and they treated him like he was a moron, even though he is known to have dyslexia.

Terrell Pryor scored a 7 on Wonderlic test

Now there is a formula for converting Pryor's Wonderlic score to an IQ score. Double the Wonderlic score and add 60 to get an IQ.

(2 x 7) + 60 = 74.

Dyslexia is a legit excuse for doing poorly on the Wonderlic. Unlike other IQ tests the Wonderlic relies on having a good grasp of the English language. Sebastian Janikowski scored very low on the Wonderlic but this is understandable because English isn't his native language.

you forgot the excuse that they don't care about some "racist" test that has nothing to do with football. Yes the questions aren't football related, but they assess your ability to figure out questions in a short period of time (which adds stress). That relates to the quarterback position, they have to process information quickly, and other positions as well. Defensive linemen aren't listed because they are probably the lowest. Block the guy in front of you, try to block two or get through. Offensive linemen, especially center have to make all the calls and be on the same page as the qb. They have to react to stunts and extra men coming through, who to block? with man blocking schemes they are paired with a defender based on certain rules, if the defense blitzes or stunts then the rules for the same play change. I remember reading the Michael Oher book (christmas gift from inlaws) where Oher would be confused going over the playbook like "well what if so and so isn't there and its another guy coming from a different spot" (btw they have to teach him with ketchup and mustard bottles rather than a playbook, at least at Ole Miss, they used chairs in high school)

This could be the reason for the rise in the zone blocking scheme with more affletes, but even that takes intelligence, quick thinking, the entire line has to be on the same page, and is best suited for White linemen who are a little bit smaller and quicker, since it is based on angles as well as strength, and 330+ pound guys generally aren't quick enough. The whole line has to work in unison, basically have to quickly react to what is in front of them and what the other linemen are doing. This is why we see few teams use the zbs full time, usually a mixture, it takes time to master (many lines can't master the concepts and run it full time). Many times I see affletic linemen blocking nobody looking confused, regardless of scheme. This might be the reason for the downfall of the Texans, more sumos, more pressure on the qb, more picks. Running game isn't as good.

Also takes intelligence (although nearly not as much as the line) and vision by the back to find the cutback lane and hit it. Arian Foster when healthy could do it, Alfred Morris can do it. Ben Tate struggles a bit. White backs in college like Weissman don't have a problem. Darren McFadden when healthy looked pitiful when they switched to a zbs, so they went back to a man blocking scheme, irrelevant now because he is injured now...again. Another reason why 40 speed is irrelevant, Foster and Morris both run in the 4.7 range while Tate ran in the 4.4, and McFadden even faster. Tate in the zbs looks more like a power back/thumper because he isn't finding the holes that well.

I think this is why White guys excel at pass blocking (besides strength and technique), if they have more than one guy blitzing they have to pick up the right man in order to allow their qb the most time to throw, quickly reacting to where the defender is coming from, what space the qb has to step up into and deciding in a split second on who to block.

Wonderlic scores get leaked, but if they are really low some how they get changed, like Young's 6 turning into a 16. As smart as RG3 is supposed to be, i believe he scored a 23, and he isn't dyslexic.

What I'm saying is its likely a false excuse just like how every time a black player gets suspended for PEDs they claim it was Ritalin or Adderall.

I just took an on-line version of the Wonderlic. I scored a 37 and didn't answer 6 of the questions, because I thought I would run out of time, but had over 3 minutes left when I finished. So, as an old man whose been out of school for almost 30 years, I guess I did OK.

Anyone else want to try? Be honest. I think it would be interesting to see how CF members would do.

I took one before and scored somewhere in the area of 37 as well. I've taken an actual IQ test before and scored 136 on that, which translates to 38 on the Wonderlic. Pretty accurate for such a "meaningless" test.

I scored a 43 on the Wonderlic when I applied for my current job. This was after flying in on a redeye where I didn't get any sleep, learning about the company all day, and then getting the test at around 4 in the afternoon. It's not that hard if you relax and just use common sense.

relax, common sense, confidence, which brings me to another excuse for low test scores "back test anxiety" (don't think thats the official name for it but the idea is that "society expects them to perform poorly and so they do"

Well then, there you go. Blacks don't do well on the Wonderlic because they speak another language, Ebonics. :afro:

44, still I think FootballDad has me beat, I didn't take it under those kinds of conditions, I got 5 hours of sleep last night (which is good for me) and the only thing I did today was deal with a crying baby for a few hours.
