At UFC 165 on September 21[SUP]st[/SUP], the stakes have never been higher for any white mixed martial artist than when Alexander “The Mauler” Gustafsson, the gifted 6’ 5” Swede, clashes with the undeniably-talented black narcissist, Jon “Bones” Jones, for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship.

For the first time in his irrefutably-impressive MMA career, the 6’ 4” Jones will fight a taller man in Gustafsson. The tallest among Jones’ previous opponents were Jake O’ Brien, Stephan Bonnar, and Brandon Vera (all around 6’ 3”), whereas Sonnen, Belfort, Machida, Matyushenko, Hamill, Jackson, Evans, Rua, and Bader all gave up several inches of height to the detestable champion. The “theme” of this fight isn’t centered on Gustafsson’s height, but rather, his impressive reach…

Gustafsson’s reach is 77”, whereas Jones’ reach is nearly 85”, but Gustafsson’s leg reach is almost identical to Jones’. While Jones’ list of victories is far more impressive than Gustafsson’s, Alexander has only lost once, via submission to Phil Davis, and has never been knocked down from a punch or kick during an MMA fight. While Jones’ chin has rarely (if ever) been tested in a fight (perhaps by Machida for a few fleeting moments), Gustafsson absorbed massive shots from Shogun Rua and Thiago Silva and just kept walking forward.

Publicly, Alex is everything that Jon isn’t…humble, classy, respectful, polite, charismatic, articulate (despite speaking broken English), jovial and friendly. Physically, the two men might as well have come from different planets, as Alex is a handsome white man with platinum blond hair, sky-blue eyes, a slender nose, high cheek bones, and actually looks his age (26)...

Conversely, Jon Jones, the DUI-sporting, Bently-crashing, Mudshark-impregnating, fiancé-cheating, fight-refusing Prince-o-Arrogance models unpleasant facial features such as a broad nose, golf ball-sized nostrils, black steel wool fuzz-like “hair,” lips like purple inner tubes, a Neanderthal brow, eyes blacker than hell, a knotted beard, and the wrinkles of a 40 year old man…

Back in July, Jones and Gustafsson finally came face-to-face, and Jones wouldn’t look into his eyes, then did a homosexuality-inspired “Negro Gyration” (see 3:03 in the video below) to show Alex disrespect before sitting down…

Jones didn’t used to be this way. In fact, several years ago, his humility and respect for opponents was so impressive that I once referred to him as “The David Robinson of MMA.” Well, needless to say…his approach to fighting, his social interaction with MMA peers, and his life habits in general have changed in every conceivable manner…

Chris Weidman defeated a “mythological” black MMA figurehead (albeit one on the downside of his career) in Anderson Silva, and if Gustafsson could as well, it would be the single greatest moment for a white fighter in UFC history. For all that is white and good on this planet, let’s hope that our brother, the direct descendant of Viking might, can send this foul black virus back into the awaiting arms of his hideous, horse-faced Mudshark (who he was actively cheating on when he totaled his Bentley while driving drunk)…

Of course, UFC 165 isn’t all about the marquee fight, as Matt Mitrione (fresh off his anti-LGBT commentary) fights the white-looking “mystery meat” Brendan Schaub, Eddie Wineland fights the non-white Brazilian Barao, and two whites (Russia Muslim, Nurmagomedov vs. Pat Healy) will also square off.

In these bouts, wins for Mitrione, Wineland, and Healy would be best for our cause.

Good post and analysis Thrashen. Hopefully Gustaffson can beat Jones. Not an easy task, and I don't think Alex is at his peak yet.
The key is to have the mental toughness in dealing with someone that the media and fans feel is 'GOAT' sort of category.
Jones sometimes defeats others before the bell even sounds. So Gustaffson will need to be calm and relax and stick to his game plan and focus like a laser. The longer the fight goes, the better for Gustaffson. As good as cardio shape as Jones is in (and he is in excellent condition), I don't think he will want to brawl with someone the size of Gustaffson for too long. I see Jones wanting to end it early and make it a quick night..better for him to not want to chances.
Alex is still a bit raw regarding technical ability. Not taking anything away from Jones in the purely fight realm, yet I am quite astounded no one has yet been able to really attack those skinny, weak chicken legs of his. Many people see a real disadvantage there (leg kicks perhaps?).
Jones has done well staying out of range for leg kicks and others to go after those sticks. The reach advantage is a huge help for Jones. Yet this will be somewhat negated by the sheer size and strength of the Viking. It will be a tough match up for both of them; Gustaffson can win this fight next week.

Other fights on the card look entertaining as well. Should be good skill and courage on display next Sat. Confident the White fighters will do well and put forth tremendous effort and skill in some tough match ups.

If Gus keeps it standing, I think he wins. He has been training with Phil Davis at Alliance MMA in San Diego, to develop his TDD. Jones exploit his ranch advantage, and in this fight he won't have that. Gus needs to keep the fight in the center of the ring and use his boxing.

Gustafsson says he has an 81 inch reach and he looks like he has the same reach as Jon Jones. UFC's stats are inaccurate.

I see Wineland beating Barao. Eddie has heavy hands and has evolved into a KO artist. He lit up a very tough Pickett in his last fight. Moreover his wrestling is better than Barao's. If he keeps this standing (and I think he will) Wineland will eventually connect with Barao. If it goes to the ground Barao has a clear edge.

I see Jones handling Gus unfortunately. He will look to take Gus down ASAP and wrestling is still Alexander's week spot (rhough he has improved in this area).

I regrettably agree that there is a high probability of Jones defeating Gustafsson tomorrow night in Toronto. Jones is a heavy betting favorite, as he has been in all of his fights, but 20-1 is preposterous. From “National Post”…

The bookies have made Jones anywhere from a 9-1 to 20-1 favorite to beat Gustafsson.

From ESPN…

Following the nearly even odds of the UFC 164 main event between Benson Henderson and Anthony Pettis, UFC 165 will have the complete opposite. It is one of the most lopsided lines in the history of title fights, as light heavyweight champion Jon Jones defends his title against top contender Alexander Gustafsson in Toronto on Saturday.

Despite the UFC trying to sell Gustafsson as a compelling threat to the light heavyweight title, bettors aren't buying it, as they believe Jones will maintain his belt with ease Saturday night. We're here to look at the stats to find out whether this disparity is warranted and to find value in the lines for other fights at UFC 165.

Jon Jones (minus-900) versus Alexander Gustafsson (plus-600)

To educated MMA fans, it's obvious Jones owes most of his success to his unrivaled combination of size and reach for a light heavyweight fighter. In seemingly every fight, Jones has looked much bigger than opponents, utilizing his record 84-inch reach and 6-foot-4 frame to impose his will with impunity. So with the seemingly unbeatable Jones holding the throne with his size, the UFC has decided to match him with an opponent possessing a similar build. But the real question is whether there is anything more than the challenger's size that compares favorably with the champ.

At the very least, there is surely no pressure on Alexander to triumph against such odds and he has absolutely nothing to lose in being defeated by the detestable Champion…as the vile beast is, undeniably, the most dominant MMA fighter in the world today. Jones, of course, will be humiliated on a world stage should he lose to a white, Swedish LHW challenger who is far from a “household name” (unlike Shogun, Sonnen, Machida, Rampage, Evans, Bader, and Belfort). Even a “decision” victory over Gustafsson won’t be enough to refract criticism away from the repugnant Negro, who has an ever-augmenting army of cynics.

The only “weakness” I’ve noticed in Jones’ game is that he seems to lack “one punch” knockout power. Rashad Evans, the only fighter to ever manage to “go the distance” with Jones, was violently KO’ed by Machida. This stands to reason that Machida has more power than Jones. If Jones’ goal is to KO Gustafsson in an “exciting” manner (as opposed to submitting him), he might find himself in the midst of war. Let’s hope that Jones is that foolish. In 21 combined fights, neither man has been knocked down in their career.

Alexander isn’t much of a “trash talker,” but he seems confident…

“I don’t take anything personally. I don’t read too much. I don’t think too much. I’m going to go in there and shock the world on Saturday. I’m more than prepared, I can’t wait to get in there. I’m just living the dream right now. I’ve got a once in a lifetime shot and I’m going to do the best of it.”

A photo from yesterday’s press conference…

Like someone else mentioned, Jones has chicken legs. Maybe a good strategy woul be to try and land some lower leg kicks. It could be that his much smaller opponents haven't been able to get close enough, but that shouldn't be the case with this fight. Anyone know what Jones actually weighs the night of the fight?

I live in Toronto, where this fight will be occurring, and I have close to zero interest in this fight. I won't watch it live, and I probably wouldn't even watch it if it was on television for free. I'm just not interested in UFC or MMA for the most part. I may check the result the next day, but that's it.

I'm of the opinion that the athletic and skill quality level in MMA is much lower than in boxing (I have very good sources and examples to back this up, btw). I'm also of the opinion that boxing is currently more white-friendly sport than MMA is. Really, the UFC is just USA's answer to whites dominating the heavier weight classes in boxing. It's no coincidence that UFC became pushed mainstream almost at the exact time that heavyweight boxing came under European dominance.

I don't want to offend any of the UFC posters here (so please take my comments politely), but let's just say it's not my cup of tea. I could take it or leave it, and more often than not I'll leave it.

Gagnon with a a wicked KO of Kimura.

The Caceres v. Dulorme fight proves the truism that a black fighter NEVER loses a close decision to a non-black. It just never happens.

I scored that for Caceres as well, I thought he clearly won the last two rounds. Delorme looked very gassed after the first round.

Steven Thompson looking very much improved in his wrestling and he may well be the best striker at 170.

Wilson Reis just defeated Ivan Menijar. Now the reason I'm pointing this out is that Reis was cut by Bellator, after constantly losing fights. Menijar was suppose to be the number ten guy according to UFC rankings.

Two of the best white prospects at 155 are meeting tonight. Myles Jury v. Mike Ricci. I got Jury but I hate it when two promising young white fighters have to fight each other.

For what it is worth, Dominic Cruz predicts an upset win for Gustaffson. The only way I see this is if Jones stubbornly tries to stand with Alexander.

Nuragomedov will likely get the 155 belt at some point. He is very impressive with no real weaknesses.

I hope Khabib gets the next title shot, he's had 20 fights so far, and his real age is about 26 it turns out, so he is not as young as they were claiming.

I like Mitrione but Schaub is a better overall fighter. His chin will likely prevent him from ever being a champ but he is improving.

His chin might not actually be that bad. He just has poor striking defense and has bad habits with leaving his chin out there.
