Very good times for 100m.--800m. I'd sure like to have someone like her on my team. She would have probably had better times with faster competition.

Also keep in mind that she ran all 4 finals within the space of 2 hours.
If she ran only one or two of the events, I'm sure her times would have been faster.
Her best time for 800m this year is 2:07.59 - 2nd fastest HS time in the country!

Her PBs are:
100m 11.92
200m 24.81
400m 55.32
800m 2:07.59

This girl is pretty amazing!

100 1. Shelise Williams (Long Beach Wilson), 11.73
200 1. Shelise Williams (Long Beach Wilson), 24.03
400 1. Jasmine Joseph (Long Beach Poly), 53.75
800 1. Emily Dunn (Esperanza)m, 2:07.49

These are the results from the CIF-SS Division 1 from week or so ago. Seems like Miss Roesler would more than hold her own against the talent in the Long Beach area. California state championships are this weekend on Fox Sports.

There are plenty of blacks in North Dakota--on football scholorships. And anyway looking at one of the pictures I thought she might be part black. I don't really care one way or the other but if she has any success and it turns out she is part black then how do you think the media will spin it?????????????

There are plenty of blacks in North and South Dakota. In the close up, she doesn't look to be black at all. She is a cute little thing.

Laura came in 3rd in her 800m heat at the USATF Junior Championships. She must be one of the youngest (if not the youngest) athletes competing at the National Championships.
She also came in 2nd in the 800m at the Golden West Invitational - a HS all-star meet.
Remember she is only a freshman. Unbelievable.
Still, I hope she doesn't give up on the sprints.
She could be a phenom at the 400m.

Laura is now a sophomore and won the 100, 200, 400, and 800 at the North Dakota State meet.
Her times were 100 -12.07w, 200 - 24.30w, 400 - 55.76 and 800 - 2:10.78.
This is the 3rd year in a row she has won all 4 events! (ND allows 8th graders to compete in the high school championships)

This girl has a great future. A 10th grader! And, she sure looks 100% Caucasian to me.:

In the 800 qualifying (U.S. Olympic trials), Laura Roesler ND is a very close 4th (2:04.03) in a fast first heat. The sophomore was an auto qualifier for the semifinals, but there were also 3 time qualifiers behind her.

For a 16year old to qualify for the semis of the US Olympic Trials is an amazing feat!!
She was the 11th fastest of 16 qualifiers.
Meanwhile, Chanelle Price, who was the HS T&F athlete of the year (she is black), also competed in the 800m and did not qualify for the semis.
That makes Laura's accomplishment even more amazing.
Since she is from North Dakota she was not really well known, but now she will be on everyone's radar. If she makes it to the finals, I'm sure she will get a lot of attention from the media.

Laura won the 100, 200, 400, 800 at the North Dakota state meet for the fourth straight year (8th through 11th grade)!
Along with a 7th-grade title, she has won 17 state track championships.
Her times were:
100m 12.45
200m 25.16 (state record 24.66 in the prelims)
400m 55.10 (state record)
800m 2:13.92

Laura continues to impress and improve. She really is a phenomenal athlete!
Set a state record in the 200m, and even ran the 1600m.
She has committed to Oregon. I hope they let her run the sprints there.

Laura is a phenomenon. A cute phenomenon. You might think of her as a sprinter--eventually an 800 specialist--but her range, speed, and endurance are all equally astonishing. Get this: She just set a new state record in the 200m--after she'd already run the state's best time in the 1,600m (mile) that same day!!

I cannot think of anyone, male or female, whose range extended all the way from 100 to the mile.

Here's a cut and paste:

Laura Roesler didn't like the way her 1,600-meter race went on
Friday. She later took out her frustration on the 200.

That frustration helped produce North Dakota's best-ever girls high
school time in that event.

The Fargo South sensation covered the distance on the Bismarck
Community Bowl track in an astounding 24.01 seconds to highlight
the Bismarck High-Century High Invitational girls track and field
meet. The time beat the previous meet record - held by Carrington's
Whitney Carlson - by .97 seconds, and Roesler's bowl record by .29
seconds. Roesler's previous best of 24.30, set during the 2006
Class A state meet, was the all-time best for North Dakota high
school girls going in.

Earlier in the day, Roesler posted a winning time of 5:03.12 in the
1,600. It was a PR for Roesler and the state's best time to date.
However, the senior was far from satisfied.

"The race didn't go the way that I had hoped," she said. "It's a
good time, but it wasn't what I thought I could do today. I was
kind of mad about it. I was still mad when I ran the 200."

Roesler, who competed in just two events Friday, said going for a
PR wasn't the first thing on her mind at the start of the
200.

"I just wanted to run a strong race and let out a little
frustration," she said. "I felt good the whole way. The wind was at
my back the last 100 meters, so I had a feeling it was going to be
a good time. When I heard (the time) I was both excited and
disappointed. One of my goals this year is breaking 24 seconds, and
I was so close. It made me think that if I had pushed a little
more, or leaned a little more at the finish line, I would have
gotten it.

"But this gives me confidence that I can achieve that goal,"
Roesler continued. "At first, I thought maybe it wasn't achievable.
Now I know it is."

Roesler won the race by 1.07 seconds. Morgan Milbrath of Minot was
the second runner to finish.

Roesler, who has won the Class A girls 100, 200, 400 and 800 in
each of the previous four seasons and has 17 state championships to
her credit, now owns the state's best times in the 100 (12.07), 200
(24.01), 400 (54.75) and 1,600 (5:03.12) this season. She has yet
to run in an 800-meter race in 2010. She is considering competing
in the 1,600 at the state meet.

"I've never run in that event at state before. I'm thinking I might
try it, and it'll depend on how things go the next few weeks,"
Roesler said. "If I do, I'll probably drop the 100. We'll
see."

Supergirl has done it again. Ran the fastest 800 in the country this year, a time that also broke the stadium record in a venue also used by collegiate athletes. Imagine what she could do if she had competition. The second and third place finishers were also outstanding, giving these Dakota girls a sweep of the national 800 rankings, but they were still three seconds behind Laura.

Update on Supergirl:

She just won her 20th individual state title, winning the 200, 400, and 800 this year. In her 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th grade seasons, she won the 100, 200, 400, and 800. This year she was finally beaten in one event--the 100--by up and coming supergirl (the next Laura Roesler?) Morgan Milbrath. Don't feel bad about the loss, though. The 100 is a long way from her specialty, the 800, and after that defeat (her first ever in h.s. competition), she went on to break the state record in the 200 (24.32) and then run the third-fastest 400 in the entire country this year--an awe-inspiring 53.25! That was, of course, also a state record. And she was racing against headwinds all day. Oh, and it's not like she walked that 100. She and Milbrath both ran a state record 11.97 in the prelims.

I have a feeling we're going to be hearing about supergirl for years to come. Oh, to be her agent when she wins the 800 in the Olympics...

Then again, I wouldn't mind buying stock in the up-and-coming Milbrath, either. She pushed Supergirl every step of the way in the 400 and finished with the fourth best time in the country. As a sophomore! Not even supergirl ever did that.

Congratulations to her on an amazing HS career.
And great to hear about Morgan Milbrath, who is only a freshman!
Amazing what these girls can do when given the chance to compete as sprinters!

I can't resist reviving the supergirl thread, and not just because she's adorable. A few days ago, I posted about her absurd 51 second relay split--the third fastest in the NCAA. It occurred to some track fans over on Track and Field News that if she lowered that time by just one second (and she's only a freshman, mind you), she could make the Olympic finals in the 400.

That's how fast supergirl is--even though she's an 800 specialist.

So the debate has gone on and on about whether she should take her dazzling sprint skills and drop back down to the 400. Right now, she's a very good 800 runner, but hasn't brought her times below 2:00 yet. She's much closer in the 400, even though she doesn't train for it. Here's a link to a fairly informed debate, for anyone interested. I'm sure a lot of you have ideas about why she was automatically pigeonholed into her longest possible event:

And on a related note, I was curious to see what became of Morgan Milbrath, who handed Roesler her won and only defeat in four years of championship h.s. competition (during which time Roesler repeatedly swept every event from the 100 to the 800). It seems that Milbrath has become a kind of new Roesler. This year, following in supergirl's footsteps, she won 4 individual state titles (100, 200, 400, and the 300 hurdles).

Here is a video of Milbrath running a sub-54 400 meters this year (53.98) at the Howard Wood Relays. She is the girl wearing the ridiculous-looking black leggings (sweats?):

Very interesting dynamic going on there. T&F fans are not at all DWF's, and yet here we see many of the posters on that forum with an almost instinctual decision-making process based on... well... not necessarily intentionally so -- because the mind cannot openly admit it -- but based on color. And several of the other very smart posters [one is trackster, perhaps?] seem to understand this as they lay out massive evidences and try to coax a reasoned response out of the nay-sayers, gently trying to reason with those who have a mental block in this area.

She is an amazing talent. If I were a coach, I'd be afraid to try to develop someone with such a broad range of ability. And a cutie, besides.Edited by: Observer
