as has been mentioned already, nearly all white Vermont beat coal black BC. so i wanted to start a thread for these types of games this season...
mostly white Butler beat mostly black Indiana last night 60-55, led by AJ Graves' 20 points and clutch free throw shooting. Dick Vitale slobbered all over IU's "vastly superior afaletes" all game long, and when Butler's black point guard went to the bench with 4 fouls with 17 minutes left in the second half Dickey V pronounced BU's doom.
it didn't turn out quite that way. smileys/smiley36.gif
despite giving up a LOT of size, Butler's quickness and clutch shooting down the stretch proved the difference. somehow, Vitale changed his position, and said it wasn't really an upset despite the vast "gap" in talent. smileys/smiley5.gif i wonder how that works?

BYU plays at UCLA tonight. BYU has 2 blacks on the roster this year, both seniors, and both will probably start. There will be times when BYU will have 5 guys on the floor though. Returning is Freshman All-American Trent Plaisted, plus Jimmy Balderson who averaged 10.2 ppg last year. BYU is expected to compete for the MWC championship this year. Tonight's game starts at 7:30 Mountain time.

Even though he's 1 of 6 Seniors on the team, at this point it doesn't look like he will be starting. I'm sure he'll get a decent number of minutes, but I think starting is out of the question unless there is an injury. He started just 4 games last year.

Oral Roberts was all black, but Kansas lost nonetheless.

BYU led into the second half but ended up losing by 13 to UCLA. Not a bad showing though, considering BYU's 2 exhibition games were against practically JuCo teams.

Although I posted this some time ago and it isn't a current game it's still signifigant.March of 2000 in the secound round of the West Regional all-white Gonzaga beat all-black St.John's.Kenny Williams was the only 'Zag black player and he never saw the floor likewise the lone white player on St.John's was stuck to the bench. It was Mike Jarvis against Mark Few a totally black vs white game.Led by Matt Santangelo and punctuated by Mark Spinks'monster dunk I became a fan.

the Thanksgiving holiday weekend was very bright for white guys on the hardwood. there were a ton of mostly white teams who beat much more heralded teams filled wif afaletes. smileys/smiley2.gif
possibly the biggest story was the run of Butler University. the Bulldogs routinely start 4 white guys, and they made a run through the Preseason NIT Tournament, eventually beating my Gonzaga Bulldogs to win the championship. en route, Butler also knocked off Notre Dame, Indiana, and Tennessee. except for Notre Dame and the Zags, Butler faced nearly coal black competition with "super talented afaletes" all over the court. yet, somehow they cut down the nets in Madison Square Garden.
led by point guard A.J. Graves, a 6-1 junior, the Bulldogs went from "just another win" on the schedule, to a dominant non-BCS league hoops team to watch.

Graves pointing to his teammates as he holds the Tourney MVP trophy
nearly all-white Missouri State upset #7 Wisconsin at Wisconsin's house, led by the nation's best free throw shooter, and generally under-rated guard, Blake Ahearn. Ahearn had 25 in the win. additionally, Missouri State had beaten all-black Houston earlier in the pre-season NIT. smileys/smiley32.gif

Ahearn, the Bears' floor general
almost all-white Marist, led by last year's collegiate assist leader Jared Jordan took care of coal black Minnesota in the opening round of the Old Spice Invitational Tourney. before the game, the announcers were talking about the Gophers "vastly superior afaleticism." after the game, they couldn't stop talking about how good Jordan was and how much Minnesota missed their suddenly best player, white center Spencer Tollackson. smileys/smiley36.gif Jordan had a near-triple double, with 11 points, 10 assists and 7 rebounds.
Jordan nearly led the very under-sized Red Foxes to another upset in their second-round game, against the Arkansas Razorbacks on Friday. they came up short at the end, but Jordan had another stellar game. he led his team in scoring, assists, and rebound with 21, 8, and 8. smileys/smiley32.gif

Jared Jordan doing his thing
nearly all-white Western Michigan knocked off midnight black Virginia Tech on Thursday in the Old Spice Tourney, as well, behind Joe Reitz' 17 points and 8 boards. WMU got smoked in the next round by racially mixed West Virginia.
speaking of West Virginia, they are led by the high flying sophomore Joe Alexander. Wow! can this kid get off the floor! with a little more experience (he barely played last year as a true frosh), he will be special. he has a tremendous all-around game, from blocking shots to making assists to hitting the 3. he's going to be something. smileys/smiley32.gif
mostly white Northern Arizona knocked off Arizona State at ASU. of course, they then got rolled at Arizona by Chase Budinger who had 32.
the Air Force Academy knocked off Texas Tech. former MWC PoY Nick Welch is back. an under-sized center, Welch might be the best passing big man in the country. i really like watching him play. forward Jacob Burtschi is also very good.
my Zags knocked off #2 North Carolina in Madison Square Garden. i don't know what Roy WIlliams was thinking, but his poor player management helped the Zags a whole lot. with the backcourt of Frasor and Miller on the court, the Zags really struggled. fortunately for the Zags, the two white Tarheel guards spent most of the game on the bench for some reason. smileys/smiley5.gif Raivio and Heytvelt took advantage, and carried Gonzaga to the title game. they lost that one, to nearly all-white Butler.

Duke also beat Indiana in what could be considered a "white vs black" game. It seems as if in all the Big Ten-ACC Challenge games, the one with more whites have prevailed, the exception being Georgia Tech who beat Penn St and Maryland-Illinois as a simple black vs black game. (Duke over Indiana, NC State over Michigan, Northwestern over Miami, and Wisconsin over Florida St. being instances of whiter teams winning.)

Maryland starts the best freshman point guard i've seen play this season, Eric Hayes (http://umterps.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/hayes_eric00.html). he's listed at 6-3, but he looks very long. he's almost a reincarnation of former Terp, Steve Blake. incredible passing ability, and quick off the dribble. he's still working on his jumper, and his defense isn't as good as Blake's was, but he's got a lot of ability.
sunshine, i wish i could find a photo of Joe Alexander in the air. he can really fly. he has had an interesting life, as well. he grew up in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, etc. before coming to the states in his teens, i believe. he's coming very late to the game, so his upside is unbelievable. definitely one of the most impressive players i've watched so far early in the season...

Jared Jordan had an awsome game against W. Michegan. The announcers even bragged about him all night and felt it was an all time great game. But I swear they still had to bring out the old tired cliche. One of them said that "Jordan is not a great athlete, but he just gets the job done." Why oh why for once cant they just brag on a white player without having to qualify their statement with such stupidity? The kid is fast, can score, plays defense and in that game was out jumping some of the big guys.

A thread like this in college football is pretty much unecessary at this stage of the season, but it could be done next year. I think whitey vs. blackie games are pretty common knowledge to college football fans though, as their are fewer of them and they are often higher profile. I have posted about some of the whiter 1-AA teams playing 1-A teams earlier this season though. There is a great thread on the whitest teams in the country under college football, and by using those teams listed at the top of page one of that thread, you can determine the whitey vs. blackie games yourself.
There are plenty of people on this board who have skills and interests that can add a lot to it. Feel free to use them! If any of you see a need for something, or want to start a regularly updated thread, take some initiative and hop to it. As it is, several of us spend several hours a week gathering info and presenting it on here. Maybe thats not apparent enough, I don't know, but I thought I'd mention it. Thanks to everyone for being part of Caste Football, but realize that a few guys can't do it all. We need your help. Edited by: Colonel_Reb

I love Notre Dame in the Big East this year. Victims of many heartbreaks last season, they can shoot the lights out and they play tough all game. If they could do well and make a good showing in the Big East it would show that white teams can be very good even in "the best basketball conference."

Root for the University of Arizona Wildcats. They have two whites in the starting lineup and they are both the stars of the team.Radmenovic and Budinger.
Chase Budinger has the potential to be a player similar to Lebron James at the next level. He is that good.Chase is only a freshman but would be a top 5 pick in the first round of the nba draft already. He also has a 44 inch vertical jump!

Washington dominated LSU tonight..and it was summed up after Hawes scored 6 consecutive points, and on the way back down the court says to a black LSU player: "You can't stop me, let's go..." He's got some swagger! Washington won 88-72. smileys/smiley32.gif

From AP story:
Hawes, Washington's heralded freshman center, dominated Davis, LSU's
preseason All-American, with season highs of 23 points and 12 rebounds
to lead the 17th-ranked Huskies to an 88-72 runaway victory over the
12th-ranked Tigers on Wednesday night.
"Man, games like that are so much fun. That's why you sign up to do
this," a beaming, giddy Hawes said following his nationally televised
breakout game. "I mean, if I'm correct, Davis was a first-team All-
American.
"These are the matchups you live for."
Jon Brockman added 19 points, 14 rebounds and relentless banging of
Davis for Washington (9-1), which won its 26th consecutive
nonconference home game while hosting an SEC team for the first time
since 1985. The Huskies also erased all doubts from a humbling, 20-
point loss at No. 22 Gonzaga on Dec. 9 in their only other game against a
ranked team this season.
"Our front line, I hate to brag on them, but they were pretty impressive,"
Huskies coach Lorenzo Romar said, smiling ...
(Hawes) was larger than his 7-foot frame. He also belied it. He was 10-
for-16 from the field while unfurling a dazzling array of hook shots and
spinners, plus guard-like jumpers and fadeaways. Most came against the
bewildered Davis.
When Hawes spun to the baseline and hit a hook over Davis with his right
hand to give Washington a 29-14 lead 11 minutes in, Davis stood,
momentarily stunned. He then shook his head at his younger challenger.
And when Hawes swished a fadeaway from 18 feet over Davis early in the
second half to maintain Washington's 14-point halftime lead, Davis
smiled at Hawes. Hawes returned the grin.
"He did some things I didn't think he could do," Davis said.
Hawes then made consecutive jumpers with Magnum Rolle's hand in his
face at the top of the key. They put Washington ahead 57-43 with 17 1/2
minutes left.
After the second one, Hawes got into Rolle's face at the other end and
twice told him, "You can't guard me!"
"That's a little bit of my 'old' personality coming out. Sometimes, you
can't control it," Hawes said sheepishly, his ruddy face turning red.

Hawes has a VERY nice inside game and he can also hit from the area right inside the 3 point line so he is very difficult to defend. Brockman worked his as off and had a couple of nice offensive rebounds and putbacks. Glen Davis had no answer for either, and now it appears Hawes is on the ESPN radard which should bring him a lot of good exposure. smileys/smiley32.gif
Tonight there will be a "whitey vs. whitey" game between the 2 programs we follow most: Gonzaga and Duke. Who does everyone like? Who should we be rooting for?

i stayed up late to watch this game, because i hadn't watched UW live, just read news reports and game recaps. it looked like i picked a good game to watch!
Hawes is amazingly skilled, especially at his age. he is unreal! the ability to face-up or post up and go over either shoulder was incredible. and he has a nasty streak, too! nice.
i was nearly as impressed with Jon Brockman! he completely shut down "Big Baby" Davis, while putting up huge numbers himself. Jon scored 19 and snared 14 boards, including 9 on the offensive end! and he wasn't intimidated at all by the physical play of LSU. rather, he revelled in it!
at one point, Brockman's defense, along with the help of Hawes and others, held Davis scoreless from the 9:20 mark remaining in the first half until 7:56 left in the second. wow! smileys/smiley32.gif smileys/smiley32.gif smileys/smiley32.gif
UW frequently had 4 white guys on the court at a time, and judging from past box scores and the performance of this game, it is the erratic, self-absorbed play of black perimiter players dentmon, pondexter, and oliver that have been holding back the play of the Huskies.
