Sidney Crosby is joining Mario's team. The Penguins are coming back! They went into survival mode several years ago after a great ten-year run, trading veterans for prospects, anticipating that a new CBA would be the only thing that would keep them in business. They were lookingto be in good shapeeven before winning the rights to Crosby. Now they'll have the most heralded prospect since Mario Lemieux himself. But they still need a new arena.
I love it!

Hello Bear-Arms! I feel your pain! The Penguins have Lady Luck on their side
It would be a wonderful thing if Mr. Crosby measures up to his substantial reputation. If he really were faster and more skilled than all the rest of the NHL, that would make him a Gretzky. Provided of course, that he sticks and brings championships to his team.
Super Mario should be a fine teacher
May the Penguins stay in Pittsburgh and tear up the NHL!

Sidney Crosby is finishing his rookie season very strong. In tonight's game he joined Dale Hawerchuk as the only 18 year olds to score 100 points in an NHL season. What a remarkable accomplishment. smileys/smiley32.gifsmileys/smiley32.gif
Crosby has a great work ethic to go along with his immense talent. He badly wants to be an all-time great and I wouldn't bet against him. He and Ovechkin give theNHL two great talents to promote for many years to come.

Yes, rare for a hyped rookie to perform so well, at 18 too WOW reminds me of Steve Yzerman.
Great for hockey to have this talent, a Canuck too!

Sid had a career high 6 points tonight in an 8-4 Penguins win over Philly. Crosby vaulted into the league scoring lead with 47 points. Jagr is second with 44.
And he's still a teenager! What a talent! smileys/smiley32.gif

Sid just scored 4 more points and now all of a sudden has a 7 point lead in the scoring race!
If you're a hockey fan and have a chance to watch a Penguins game do it, because Crosby is on fire right now. Every game he's making multiple highlight reel plays.
I was fortunate to be able to watch Mario Lemieux his whole career, and don't think it's a stretcheven at this earlystageof his careerto say that Crosby is going to join Lemieux, Gretzky and just a few others at the very top of hockey's pantheon before he's through, that's how good he is.

Yes, the Beak is Back!
Watched the Pens smoke the Flyers a few nights back, then last night stuff the Islanders. Nineteen goals in three games, 21 if you count the shootout.
The Penguins are "for real" in that their Run-and-Gun offense really works and only encounters an off night about one in every four games. Barring injury the Penguins will be a terror the rest of the season.
They do remind me of the Jagr-Lemieux Pens, lots of raw speed and power. Crosby is fun to watch, plays like Gretzky only not as whiny. Nobody wants to play the Penguins next, especially in Pittsburgh.
And this very morning we read of Mr. Balsille withdrawing his offer because the friggin' #$@^%* casino "deal" might not go down. Bettman the Kayak is thrilled! another chance to diss a White City of its hockey team, and maybe move it to East LA or Houston or Mexico City.
So watch the Penguins while U can! Cheer for Crosby 'cause he's that good. Hope that Gene Malkin can learn, very quickly, how to play defense, and that Mark Recchi's old legs can hold up!!

Who saw The Pens crap on the Islanders last night? Malone has a hat trick and Crosby had 4 points. Lol, it reminded me of one of my high school games. Did anyone see that move Crosby made behind the Islander net? It was crazy. He's buck nasty with a stick. lol.

This guy is the closest thing hockey has to a LeBron James. I just wish he would get more publicity nation wide in the US, although he is huge in Canada.

Is he better than Alex Ovechkin? Ovechkin gets a decent amount of attention here in the DC area. I'm not a huge hockey fan but did get free tix to the Pens-Caps game last year. I didn't realize at the time that I was seeing the two best young guns in the NHL.
I'm starting to follow hockey a little more because of the racial dynamics and hope it gets more popular.

I played hockey from peewees all the way through college, and I can tell you from experience that theres no other sport like it. As for Ovechkin, he's an unbelievable player, and the fact that he plays for a struggling team (the Caps), makes him stand out even more. Although, I can't say whether or not he's better than Crosby.
On a side note, hockey players tend to be more team oriented and care more about "the team" rather than themselves. I don't think I have to explain why. smileys/smiley36.gif

Crosby is only the second teenager to hold the outright lead in an NHL scoring race (Wayne Gretzky, 1980).

Sid had 4 more points tonight on the road against Phoenix and now has a ten point lead in the scoring race. He missed a few games due to injuryand has 78 points in just 45 games. He's starting to bring back memories of the NHL's high scoring era, which most fans loved. Wayne Gretzky had 138 points when he was 19; Crosby is now on about the same point pace at age 19.
Tonight, he made a great pass that led to a goal while in the air horizontalto the ice, and followed that up with an unbelievable goal. I'll post a highlights video tomorrow if I can find one.
The Pens thumped Gretzky's team 7-2. Sid probably considers it payback for Wayne leaving him off the Canadian Olympic hockey team last year. Big mistake. smileys/smiley36.gif

Here's highlights of last night's Crosby Show. Check out Sid's assist on the first goal as they don't show a replay of it for some reason.

Crosby won the Hart Trophy, making the 19 year old the youngest MVP in NHL history. Sid also won the Lester B. Pearson award as the league's outstanding player as voted on by the players.
Given his age, Crosby may be the mostimpressive athlete in the four major North American sports leagues, and maybe even in the world right now.

Crosby set a career high with 51 goals this season, the most in his career, and yesterday also became the third youngest player in NHL history to reach 500 career points. Gretzky and Lemieux were the only two to do so at a younger age. Pretty impressive considering that the NHL has been in a "dead puck" era for a number of years now, at least compared to the free-wheeling days of the 1980s and '90s when Gretzky and Lemieux were in their peak years.

Sidney Crosby is making his debut for the Penguins in about one hour. Should be a great atmosphere at the game in Pittsburgh. It's been almost a year since Sid last played due to persistent concussion symptoms. Let's hope he's one hundred percent as he's a tremendous hockey player and a class act and great representative of the NHL off the ice.

It took Crosby all of about 4 minutes to score in his first game back, a beautiful back-hander! The game is being televised nationally on Versus.

Glad to see him back. He's a rare talent and really helps the league.
What is it with concussions now? I know they are trying to prevent some kind of permanent damage by being so cautious but I see the old timers all the time and they seem fine. Look at Gordie Howe, the guy played for 60 years and had to have his head bashed a million times. But he seems fine. Same for most of the other old timers. I can see in football where there is a lot of head butting but how often does it happen in hockey? It seems like more of the pussification of our society. Pitch counts for pitchers, year long time off for concussions, next thing you know they will be bringing in relief QB's if the starter throws too many passes.
