It was disappointing to see KC have another coal-black draft in 2010. Will they ever learn?
Does (UFA) Cody Slate have a chance at making the active roster?

It depends on how many TE's the Chiefs decide to keep on the roster. Normally, they would carry three, which makes it a tough go for Cody, since supa dupa afflete Leonard Pope and high-draft pick Tony Moeaki are both locks. That leaves the third position battle to Jake O'Connell, who is the most likely to be kept, Cody, and afflete Leroy Banks, who the coaches love since he has lots of "upside".

Andy Studebaker continues to get recognition. He's yet another potential White star in the making at LB. The timing seems right too, given that Mike Vrabel is near the end of his career, which should shorten Studebaker's racial apprenticeship.
Chiefs Need To Take Studebaker For A Spin
I have been raving about Andy Studebaker since least season.
It wasn’t just his interceptions against the Steelers that impressed me. It was the fact that 17 of his 28 tackles last season came in the same 3 game span he was covering for the injured Mike Vrabel.
Small sample size? Sure. Yet if you take Studie’s numbers in those 3 games and project them over the course of a season, this is what you get:
91 tackles and 10 interceptions.
Ok, so Studebaker is probably not likely to ever get 10 interceptions playing OLB but you get my point.
When the kid was in the game, he got to the ball carrier and made plays. I remember one instance last season where he blew through 3 blockers to get to the ball carrier and knock him out of bounds. I just believed the kid could be special.
Studebaker seems to be generating more and more buzz and it appears the Chiefs are catching on. Studebaker recorded a tackle for no game on his very first snap in the Falcons game. He had played very well all preseason and the team is giving him snaps with the first team defense, bringing him in during nickel situations and moving Mike Vrabel to MLB.
If Studebaker continues to impress this preseason, the Chiefs need to seriously consider making Vrabel’s move to MLB permanent. Even with all his experience Vrabel is not getting any better. I understand the Chiefs desire to keep him on the field but they face a conundrum if their loyalty to Vrabel keeps Studebaker in the garage.
If the Chiefs think Studbaker is ready to take the field without being a liability, they have to find a way to get him out there.
It might be time for the Chiefs to take the Studebaker for a spin.

It just bugs me that they have to rotate Studie with Vrabel. It would be nice if, as the author suggests, that Vrabel be moved inside so that Studie can be on the field full-time. After all, what else do the Chefs have at LB? They have Tamba Hali at the other OLB spot, who is a good "OLB/DE" pass rusher, but a liability in coverage, wildly inconsistent Derrick Johnson, and scrubs like Corey Mays, Demorrio Williams, Jovan Belcher, et al.
Heck, my dream Chiefs LB lineup would read John Russell ROLB, Andy Studebaker LOLB, Mike Vrabel and Cory Greenwood ILB's. Not a tackle would be missed.

Apparently not. Cody was one of the first Chief cuts this year. He went out with fellow white guys Bill Stull (QB) and OT Tyler Eastman, the rookie from Maine. Cody had one of the best preseasons of any of the TE's on the roster, but as I mentioned in a previous post, it was pretty crowded at that position, with 2 of the 3 positions set.
Both Eastman and Slate look to have a good shot at the practice squad. I think Eastman has considerable "upside"

Cody has got to make it somewhere even if its a practice squad where he can work his way up as the kids such a great reciever Another under the radar tight end that can hopefully stick is Ryan Purvis for the Bucs who has also been impressive.

rotoworld is more than happy to report:
Chiefs waived WR Lance Long.
Long has a short stint as the Chiefs' slot receiver last season. His release is a positive sign for Kansas City as they've drastically increased the skill-position talent level on offense.

What probably killed Lance's chances most was that he wasn't quite as adept being a WSTD. Terrance Copper can't catch anything, but he's supposedly a good special teamer, and he's got the magic skin tone, so bye-bye Lance.

I've always liked Mike Vrabel, going back to his days as an unstoppable pass rusher at Ohio State, but it's clearly time to pass the torch to Andy Studebaker, if indeed outside linebacker is Studebaker's best position (my guess is that Studebaker can dominate inside as well). Does a White defensive player have to serve a racial apprenticeship when he is taking over from another White defensive player? Apparently so:
Haley encouraged by linebacker tandem
Haley said he likes the dynamic that has developed between outside linebackers Mike Vrabel and Andy Studebaker. Vrabel, 35, has acted as a mentor to Studebaker, who will turn 25 on Sept. 16. Haley said that’s encouraging, even as Studebaker begins to take playing time away from Vrabel – and, if Studebaker continues to improve, he might eventually take his mentor’s starting job.
“The relationship between Mike and Andy is what we’re trying to establish across the board, at all positions,” Haley said. “You have a veteran player that is teaching, coaching, schooling, working with the guy that could take his job or take reps from him. You see Mike, it doesn’t matter to him.”
Studebaker had two of the Chiefs’ five sacks in Friday’s preseason loss to Philadelphia. Haley said Vrabel’s influence on Studebaker helped lead to that performance and might lead to a larger role in the future.
“When more of your team is worried about one thing,” Haley said, “and that’s winning the game, championships, you’ll have a pretty good team.”
Hey Todd, Andy's 25, he doesn't need a "mentor" for years on end, just let him play!

I read this article earlier today while perusing the KC Star at the airport. Even though it has been VERY successful in preseason games, there is no mention in the article about moving Vrabel inside, where I actually think he would be better at this stage of his career, and have Studebaker start on the outside. What, Vrabel isn't an upgrade from Demorrio Williams or Corey Mays, the current depth chart starters?

I'm not familiar with Studebaker so I looked him up on Sports Illustrated. It seems someone there made a terrible mistake in his scouting report for the 2008 draft. Check this out. POSITIVES: Athletic and explosive pass rusher who makes a
lot of plays up the field. Gets off the snap with a quick first step,
plays with terrific pad level and immediately changes direction or
alters his angle of attack. Effectively fights with his hands, moves
well laterally and rarely off his feet. Hustles to get involved in the
action and plays with a nasty attitude. Shows a closing burst of speed,
makes plays down the line and quickly locates the ball. Fast off the
edge and in any direction of the field.

If Studie was black, he would already be a 3-year entrenched starter. But then again, if he was black, he wouldn't have had to fight for positions and starting from Pop Warner on up. He has an amazing story.
