(11/19/09) David Haye has accomplished a lot in the past year. He has moved up a weight class to the heavyweight division. He has also angered the two most dangerous fighters on the planet, namely Vitali Klitschko and Wladimir Klitschko. This was a very foolish move on Haye’s part but he followed up his big mistake by backing out of fights with both brothers.
Haye should be applauded for making this wise decision. He then decided to go after the Russian giant Nikolai Valuev for the WBA heavyweight title. As usual Haye showed no class in press conferences before the fight and taunted Valuev constantly.
The fight between Haye and Valuev was a joke. Many people, myself included, thought Valuev won the fight as he was the busier fighter and Haye was running from him the entire fight. This is typical behavior for Haye, who is a lot of talk but little action. Before the fight Haye was saying he would knock the Russian out. Haye would have been on the canvas himself had he tried to actually fight with Nikolai. He was awarded this gift decision only because he is an “exciting” fighter in the division. Haye has one of the worst chins in the division and will soon be exposed.
After this so called “great” performance by Haye, he was called out by Tomasz Adamek. Adamek didn’t resort to attacking Haye personally but only his boxing skills. Many people are saying this would be the fight that the heavyweight division needs. Both fighters fought in lower weight classes so they are both new to the division. Tomasz Adamek has the advantage in speed, stamina, and technical skills. David Haye has a slight edge in power but that remains to be seen in the heavyweight division.
Will this fight happen? I only wish I knew but it would be huge. Haye has a big fan base in England and Adamek has a big fan base in New Jersey. Both fighters would receive a substantial payday for this fight, probably the most in their careers. The only question that remains is if David Haye has the courage to face the Polish Warrior. David’s chin would be exposed and Tomasz would likely win by KO in 9 rounds or less. Let’s just hope this fight comes through.
