Caste Football Looks at the Green Bay Packers

(10/22/04) Even in the strictly segregated NFL, the Packers stick out. All three quarterbacks are white, as are most of their starting and backup offensive linemen and of course the kickers, and with the exception of defensive end Aaron Kampman it is blacks only at every other position on offense and defense.

The great Brett Favre, one of the all-time greats is the starting quarterback. The NFL will suffer a significant loss when Brett hangs them up. Hopefully that won’t be for a few years yet, though the media has been harranging him with retirement questions since he was 30, almost as if they were urging him to get out of the game prematurely.

Favre has been so incredibly durable that, like the Colts with Peyton Manning, Green Bay keeps cost-efficient unknowns as his backups, in this case Craig Nall and J. T. O’Sullivan.

On the always good Green Bay o-line there are four white starters
